Ysgard RP Discussion Thread

In Loke's current state I doubt he'd win a fistfight with a goldfish let alone a beard dual with Farrun. He can't even muster the energy to be properly suspicious of the mysterious new arrival from a foreign land who just happens to have fallen into the group's orbit and will likely end up joining them.

When you think about it most roleplaying characters seem really suspicious when you don't know they're friendly.

Yes! I'm sorry, I've been wrestling with my personal writing lately, but if you guys want to get going again, I'll make Ysgard my next priority.

This rp has been prone to hiatuses-- I'm not the best GM out there, and er, maybe it's best to know that going in. But I don't want to let these breaks go on too long. I'm going out tonight and might not be able to get anything up, but I'll aim for Friday--fair warning.

I blame the above post for the fact that Loke was in my dream last night. He was in a G-rated movie that involved generic villains trying to kidnap a monkey. He came up with a plan to trap the villains, and laughed very loudly. The plan was never shared with the audience, so I don't know if he was ripping arms off or doing something more appropriate for a G-rated movie.

I think the real Loke would have let the monkey be kidnapped or just shut it up with his axe. It was an obnoxious monkey. The real Loke definitely wouldn't've let a make-up artist slap orange make-up on his head to cover the dragon tattoo. I didn't see how that went; just the result: the Loke in my dream was bald, and armored. And big. Big and loud.

Yeesh, so much for my aim. I'm not sure this is the best time to start up again, considering that in a few days NaNo will be starting up and I'm planning on doing it, as are Tom and Gryphos, at least...? You know what would have been good...October, October would have been good. I'll spare you the self-recriminations, but I am sorry for the lull, and I didn't really intend it. I've been flattened by writer's block, just a lot of mental blocks in general...thought I had it budged a couple weeks ago, but nope. Well, I'm crawling out from under it, just watch me.

My plan here is to address the immediate situation, which is Chrisania joining the party. Maybe that happens here, maybe she catches up with them on the road--depends on how it works out. I think some good old party discussion is in order. Beyond that, I think we could use another short, slightly fluffy scene, for which I had a few ideas:

- Exploring roadside ruins
- Addison gains a furry companion--injured wildlife, maybe?
- Brigands charging a bridge-toll

If you guys have other ideas, particularly character-driven ones, I'd like to hear them. I'm not sure how much we'd be able to sustain during November, but I'd like to have something going, especially if my NaNo productivity tanks in the way I'm anticipating it will... But once we've wrapped up a little more travelling and Chris has been ensconced in the party, the next big scene is their first Yvalhyn attack, which will be followed by a fairly large timeskip. Definitely want to ramp up to that a bit, though.

Questions, ideas, objections?

I am game for anything. I am fine with appearing when you guys are in trouble, or you guys appearing when I am in trouble or whatever else works. I imagine meeting up again when there is trouble is probably the quickest/easiest way to get into the group unless you have a particular desire for a drawn out interview process.

I'll take a furry companion if it comes. Same as Akamaru... feel free to surprise me. I'll try to post tomorrow since I'm doing a b-day card for my now-6-year-old... and that's after doing a ton of art for my Friday update (which is complete... unless I edit).

Alright, I've got the scenario in mind. What I'm thinking here is that we'll have a low-action group (sitting around the campfire) and a high-action group (hunting party that runs into a scrape), to accommodate any NaNo'ers. For the hunting party, I'm imagining that Addy and Rikhard have gone off a little ways to look for game. They're in a fairly civilized patch, so no one's expecting much danger. When, of course, they run into it, it might be a good place for a stealthy Chris to help them out.

Back at camp, Farrun and Einan are having a magic lesson of some sort. Bendalitz, Troia and Loke will be at camp as well. ( Loke is also welcome to join the hunting party, but we may have to come up with a plan to incapacitate him, as I don't want to have to scale up the danger too much xD). When it's nearing dusk and the others aren't back, somebody'll go look for them, but I imagine they can rescue themselves.

Does this sound okay to everyone? Tell me if you want to switch groups based on your capacity for November. I will be GMing the hunting party's encounter, but I hope that slowing my posts with Farrun will make it easier to play during NaNo.

Um, so clearly I was either too optimistic about what I'd be able to do during November, or too pessimistic about how long I'd keep up NaNo. Maybe both.

Which seems to be the latest in a long line of failures to GM this rp well or consistently for any length of time. I keep coming back to this story in my mind, so the desire is still there, but I think it's completely unfair to expect all of you to follow my whims instead of a reasonable schedule.

Honestly, do you want to continue? We could give it another go after Thanksgiving, with a more serious plot point, but I would entirely understand if you guys would like to shelve this permanently.

As long as it updates, I'll stick it out.

Right now, Steerpike's been updating 1-3 times a week whereas Dragon's Egg used to be updated daily, sometimes with multiple GM posts per day. I don't know about other players, but for me the less frequent posting is still fun as it's more compatible with my life.

Same would be true here if you made Winds a "seasonal" RP, where you keep updates going for a month or two, then when we finish a scene the game takes a short vacation. I'm only speaking for myself, but I would still play the game like that.

Okay, um, it's good to hear that you two are still on board. After Thanksgiving when everyone has some time, we'll try again in good faith, yeah? I'll work on what I'm bringing to the table.
