Welcome to My (Flat) World

Oh nos, I probably should've asked first before zipping through the countryside lol. I didn't know you were going to throw stuff at her XD

And sorry if I'm flinging needless stuff out there, like plot bunnies or something  I tend to do that because I mull through my characters thoughts and background (yeah, maybe a bit too much). I really don't want to push anything, but I like testing NPCs and feeling them out bc I don't know who is part of the main plot or where it's taking me. <--neurotic person, that I am.

Gosh, I'm having fun though. I love Flat Earth! *drools

I don't think that's a bad thing, JRFlynn. :D All of the characters I bring into these RPs are adapted from pre-existing works. Vincent and Diana have been running around in my head since 2009. I only have to do a bit of backstory-tweaking to fit the new RP world, but character-wise they're as close to the original as I can get them. Dunno if Diana will ever find a way to shapeshift into a wolf though -- in the RP I first made her for, she's a lycanthrope. XD

No big deal. I'm going to fast forward through time, but we can keep your fairy big so the party is better equipped for what I have in mind. I didn't plan on a giant character for this battle, but it'll be nice to have her.

Let's say Riff is using her bigness to speed up the rebuilding process, while Jei is free to move about, either to the herbalist or the weapon shop… or anywhere, really.

For the samurai skills, seitei techniques #2-10 are affordable. #11 is super-expensive.

For #2 and #5 (Ushiro and Kesagiri), I decided they should upgrade all of the seitei combos. In real life, these should be roughly the same damage as Mae. In fact, Ushiro is Mae—you just turn around first. I thought it made more sense that these techniques are more about mastery. The rest of the techniques are different enough.

I'll have to link the videos at some point, but for now you have all 12 seitei available. #1 (Mae) is what all samurai know, and #12 (Nukiuchi, which is on Shan Mai's skill list) just happens if you roll a 20 during a quickdraw.

EDIT - I'll update the image at home, but I'm going to tweak these a little.

Short version: don't learn Shohogiri; you can't afford it... yet.

For the Vs. Multiple, the techniques simply require that you're within reach of 2, 3 or 4 opponents, depending how many opponents the attack is meant for. Also, #6 (the $600 technique) strikes one opponent twice, making #6 & 7 just as damaging, which I think makes sense due to the near-identical price.

All of the techniques that say "strong attack" will still say that--it means you need to roll 16+ for that technique to happen.

In real life, #10 and #11 are very powerful, and both are 5-strike combos. I'm going to make the price reflect ($10,000) that and add a stun to #10. Even though the technique comes with one hilt-strike, I'll have that attack stun all opponents. (Both shohogiri and sogiri were my personal favorites--I loved it when I had to do #10 for an iaido promotion test. I'll have to add video links so you can see what these moves look like.)

So #11 is your boss-killer while #10 is your minion-killer.

Since I dropped my katana and clever, and someone borrowed a weapon, I thought I might need another weapon.

I know the traditional samurai set was a shorter and a longer sword, thought I would stick to tradition.

Shan Mai still has his katana and two cleavers, as far as I'm concerned. Still, if you want to spend on a better one, you can.

The samurai skills are based on iaido techniques, so it was easy to standardize a bunch of skills for the samurai. I put up the full seitei list so you can see there will eventually be super-expensive skills that you can imagine will become affordable later.

For magic, I had to ask myself what would be useful in-game. I don't know if Super Mario mushrooms are useful, and honestly, I always hated those cartoons I grew up with when the plot involved shrinking the heroes. That said, we have tiny fairies in the game so why not give them a game-breaking power?

The gold mushroom will be very unstable, so there's no guarantee Riff can roll one. My NPC was really (un)lucky just now! I have all kinds of fail-safes, like a cool down period (which is meaningful in turn-based play) and the gold mushroom dies if you fail once. You fail by casting the same mushroom twice. But no, not Pidge! 18, 14, 20, giant nudist. Nice going, Pidge. Way to make NPCs look incompetent. This affects all of us, you tutued twerp!

About the at-will thing... I want the mushrooms to work at will because (1) I'm ripping off Super Mario so they work only on good guys and (2) I cannot condone shrinking enemies. There are plenty of cheap, unfair, overpowered ways to kill monsters while they're big.

Yeah, couldn't stay on point XD

What DO herbalists do?? I should've picked beast-wrestler, or professional bait lol. I'm guessing they make healing remedies, but there's potential for weird quirky things too.

Nevermind the dancing mum, that was a mind-fart :cloud9: It could be sugarplum magic, or maybe they could be anomalies of Gardener Gardens...or, at least really nice ones with shrubberies. Who knows, flinging more bunnies :D

That's fine. Just try to avoid speaking for NPCs, especially in your current situation. (If you click the images, one hints at what Addy thinks of when Esmerelda says, 'giants.')

You're in a room with Esmeralda and Addison. I picture it looking something like the inside of a greenhouse and/or flower shop, and having the pleasant scent of a flower shop.

@Ireth,
I don't know about you, Ireth, but I'm finding the mind-reader skill to be way more fun than I expected. I didn't really think about it that much when I came up with that as the mentalist's default free skill.

@Noma,
No roll needed.

I'm having loads of fun with it, awkwardness and all. :D I just hope he isn't upstaging Diana as a protagonist (no pun intended). It's hard when one character is constantly bombarded with information from other people, and the other one is cut off from other information to a degree, due to lacking a sense. Balancing them out is tricky.

Oh! I didn't see those, Addison is cute hehe! I thought she was a villain (Doh!), that's why I was terse with her XD

And sorry I'll try not to speak for the NPCs anymore, bad habits!

The heroes thread now has everyone's special moves and spells up-to-date. I already charged players for what they clearly purchased. For Shan Mai, I wasn't sure which wakizashi he wanted, so I only charged $500 for the lessons. Though, technically, you shouldn't have the skills until after several days of practice, I don't mind this playing like a video game where buying a martial arts skill is like ordering a hamburger.

So, your skill lists are updated. Use the skills as you please. Samurai skills come with videos.

TECHNICALLY, Mae should vs 2 hits vs. an opponent in front of you, Ushiro should be 2 hits vs. an opponent behind you, and Kesagiri should be 2 hits vs. an enemy that you approach as you draw. That didn't seem like a feasible way to distinguish attacks that all do the same damage, so I made attack #2 and #5 into bonuses.

#6 requires that you are surrounded by 2-3 opponents, but I'll have it work like the real life katta which has two interpretations:
1st - you hit 2 targets, the one in front is hit on the first and third attack
2nd - you hit 3 targets, the third approaches at the first falls dead after you killed the back-stabber

The in-game way this will work is that seitei #6 is vs. two opponents by default. If both die in one hit, you hit a third. #7 hits three opponents no matter how many survive a hit.
