Well, Branwen tends to panic when Alin or Baldy leaves the room, she's scared of the gate, and Baldy just stepped through it in front of her. If there's a calming song, this might be a good opportunity... assuming Cadell would sing while Baldhart's doing something foolish just to satisfy her curiosity make sure the wolf is safe.

Well, they're really more character-specific than that. They're all about his love for Liadan, and how he'll always be true to her. ^^

Lol, dw Batos is familliar enough with Baldart that 12 would work. Anyone who has not interacted with Batos much (like Mauve for example) would have to get a much higher number. Maybe 18...

And i just go whacked with a very interesting idea. If Keit does get strong enough to make herself a large animal, could she instead use that spell on Batos to turn him into, say, another elf?

I keep picturing his face if that happened and he would be more shocked than anything :D

LS- I was wondering what Bran's reaction when you walked into the gate that she fears. I assume Mauve would be her next go to person.

Watching the birdy's of the forest? Would she watch as a nature lover, preditor bird or be uncomfortable because the little birds like to chase larger preditor birds away while biting their tail feathers?

Bran sining...I don't think we'll win the fight to keep her from singing, I think the best we can do is teach her charming people should be only done in emergencies, kind of like a dog and biting.

Meanwhile, as Baldhart moves back toward the Gate with Batos, Branwen has moved to a far wall of the Gate room and is watching the proceedings wide-eyed, hunched down and biting her fingernails.
This is the only reaction while Baldy's on the other side.

(I did get info via PM, but that was about Baldy's POV when she was behind the gate. She couldn't see Branwen from there, so no other info about the harpy kid's reaction.)

She tried to have Branwen read over Mauve's shoulder to distract her. (Distract Branwen, not Mauve!) Well… of course that didn't work, but I think you're right that Branwen will turn to Mauve if Alin and Baldy are out. Mauve won her over with the toy and potty training session when Baldy and Alin were out.

@LS
I'm not sure if Mauve really won her, hehe. Though the little harpy almost trusts her, she's no match for someone like Aliron, who rolled an awesome charisma check. I wouldn't dare to roll one haha. Before turning to Mauve when Baldhart's and Aliron go away I think she's more likely to freak out.

---
Keitsumah, the difficulty of the roll isn't a arbitrary number that you decide, it's based on the attribute being a prime or not—hence the 12 or 18—and the challenge level in a relevant situation (e.g. a discussion or fight) it would be up to the GM to rule out.

I figured out that the other gate would not be anywhere that would be populated, because people would use the gate and have been more signs on our side.

@Severin, true... unless all those elderly elves forgot the words, and only one teenager in the world remembers them. Maybe even though many-thousand-year-old elves look young, they're all senile.

@Keit, to add to what Nihal pointed out, Steerpike adds difficulty and, so far, I don't think he's added more than 3. (Well, the warg I stunned* had a difficulty of 8 to stun, meaning it only worked because I rolled 20 STR.) Having said that, if you have control over Batos' behavior, then you can use the CHA check as you please. Meaning you could have Batos listen or not listen, but if the CHA check fails you can growl.

*(Read the second-last paragraph of Steerpike's post for the results of the warg-stun. I thought it was funny.)

The only exception would be if the CHA check was not just RP, like if Baldhart intimidates Batos, he has to roll a CHA check (or he doesn't if his warg half makes him immune to Intimidate -- I found out Intimidate doesn't work on wargs, on top of them being hard to stun!). If the CHA check fails (difficulty = Baldy's level = 2, so fail < 14 prime / < 20 non-prime), he's intimidated. Even then, he doesn't have to cower from her. He can bite Baldy in the ass for scaring him. He'd just have to subtract 2 from his rolls.

...not that I would pull any PvP crap on your character and/or her dog -- that's just an example.

Keitsumah

Grandmaster
Ah k. I'll have to ask Steer about that sometime.

Still -to make a point about just how protective Batos is of Keitsumah, this one isn't done yet but he ended up killing over fifty of his own kind when they all got posessed and went after her...

I will not Bow (Day 4)

Now i know the rolls are all chancy and all, but i have a feeling that if Keit is ever severely threatened Batos will be doing some major damage. :D

Batos is not that big in this game -that's him in my book. If he was the size in this game he would be a little bigger than an average wolf.

