I'm back from my weekend away, so I think I can catch up tonight. If not, I'll be on tomorrow late afternoon or evening (the latter is more likely).

Don't ever apologize for taking care of your family. We can wait. It's good to know you have your priorities straight, Steerpike. Family first, work, then play. With your schedule, I'm surprised you can find the time!

Well said. ^^

Everyone was surprised by the mounts when they decided to kick some asses. I think Baldhart is expressing her envy of them in a quite eccentric way. ;x

Know what's really bizarre? Checking this thread before checking the action one, and seeing statements like that… when last you looked, the party was about to turn a corner in a subterranean passage. :p

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my torch. I really need both hands. Will we still be able to see if I put it out? Should I set it down? What?

Burnbright has a torch. You'll have less light with just one, but you'll be able to see in the area around where she's standing. But at least for the moment the torches are the only source of light in the area.

Worst case: if Cadell feels genuinely unfit for combat with his off-hand, he can become a torch-bearer. Not sure he'd care for that, but it's a possibility. And a torch is not a bad thing to have in one's hand as a weapon: it isn't going to do much damage (possibly, none)… but very few beings are fond of having fire thrust at them or swung in their faces. Highly intelligent beings might realize there's next to no chance of getting burned… but this is one of those situations where instinct is going to trump reason for most targets. Unarmored targets in particular will probably react poorly to such situations, since they have considerably greater vulnerable surface area; someone in full plate is unlikely to be impressed.

In fact, it's entirely possible that Cadell could have a greater effect on combat swinging a torch than he could swinging a weapon—see my comments on "aiding allies" in my (lengthy) post in "Combat Questions." He wouldn't have to "hit" with the torch, just convince the opponent that he could.

Of course, if he's trying to coordinate with his allies, they're going to have to be prepared for it, so that they aren't flinching away from the fire as well.… Meh. Details.

•

While this is something which hasn't been introduced—and probably won't be—there is one caveat which might be noted here: the effectiveness can depend on how the torch is constructed. Some styles would have a chance of being extinguished if waved around too much or too violently. Since this hasn't been specified, my inclination would be to say this isn't a problem… but that's a GM decision. Might make it a small percentage each swing, and just say a torch is a torch, however constructed.

•••

Okay, that's not quite the "worst" case. Worst case would be redesigning your helmet so that it has a socket on the back for you to stick the torch in. The reason this is "worst" is that, in the present situation, you can't do that—and tucking the end of the torch into your armor behind your head is something I'd regard as highly counterrecommended. :p

It would be awesome if some elf relied - clearly - to the humans what they're hearing/seeing. Mauve is almost crapping her pants right now. :<

And slowpoke observation for I only thought this now.
She doesn't even give me a chance to respond. She climbs right back up the rope as if to make a point. Honestly, I'd climb back up there and slap her across the face if I didn't think it was all so gods-damned attractive. No matter.
Wait, did I slipped on my English or I got right? Do Sparkie knows that Mauve has a scarred face? The pious elf would still find her attractive?

*evil grin*

Let me make clear that this post is OUT OF CHARACTER.

Yes, Rydh knows that Mauve is scarred. He likes it. He is, after all, a cleric to the Elven God of Combat. Mauve's scar is like a beauty mark to Rydh, because it shows that she's seen combat. And, because of his experience with his former magic tutor, he doesn't mind Corruption marks.

As if that weren't enough, Rydh also has a bizzare attraction to females who aren't afraid to confront him. That doesn't mean that he likes to argue, but he does like it when a woman gets in his face.

Yea, Rydh's pretty much doomed here. :D

To avoid spoiling any kind of future RP, I have only one thing to say: Hah!

Is that two succesful spells in a row? It seems your luck is turning around Nihal.
((Steerpike, Matthew is going to follow Rydh's orders for this move))

((Maybe as a time-saver, since we all seem to be following orders so far, Steerpike can assume we move in formation unless we post otherwise. Of course, when Ankari joins, he'll have to post his willingness to go along with Rydh's leadership.))

Nissa, why did I use double parentheses here?

Why are you asking me?

If I got my math right I should have something around 45% chance of succeeding. 7 failed spells.. I should get 6 successful spells now. Right? Right?! D:

P.s.: I have the strange feeling that Rydh is only being successful in throwing his orders around because Ankari isn't with us right now. xD
