I LOVE the books, the films are good but I don't think Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart portray the charcters very well

MystagogueBuffy is never off topic for me!Maybe, as a leader, she had to "get over it" so to speak, because Spike was her best fighter. But then again, she didn't need to be so friendly with him did she, and she eventually said she loved him.
She was never the weak, codependent submissive woman that Bella plays, and I think that still stands as the most important distinction between them. The attempted rape might serve to illustrate that everyone is vulnerable, and show her weakness in the position she was putting herself in (with her being the only one Spike could harm physically). I've no good answer as to how their relationship after that can be justified in character.

Lore MasterI think I remember either reading about this or listening to the commentary on this. Joss stated that the attempted rape of Buffy was really just the cultivation of how obsessed Spike had become. That there was a fine line between love and obsession and Spike crossed it when he tried to rape Buffy. And furthermore, I think the creators "justified" this relationship by making Spike leave and fight for his soul. Because he felt that having a soul would make him a better "man" and it was this reason that Buffy was in love with Angel (at least that's what I think Spike thought). Where Angel always viewed his having a soul as a curse (because it was) - he also never fought to get it restored permanently which I think is why Buffy eventually said she loved Spike because he really did "give up everything" for her including his more brutal vampiric nature which you could tell he loved - not that he was any less terrifying for it, and she would stake him in a heartbeat (hell, she killed Angel), but I think it was "the grand gesture". And even though she said it, Spike still didn't believe her, because who could really forget (much less forgive him) for what he had tried to do. As he had a "poet's soul" he was a lot more - gentle (in terms of their relationship) - in the seventh season that any season previously - even in the 5th season when he was in the beginning stages of obsession with her.

MystagogueI recognize that Buffy derived from the main topic but if the conversation is going to continue, please keep it more closely intertwined with relation to or in contrast of Twilight. Otherwise, by all means, create a Buffy thread.
Thank you, ladies.
Lore MasterI know that its cool to hate Stephanie Meyers, but her Twilight books made me want to start writing. She makes me really care about her characters, and I feel like I actually know them.
Does anyone else here love Twilight? And why do people bash it?
Scribal Lordwhile Twilight is entertaining, it's not exactly well written.
Scribal LordI'm sorry, did I hear you correctly? You loved the films?
...Oh dear.![]()
