Loke's final comment isn't actually directed at Addison, or even Snorri. He's speaking to Vyrhel, or his idea of her, at least.

If Farrun knew what she was doing, he'd probably shout at her! He'll be having a talk with her on the morrow, at any rate

I liked Loke seeing (and splashing) the fox, and since Addy doesn't have full control over her druidry, I figured she linked with the wrong animal.

Gah, sorry I haven't been posting! A thunderstorm knocked out my power early this week, and my internet's been off and on for the last few days. I'll see if Troia or Einan can add anything worthwhile to the campfire socialization...

He'll likely figure it out, as there's a side effect when linking with beasts (for the untrained). Addison will take on the behavior of the animal. The gytrash died feeling fear and pain, which is why Addy freaked out. The fox is curious, so Addison will interrupt like an uninhibited child and ask if she thinks someone might have an answer. No one has an answer to fire, so she just stares at it.

He's probably better off having that talk "on the morrow," given her current state of mind. Asking Addison not to push herself might be like asking one of those stupid little dogs not to jump around and yip like tiny idiots.

Oh boy, now's the part where we get to see Einan's fearsome scars and hear about his Dark and Tortured Past. (TM)

What strikes me as a bit funny is that, in my recent drawings, I've depicted Addy's old boss with multiple scars on his face and torso. Still, in her current state of mind, yeah, she'd gawk at Einan. (Though her eyes are fixed on Farrun by the end of the post.)

Erm, so I never really thought of the gytrashes as very sapient. They don't create or orchestrate what people see, it's more like they have natural hallucinogenic magic. And they don't become people or speak through the vision--they don't speak at all, they don't have that level of intelligence. I thought you were just being especially meta with Bendalitz's imagination, there?

Naturally, Bendalitz is free to speculate, but I think the root explanation needs to come from his brain, not from the gytrash.

Naturally. Bendalitz will try to reach for convoluted explanations and possibilities in everything. That's one of his main habits. The idea of having gyrates on his side is attractive, even if it's a pointless and unfounded belief that it's possible.

Ah, good! So my first assumption was correct--Bendalitz's brain is meta as f*ck

I don't actually intend to have Addison link with an animal in heat. It's much more interesting to have her confront a problem that she didn't anticipate.

(I'd also like to think that if she links regularly, the side effect will eventually become less severe, or at least she'll recognize the fact that she's taken on some of the animal's personality and can control herself to an extent.)

Thanks for letting me know, LS.

Well, it's as good a time as any to discuss where we're going. I was really going to have a new post up this weekend, but I ended up spending it socializing/helping people move/being hungover instead...

I hope it hasn't been too inconvenient of a break--I know Tom and Thaane have been writing stuff for the Cliche challenge and LS has been comicking furiously. For my part, I got really into my WIP recently and then just...hit a wall of not being able to write anything at all. Been reading a lot, though.

I think part of the problem for Ysgard is that I'm not 100% certain where the story should go next. What I had planned was a timeskip and then their first encounter with rogue Yvalhyn, but after the action we just had, I wonder if it would be better to have some recreational time. I was thinking a shorter timeskip and then they run into a spring festival in a town along the way, get them drunk, y'know. Would you guys be able to find stuff for your characters to do in a festive atmosphere? As a reminder, I totally welcome character influences on the plot/subplots, so if you have any ideas, festival or otherwise, let me know.

I'm planning on getting a post up that will just put them at dinner around the campfire, but we won't timeskip or move ahead without LS.

Ooh, a festival sounds fun. I highly doubt Rikhard will voluntarily get drunk, but even so. ^^

The break's been surprisingly well-timed for me. I've gone from two weeks of heavy family commitments to an uncommonly nasty common cold. I've been so out of it I've spent my spare time playing Age of Kings. It's been like reliving the sick days of my childhood.

I'm sure I can keep Loke occupied during a festival, especially with alcohol flowing freely.