Blarg. Can't decide on a song to put in my post. ^^; One's finished but not quite fitting the scene, while the other's incomplete but more fitting. Should I post the unfinished one and say that's where Cadell lost his muse or something? XD Considering his muse is his lover, I don't imagine he'd "lose" her that easily.

EDIT: Nevermind, finished it. XDDD Guess I found my own muse.

Funny thing about playing an RPG with low stats/levels...

I always write (admittedly) overpowered protagonists, and while I try to give them flaws and limitations, the power level is more endgame. So, when I decided to play Dragon's Egg, I decided to make a fresh new character since the MCs I wrote seemed too overpowered to work with this game.

The attribute limitations force you to ask what's important for your character. So unless you WANT an idiot for a character, you can't be that perfect-in-every-way fighter type. The fun part is choosing those simple limitations and finding the result is better than what you'd come up with if there was less restriction.

I think you'll find DE's Batos is awesome because he can't easily rip apart 50 wargs, even if in your book he's awesome because he can.

Well he's not entirely overpowered. He has plenty of flaws -such as being ridiculously guilty over the fact that he never does anything to protect the human race from his own kind -and he in turn ends up thinking he is responsible for every death.

Also, he wouldn't be able to kill fifty wolves his own size if not bigger so easilly. They were all under his father's mind control, and the power he got came from two of the four "Tools" in the book. The Fang of the Moon (A sword that he wields in human form) reacts to the Eye of the Sun (a necklace that Keit wears) and creates a huge backlash of energy that eventually starts messing with his head.

Initially, he wanted to try and free the other Shifters from the possession of the Dark Spirits (they were members of a secret rebellion that he was the leader of) but the backlash of energy as mentioned above ended up making his wolf half take over in the need to protect his mate. (even though he doesn't think of Keit like that though he does have a crush on her), hence the fifty or more deaths. Now, the Tools are overpowered. It's not the characters -which makes my story all the more twisted. :p

Add that to the fact that there are still two more Tools out there to gather, and with the current repercussions... well both Batos and Keit will have a hard time controlling that power.

Here is a description of the Tools:

Eye of the Sun- nine-gemed tanzanite necklace that Keit wears. Gives her visions and helps concentrate her powers as the Starshade.

Fang of the Moon- tanzanite long sword that Batos wields. Gives him the power to protect the Starshade at any cost. Eventually becomes a source of healing.

Claw of the Earth- tanzanite dagger that Ardoway wields. Protects the holder when they are about to die by teleporting them to safety.

Voice of the Sky- tanzanite ring that Arrcafah wears. Can open rifts between Euthiria (living) and the Ether (half-life).

How much rest/peace-time did the party actually get? Did Darin get to heal again? Did Keit get some/all of her MP back? I'm assuming there was enough time for Nissa MP to replenish, Mauve's MP from the healing attempt, and... maybe time for Keit to study so she knows the new healing spell as well?

Any chance we could get a clarification?

I think I'll do some handwaving here and say the party rested up to full HP and mana (combination of rest, healing spells, or whatever). I'd like to see the party at full strength before any final assault on the lizards.

Oh! Oh! It could also be the result of everyone arguing for 8-16 hours about whether to attack immediately or rest to full strength, then Darin wakes up and says, "I feel great! Let's kick some ass!"

Or... the hand-waving. Yeah.

The party did do some resting and take time to recover. We didn't get into exact intervals, but I like to err on the side of getting the party's resources back up, particularly with what awaits them below

So, that means Mauve had enough time to learn all the new spells and Keitsumah learned the healing one?

So, is the lizard assault going to happen before or after Cadell goes through the Gaita to Aelwyd Eirian? Just wondering whether they'll get the chance to go back there and rest, or if they'll be forced to find another place to stop further ahead.

Apologies for the double post. I'm debating editing my last post in-game to move ahead with Cadell entering his homeland, and just assuming Keit taught him the words, for a couple of reasons. One, it gets things moving faster. Two, we don't actually know the words, so Keit has a whole lot of nothing to tell Cadell anyway. XD Would anybody mind if I went ahead and did that?

Also, LS, was your misspelling of Liadan into Lidia intentional? ^^;

I blame auto-correct. Or me, if that wasn't auto-corrected.

And, speaking for myself, yeah… I don't mind if you move this plot along. I'm not impatient. I want to see what Cadell's up to!
