((Some of the elven PCs may know how the Gate works, other may only know stories from days when they were in greater use. There is an incantation in elven that can be used to activate it. You can make a knowledge (INT) check if you're an elf, to see if you might know it. Many elves do. If not, maybe there is a written record around the temple somewhere. The incantation can be recited by any elf while physically touching the Gate, and the Gate will become active. The same incantation is used to deactivate the Gate.

Just so it doesn't hold up the action, I'll set the difficulty for being able to recall the incantation at 3. Thus, any elf with INT as prime needs a 15 or more to recall the incantation through memory alone. If INT is non-prime, you need a 21)).
And the smartest person in the room is...

...human.

Let's see who's lucky with the dice!

STEALTH EDIT - Baldy rolled high enough for a difficulty of 1. I wonder if she found anything...

Welp, that rules out any chance whatsoever of Cadell being able to open it. ^^; He has no INT bonus to begin with, and it isn't prime.

After what happened when Cadell tried to cast a spell with only 10% chance at success (i.e. nothing), I dunno if I want to try. XD

There's no real consequence for failing. Just have him lean against the arch and try to look cool. No one has to know Cadell's trying to activate anything.

Elven Fonz will demonstrate.

Elven Fonz: "Heyyy!"

Sir Cunningham:
"Whatcha doing, Fonz? Dreaming about a girl you've never met?"

Elven Fonz: "Heyyy! I'm not the dreamer! I'm the dreamee!"

No one suspects a thing. Heyyy!

^ Heeheehee. XD I just hope *someone* is able to open the Gate, otherwise my long-awaited plan will be for naught I'll be rather disappointed, XD.

Warning to all, my internet is spotty tonight. Firefox is being evil, so I'm putting up with IE for the moment. No Google Chrome for me. :/ Hopefully I can get a few posts in tonight. ^^

The magic of the Gate is already in place. The magic is tied to an incantation in elvish, and also to elves (who have to be the one to speak it). You're not really casting a spell per se so much as opening a bottle into which magic has already been cast. The roll was just to see if you can remember the words of the incantation, since they aren't used often these days. It's not to actually cast a spell and there is no penalty for failure. If an elf recites the correct words in elvish while touching the Gate, it will open.

So if I were to have Cadell roll to try and open the gate, what would my modifier(s) be? Cadell has no INT bonus, but he's at level 2. Is that just +2 to the roll?

Just like Elven Fonz.

I'm serious. I had him do a level 2 no-bonus roll.

Too bad INT isn't a prime, or he'd have opened the gate, then rode through the elven forest on his motorcycle. "Aaaaaay....!"

Assuming Baldy's attempt at brute force is unproductive, assume that she gives up after the second try and invites everyone in the room to examine the smoothed out area.

She figures Mauve's smarter than her, Darin has that mechanical knowledge, and everyone else is an elf, making everyone else more qualified than herself when it comes to figuring out what to do with the gate, assuming brute force ain't it.

I added 1, is +1 per level? Cause I aint's be smart enough to get me a plus fer me smarts.

I don't think I was close enough for 1 to matter anyway. I had to look back at my abilities to remember which I made prime, I knew it was the two highest rolls. (Dex and Int)
If I waited until my next kill I would be able to add 1 more. Don't remember how many more to level 3. But I think I am close.

"1D20+1 => 12 #Int and Dex are prime" +1 =13, even if I was already L3, it would only be 14.

136exp to L3

What was the formula for adding hp? 1/2 of possible total plus 1? 6/2=3+1=4

Yeah, so a d6 class gets 4 HP per level. (+ CON... but if I remember correctly, you don't have a bonus, so it's 6, 10, 14, 18...)

So close to level 3, and at level 3, that roll would've activated the gate. (At least if the +1 is an INT bonus and you forgot to add your level.)

So many failures for checks, even prime checks.
I don't think I have made a successful trap check, guaranteed no decipher script(wis), I think I did make one silent move check.
And I did climb walls.
My only redeeming attribute is my bow.
My checks:
Climb=yes(x2), Descipher script=no(x2), hide-NA, listen-no(many), move slient-yes(x1), open lock-no , pick pocket-NA, traps=no(x3)

Just a note, if I attmepted to descipher script on the gate, it would not be prime, but I guess I could try it. The other check was to see if I remembered the words, not trying to read them. (The check was prime as he said it was Int based)

One more level (4th) to get "sneak attack": improved back attack even with arrows, if unexpected attack and less then 30'. Archer Aliron at night with bow will be +9, with +4 damage. (+1 elf, +2 night deity, +3dex, +2 sneak attack, +1 level)
