ooh, I think I edited that bit out... you said not to move, after all! I'll go add it back in. ^^;

There are some other things that I want Reaver to do but I'm going to wait until the rest of the party posts before I post again.

Once the party posts (deadline = 12/12 afternoon), Reaver will have something to do*. Note the ship hasn't fired a second shot yet, and note that Shan Mai was watching the ship and saw something that will prove helpful when the next shot is fired.

I plan to have battle with RP mixed in, and you're also about to find out why pirates are considered both melee and ranged…

Remember in turn-based RP you can:
-MOVE (normally 6 squares)
-ROLL (usually to attack/cast/perform a feat/etc.)
-TALK (Reaver's last post is a good example of how much to say in a turn, but no big deal if you say more than one could in five or six seconds)

For magic, you can't make a full 6-square move when casting, and you must remain still when charging magic. Basically, just let me know where you want to be, and I'll move you as close as possible.

*If you mean you want Reaver to do more in this turn, that's fine. He hasn't used his full movement yet.

Safe and sound in Tennessee! Wifi's pretty spotty though (and by that I mean it cuts out basically every couple of minutes), so posting might be difficult.

Yea, I had a house with that problem many years ago in Amityville, it was a horror.

Not often a post actually makes me lol.

Question: can everyone see all of the images? From my computer at work, there are no images in my last post. I'm not sure if it's because DA is a blocked site, or because I tagged the images for violence/gore.

(I have little kids, so I try to be serious about the tags, even though I don't draw anything I consider offensive.)

If anyone's having an issue with images, I'll stop tagging them and leave the images in storage instead.

On the topic of gore, I didn't plan the deaths to be bloody. In the test, I did have a decapitatable boss, but Phil took him out in a less messy, much cooler fashion. That's what happens when you give a real-life former pro-wrestler an in-game wrestling skill.

When I drew the badly-drawn innocents, I figured either the bomb gets them or they likely live. I drew several heads and limbs and hoped the random victim wouldn't make the game sad. I laughed when I saw who the random victim was and almost wished there was a warning of some kind so he'd try to get away, his shoelaces tripping him before he can. I didn't, thinking it's too contrived and without showing the roll, I wasn't sure if you guys would believe the victim was really random.

I also laughed at PJ's "some cultures" explanation and his reason to stay put.

ANOTHER QUESTION: Do you guys prefer to roll for your sidekicks or would you rather I roll for them?

EDIT - The more I think about it, Reaver has it right. It makes more sense to tell your sidekick who to attack, to back off, etc., but leave the die roll to me. Mostly, I think that makes sense because I know the sidekick's moves and you don't.

Sorry to suddenly reconsider how SIDEKICK MODE works. I just thought of it yesterday—it wasn't something we had in the play-test. But I still think it can work no matter whether I roll for them or players do. It's intended as an RP thing, rather than being a slight mathematical advantage in die-rolling.

I wouldn't mind rolling for mine, but then again they are NPC's. But then again, if with this whole old school side-scrolling video game vibe, we're controlling our sidekicks just like in the games that had sidekicks.

(EDIT) Disregard. The point you made via PM is valid and smart. We have no idea what their capabilities are. And I quote: "he does something to that frog—something that hurts?"

LOL! This is the truth!

Okay… I'll edit my SIDEKICK MODE thread to reflect that.

Yeah, I thought that was the reason you didn't roll for Ender—not knowing what he does. It doesn't help that I drew him passive-looking, always with his hands in his pockets. Maybe he was making an Ale Slushie and his hands are cold.

So… ONE ROLL PER TURN, everybody! Never mind that sidekick roll idea! What sidekick roll idea? Is a sidekick roll like a hero sandwich? What the hell am I talking about?

Short Version: Diana, Sister Annie, Mr. Ender and Father Warbucks would miss with a 7, but Shan Mai might hit with that roll.

EDIT - It occured to me that Shan Mai attacked the frog with the shield, so no... the 7 is blocked. Sorry!

Partial Explanation: If you check out the Class Acts thread, you'll note that the samurai, lightweight brawler and huntress are all offensive melee/unarmed/ranged. The pirate also gets both an offense and a defense bonus when at sea (but neither when on land).

What that means is poor Diana needs to roll a higher number to hit targets than everyone else in the party! (Everyone else picked a class with an offense bonus.) This is a different system than D&D where you add a bonus to your roll. Instead, the enemy has two targets: one for those with offense bonuses, and one for those without. Likewise, when enemies attack, Diana might block attacks that would hit anyone else.

Reassuring Words: In the play test, my rolls for the enemy really sucked. Even when rolling for 9 enemies, only 1-3 would hit. Phil and Reaver never actually saw three enemies hit because the only time I rolled that many successful enemy hits, two of the enemies I rolled for were dead. (I rolled for everyone on the map, then checked to see who lived/died.)

A Comment: I love the lines of dialogue that accompany the attacks!

I'll give Phil time to catch up, but for now let me just say I appreciate that players are keeping the game moving. I already have maps and rolls ready for the next turn. If I failed to anticipate PJ's position, I'll adjust accordingly.

I am having fun with the map updates! Every turn so far, I've had more to do than just move the characters! (Moving the characters is all I really ever plan to do, but your posts inspire me to do more.)

I'm pretty happy with what I did with the health display. (I have the GM post ready to go—just waiting for Phil, then I edit in his attack, kill his opponent if he hits hard enough, then post!) It was getting messy with so many sidekicks, so I found out we can make tables when we post! Heroes on the left, sidekicks on the right.

If I don't post for a day or so, just put me on "auto-pilot" meaning I'll just attack whoever is nearest to me. I'm not going to be able to post as fast as everyone else on a consistent basis.

@Ireth,

I goofed! I don't know what I was looking at, but I had different numbers for Diana and Vincent. So Vincent should have cast Fire Flower (16) and Diana's weak attack (8) should not have hit her foe hard enough to kill him.

Well, Fire Flower would have hit that NPC in the gold boots, and it wouldn't have saved the champ from getting hit really hard. Since my error works in your favor, how about we just leave it as is?

Works for me! I did wonder how an 8 was successful, but if you say it is, I'm not gonna argue. :D

About what I said in my PM(s), Vincent apparently has other plans for the moment, so I might have to try that move later. He doesn't seem interested in attacking for the moment.
