The thing I want to avoid is macro-gaming. I shouldn't get a chance to know what you'll (every other PC) plan to do, so I can adjust my tactic in anticipation.
Yeah. In my group we call it meta-gaming, and we generally prohibit it. If you're acting on something that you as the player know because you're sitting around the table, but that your character can't possibly know, you're using meta-game knowledge for in-game actions.
One way I avoid that with experience players who know all about stuff in the game is I change up monsters, spells, and magic items all the time. So if people try to meta-game a monster, it backfires because the monster isn't the textbook version and behaves differently
