I think it would have to be either-or, and XP goes to one character at a time or maybe is split between your characters if you can have two at once. Well... there'd need to be an incentive to not have several pairs of characters.

Not that I'm discouraging or encouraging anything. Just speculating.

I kinda like the idea of splitting XP between two characters, if that's even allowed. But that's up to Steerpike. :)

XP gets split between all party members, generally. So if there are 10 people in a party, it gets split 10 ways, etc.

@Steerpike: PM in to you.

If you can't wrap your mind around character option #2, I'll just go with #1. No sweat.

Both already have well-established personalities. Either would be an interesting addition. And perhaps best of all, either would be able to mesh without undue difficulty (i.e. being distrusted by everyone else in the room instantly and for the foreseeable future).

Like Mauve.

*ahem* We will miss Hiljikki and her berries! I hope she returns, we didn't saw her whole potential yet.

I think it would be wise to leave Burnbright with her.

As do I, though it's Burnbright you're gonna have to convince. There's no way on earth Hiljikki could restrain Burnbright physically if she decided to take off on her own.

I have the impression this replacement will be an interesting character, I'm curious now.

Oh, I think I can guarantee "interesting." One way or another. :D

What would be fascinating would be to see a vote on which of the two gets used. But then you'd have to know about both of them, so that probably won't happen. Maybe after one of them gets introduced, I'll share the information on the other.…

That reminds me: she'll send whatever berries she has left along with the party. They're good for the rest of the day, but only that long, so use them first, before Rydh's spells, if you have the chance to do so between combats.

Hehe, this interesting sounds almost... ominous!

It's kind of her. I don't know if Ankari still looked worn out or just down when he arrived, but the misunderstood ranger received more long-term injuries than Mauve. Hm... how many berries does Hiljikki still have?

She put two on Mauve's toast, so that would leave 14 at the moment… unless Mauve needed any more. Not sure how much she was down. She's actually regained enough mana she could go out and fetch a few more, so she probably will. She'll see that Ankari is brought up to full; given that there's been some time passing, it would be better for Rydh to cover him so that he can regain that mana and save the berries for your first fight.

Thinking better, neither do I. It's a little hard to believe Ankari knew the necessary technique to make someone black out without injuring the person - it rings as martial art, monk's domain -, specially with the kind of grasp he was using - it would press the windpipe - and enraged as he was. He never rolled the damage. Now so many things already happened we should assume it was low.

Probably. Don't see why it would have left her at 0 HP: he wasn't actually "dealing damage" per se.

Oh, just remembered: s'pose I might as well indulge in some shameless promotion here, and mention that the subforum for my spin-off game is now up (at the top of this forum), in case anyone didn't notice. At the moment, it might be a bit inconvenient to use, since I haven't duplicated a lot of the game-system content from this one, so creating characters might require some flipping back and forth until I do. (And if: not that I want to inconvenience people, but I do want to retain strong links between the two games. Sure I could find better ways to accomplish that in the long run.)

Those who have questions should ask them over there, or in PM, so that it doesn't clutter things up here. Which also means I don't intend to talk about it here any more if I can avoid it. I suspect Steerpike would appreciate that.… ;)

So just curious, how long did we rest? Because I imagine all my hit points may have come back by now if we rested a long time. I lost 5, so I'm down to 5. I didn't claim any of the berries when they were being given out, so just wondering if I'm going wounded into the fray here.

I think Ravana made a blanket "everyone eats" post, so you can always assume you ate 1. With 8 in CON, you'd regenerate 1 HP in your sleep. So you'd have 2 HP back, but... if you have an 8 in CON, your starting HP is 9, not 10.

Well, if it's not safe for her to travel, Baldhart won't want her to go out there. And since the girl apparently will listen to Baldhart, not a vote, someone needs to clarify in-game that travel is suicide.

Aliron said that Hiljikki or Ankari should determine that. Baldhart knows a lot about survival in the wilderness, but she also knows that she (as a barbarian) can outlast a normal person in a harsh environment. Right now, Darin's words are enough to have her agree to send Burnbright home, though she'd prefer to keep her close.

Funny... a lot of mind-changing here. I thought Mauve wanted to keep her away! Or maybe she meant upstairs in the temple, but no way would Baldhart back that up (which is the opinion that matters most to Burnbright). As a player, I think nothing will happen upstairs. Well... more specifically, as a player, I think there's a chance something WILL happen upstairs if there's someone there, but if we all go underground, nothing. Or evidence of something as the GM's way of saying, yup, leaving Burnbright behind and idle would have been a bad move.

In-character, there's no reason to think that Burnbright plus one adult is safe, unless they ride the same horse together and gallop to safety if chased. The dwarves managed to keep pace ahead of wargs, so on horseback with no walkers to slow an escape, there's less worry about heading to town. If anything, one of the horses might not make it. No offense to the knights, but Baldhart would see a horse's life as a small price to pay if its sacrifice allows Burnbright to get back safely. She also trusts that Hrolf and the other strongmen at the Crow would suffice as bodygaurds for a night. If Baldhart's dead, a trip south is Burnbright's best hope, hence the large sum of $$$.

Mauve never changed her mind. She believes:

1. Safest: Drimmen-Delve, even if they take ages journeying at the edge of the Taint. She's, obviously, against taking a shortcut like the dwarves did.

2. Not really safe: Wilderness with Hiljikki. Still better than below.

3. Even less safe: Staying in the temple. Wargs, goblins, etc.

4. Almost the worst: Sending her back to Srilkind. Mauve has no reason to believe they wouldn't hand the girl over to Aslaug's minions if pressed, this if they don't burn the girl first. They did this before to her grandmother. At this point you might have noticed that Mauve just doesn't trust any superstitious witch-hunter (and with a good reason uh?).

5. By a thin line worse than the above: Taking her down to the tunnels. The con is doing exactly what the trogs wanted, the pro is keeping the girl surrounded by people who wouldn't, in theory, harm her. She believes Aslaug don't want to kill the girl, so the above option, in certain way, is more life-threatening than this one. What is slowly changing in Mauve is her view of the corruption. ;3

What reason would the town have for burning Burnbright (Aside from her name)? They have no reason at all to think she's a witch. And while Mauve doesn't, the rest of the party has plenty of reason to believe they wouldn't let Aslaugs minions have Burnbright if pressed. So to me, it seems among to better options.

Well... she's far from happy. It's a matter of choosing between a bunch of terrible options. D:

Even if she takes risks sometimes (like when she fought Ankari — and the strategy she chose), she's not willing to risk the girl, wishing that they try options higher in the list before the last two.

@Phietadix The girl has some magic in her. She's the daughter of a priestess who had magic in her — and who is was involved in the temples massacres and seems to be behind the Taint — and granddaughter of a woman who was killed by these same people, taken for a witch. It only takes an information leak.
