HAM2D6 Discussion

All those combo rolls paid off. You had 6 rounds to freeze 400 spiders, and you froze 406! A close call, and odds were against you (hence your chance to escape after taking out one side). The combo rolls helped. Ivy rolled a 13 (39 arrows), and there were 5 rolls of 12 (24 arrows). With 110 remaining, you just needed average rolls. Nymphs were just below average, scoring 94 hits of the 110 needed. But Ireth was above average.

Even if you had a dozen spiders webbing the nymphs, the warning shot would have been the way to take them out.

My inclination would be to choose Ice Blades, but I would assume that would only work on snow or ice. Since we don't have any snow or ice, I'm not exactly sure what I should choose. Wave Dance maybe?

I think wave is a good choice. I meant to have Sapphire cast "Starburst" which would effectively make Ascension a jet pack or Ride of the Valkyrie a rocket. But that was wen I thought you were going to escape the spiders.

With average rolls, you wouldn't have been abel to beat them all is six rounds. Warning Shot would have been the way to avoid tragedy. If you were doing the math, once you had ">100" left (it was 110, but I didn't think your characters should get an accurate count), you were right to believe you could beat them all. Below average rolls at that point would have been a little problematic, but maybe some nymphs would get bit and rescued with some wounds.

Only the first (lone!!) spider gave you trouble. That's kind of funny how you went from that to beating the odds when it really counted!

Chapter 4 will begin soon. As I said, I have guests from Hong Kong, so the hard part will be setting up Ch.4. I already know what you'll see first. I just don't want a rushed post setting the scene.

Sorry to take so long to get on this forum. Been busy, and I'll be even busier next week. Off to Canada from 8/12 to 8/17, and as Ireth knows, Canada doesn't have the internet.

Well, okay… Canada has the internet, but I likely will not while I'm there.

Ontario, not far from Toronto. We'll probably drive past Niagra Falls, and then maybe I'll jump on the CN Tower's glass floor again.

Hm... not sure what to post at this point... can Sigrlinn see Kell leading the nymph away, or what?

I reposted to (hopefully) clarify. The nymphs aren't sure if Sigrlinn knows the way, or if it's the horse that knows.

Just making them conversational since I won't get any long posts in this weekend. (Kids have a four day weekend from school.)

Hm, question... how does Sigrlinn's raven cloak bonus (+3 to Stealth rolls at night) work with the new system? I forgot to factor it into my previous Stealth rolls for this episode, but oh well.

Don't worry about it for now. I'll post the play-test update later. (Post is mostly done, but my wife wants to shop, so... time to shop!)

FYI, I the player know what's been found, but Kell doesn't know IG yet, so until Sapphire or Sigrlinn says something, all Kell can really do is keep her eyes peeled for trouble.

@tbgg, you didn't need the roll, so I worked the bad roll into my post but not punitively.

Yeah... I think rules-light is way more my style. You basically are now playing as before, but with all the numbers on the GM's end. If you liked having a combo system for critical hits, we can make that work: doubles = roll again. 2-hit combos will be rare, and 3+ hits is extremely rare... which is what I want anyway.

Yeah, I like the combo system. :)

I'm assuming that the intent of Kell's question wasn't clear. I was trying to ask Dawn if the satyrs are enemies of the nymphs, because Kell doesn't know. Though maybe the fact that Dawn placed herself between Kell and the satyrs is her answer?

Does the combo system still work if I stick to 2d6? In this case, it's simpler because doubles are the only possible result.

I'm even thinking you roll after any double in combat, hit or miss. That might be simplest, though if you roll snake eyes and then a 3, you end up missing twice. Flailing about will probably leave you open, while following snake-eyes with a hit means you hit at least once. I think that's better than you rolling double 3 and not knowing if you should roll again or not.

I was probably just having Dawn maintain silence. She's not very sociable. I'll have her answer, but how depends on your reaction to what she's doing.
