*nod* Oh, she definitely would stay away from Nymphs. I would think the gods might understand about how a person views themselves compared to how the rest of the world does... but then, the Greek gods aren't always known for being nice or understanding.
Maybe if you can topple Zeus off of Mount Olympus, the new Olympians will be more understanding. Definitely nicer. Zeus is not a nice guy.

Since the question came up via PM, I'll answer it publicly.

Your heroines are women, and like real women, they can be sexually active or not, straight or lesbian or both, discreet or they kiss and tell. If your heroine has a child or lost one, this is allowed. (Though raising a child while fighting monsters seems grossly irresponsible, so you'd need a really good reason why a mother and living child are separated.)

Fairies can't have straight relationships though, since there are no male fairies. Like nymphs, they are born in an impossible way. Unlike nymphs, there are no men their size, and fairies are girls, not women, in a sense. They can't get pregnant.

Age wise, the humans should be in their 20s--enough that they've honed some skills to be competent, but they are inexperienced. Men assume most of the risks regarding monster attacks, so you can also assume you haven't had to fight to your full potential... yet.

We have at least one Amazon. If any players choose the same heroine, you can expect they'll get different gifts, so only their base abilities will make them clones. I encourage all players to choose the heroine they want. Up to you if other players' choices get you to change your mind.

I may choose an NPC guide based on which heroines are not chosen by players, but even then, I have an Amazon squad in mind.

After much deliberation, I've decided on a Huntress named Leto. (Yay for more Greek names!) She's cis-fem, asexual and homoromantic. Looking forward to playing her!

A couple names of places…

Starting village = Ogygia
Amazon capital = Themiscyra (Reaver, you can keep Amazonia or change to this—either way is fine)
A land way north where players will never end up = Bärbieria (a snowy land known for bears and beer)

@Ireth & tbgg, consider your back stories approved and awesome.

@Ireth, Lito is a woman who hunts, finds other women attractive, and doesn't have sex. Is there a better match for the Virgin Goddess of the Hunt? (If you're curious, Artemis, Aphrodite and Dionysius are the most understanding when it comes to alternate lifestyles. Artemis, Athena and Hestia are asexual. Artemis is exactly like Lito—she does enjoy her baths with virgin nymphs—whereas Athena is completely uninterested in romance, as is Hestia, though she and Athena have different reasons.)

I'm just trying to finalize appearance for Kelleia. I'm trying to give her Greek, or at least Greek-inspired clothing. Who knew that could be so difficult!

I'd suggest to not clothe her as the fastest possible solution, but then that takes away from my claim that men in Greek myths are chauvinist pigs, implying I am not.

No rush. I'm surprised we have three players just about ready to play only 24 hours after I knew this forum went live! I just jotted names down for the settings in all 13 chapters (I just had generic placeholders like "VILLAGE"), and with a couple exceptions, the names of places are related to the Olympian or mythical creature. So… research happened! (Nysa = place where nymphs live; Sardis = place where Artemis hunted down a man who pissed her off)

Special thanks to Reaver for giving me one important name of something I don't want to give away until you see it in-game.

And THAT is exactly why she's dressing! Men want her wearing as little as possible, Aphrodite wants her pure, so pretty covered, and she still doesn't know what SHE wants. So probably somewhere in between.

I'm sending out PM's called What You Start With.

An event will bring your three characters together, and you'll start in three slightly different positions. However, my kids just got home from school, so I may not get the game started until tomorrow.

@Ireth, feel free to have knives or another melee weapon in addition to what's in the PM. #2d6-1 for your melee weapon. It's the same roll for unarmed combat, honestly. But you'll inflict more damage with a knife than with your fists.

@tbgg, any preference for your weapon. It's made of wood. Staff/walking stick if you don't want to appear as a warrior, spear if you do want to look like a warrior. And if you have something else in mind, that's fine. Just tell me what and I'll work out what you start the game with.

Also, the Huntress and Nymph can survive quite comfortably in the wild. Assume they have a canteen and a pouch or purse for fresh berries and such. They can sleep under the stars if they want to. The climate is warm in this part of the world, so as long as it doesn't rain, it's a good night's sleep.

All heroines can survive in the wild. The Huntress and Nymph might actually prefer it over civilization.

I called it Amazonia to describe the entire island. I watched Wonder Woman in the 70's and read the comics, so I already knew the name of the capital.

*EDIT* Where are we posting rolls?

That's fine... though I will take some liberties with the geography. Example: Nysa is a valley in the myths, but I want a lagoon. So it's the name of the area where the game takes place.

That said, it works best if your character's not from Themiscrya, where we'll be late in the game (for reasons I won't get into).

By the way, wait for the chapter 1 thread before you roll any actions. The PM's only give you part of the story.

(Reaver, Perception is zero risk, so if you're rolling that, you can make the roll now. One roll only.)

Should I assume that only weapons that could really be wood are allowed? So club, staff, boomerang, then you said spear? Kell's still sort of figuring out who she wants to be, so she might start with a staff, try that out, and later get a spear. Would that be allowed?

Also, for things like a canteen and pouch, is there a store where we can buy said items, or can we just assume we have them?
