Hey guys. Snowing here and internet is out at hotel as it has been most of the day, so I'm stuck on my phone. If it comes back on I will post the update tonight, otherwise it will be tomorrow.

I added a damage roll to Liadan's attack, just in case that 9 actually did something. It'd be a shame to waste a perfect damage roll if she missed, though. ._.

According to Steer, an attack roll of 9 is a miss, and my awesome damage roll is a waste. Oh well. Better luck next round, I hope!

Questions

To the right of Bressel, Baldhart and the demon fish they're engaging is a building, perched on the cliff. I estimate a distance of 2.5 feet or so to the edge, but I need a confirmation: Is there enough room to run past them and behind this building?

I believe that square is 5 feet. At the expense of taking any other action a running human should be able to cover up to 24 squares (120 feet) in a turn, right?

((New Map. Update shortly - going to be stuck on a conference call for a little while))

@Keit, I like the narrative for the tangle spell!

It probably leaves enemies with -4 AC… so hopefully we just don't roll SO low that we still manage to miss while they're easy targets!

I THINK Gisla's saved if she can't be hit due to entangle. She can't be any lower than -7 HP on this turn (if she was at 1 HP when dropped).

Just a reminder - casting a spell requires a check.

@SomethingToPonder - Aldar was on the cliffs, just near where the stairs used to go down. If you want, you can assume he is still there and has either been lost in thought or shocked by the events taking place, or something else entirely (use whatever you like to explain what he's been thinking while all this is happening).

@SP, I thought that life magic did not require a check. (I think we had this discussion before, and you mentioned that you normally require a check, but for this campaign you made the exception for life magic.)

Ah. You may be right. My notes are at home, along with the rule modifications :) For some reason, I was thinking check, but not runaway magic or corruption. I've run this particular set of rules so many different ways...now that you mention it, I recall that discussion. I usually flip through my notebook to check on rules changes.

I remember that being the reason for the confusion.

The no-check thing is clarified in the Magic thread:

How Spells are Cast

Spells that draw on Elven life-energy (such as healing spells) are cast as normal. There is no check needed to ensure that the spell is cast successfully, so long as the spell belongs to the spell list of the class of player attempting to cast it. Casters casting life-energy spells not on their spell lists must make a check, at a penalty (as must all casters attempting spells not on their class lists). There is no penalty for failure other than the lost Mana. Non-caster classes may not attempt to use Elven life-energy.
I think the one amendment that was made (but is not reflected here) is that you allowed non-caster elves to use elven life energy.

The only reason I was so sure about this is that one of many gnoll-killing plans that won't happen (whistles innocently) involved Keit's entangle spell. I remember liking that plan because you could expect the spell to actually work, as opposed to having a 40% chance of failure--failure meaning that army you thought would get stuck in a tree now has you surrounded.

Yep. That's exactly right. I should have checked my own language :)

I ran a session in a Google hangout not long ago, and we used the more hardcore rules. We also had a massive damage rule and some interesting crit rules. It made for a bloody game, though out of 4 PCs one did manage to survive (minus a foot). Sorry for the confusion.

hmm... a successful spell that imobilizes enemies for a bit and only requires that Keit be near plants...

i should use that spell more often

I've got no answers, so I'll go ahead and post assuming it's "yes" for both while my internet lasts. I've been experiencing problems with US and EU servers and the new prediction from my ISP is 48h.

If I don't manage to post, assume that Mauve only moved this turn.

Thanks Sp i'll try to come up with a good story. Is there anything I should know when coming up with the story? e.g. turns of movement to reach the party or anything that could be handy? :)

At full speed you can reach the bulk of the party (by the tree) in a single round. You'd have to wait until the following round to attack or act in some other way once you got there.
