A child at risk? Who does he think I was keeping back, to prevent her killing herself?

((Took ya long enough to bring that up—was beginning to wonder if you were ever going to. But Hiljikki wasn't there, so she didn't know that was what went down. Nor heard when you were given the order to protect the girl.… ;) ))

"Matthew, stay with Burnbright," I say, and I move up to our flimsy barricade.

After looking back over Ankari's post in the main thread I must say again. Matthew doesn't own a sword.

Maybe he was being metaphorical…? :D

I've read these posts several times in main thread and I'm still not sure what is going on. Can someone give me the Cliff Notes version of what the argument about Burnbright is? Maybe I missed something when I was gone for a bit.

So, I'm a bit confused with regards to when Ankari's spiel takes place. Cadell should be nowhere near close enough to even be involved with him at the moment; he's out in the fields with Hiljikki.

Yeah. People should wrap up the individual RPs today. This evening, I'm going to post in the game thread, moving things forward to a common timeline the morning after the battle with the lizards, with everyone who is staying back in the temple after a night of rest. Between now and then people should have plenty of time to wrap up what they're trying to do with the current RP conversations.

That's why I was trying to establish a timeline. =P

Probably it happens after you both come back. After Burnbright's lessons and Rydh's return from the cellar, while Baldhart and Matthew are finishing their argument.

P.s.: I'm waiting for Ankari nock his arrow - I hope it doesn't end on her back hahaha. I still got something interesting and possibly dumb to do.

Well, that would make sense... But I thought Baldhart and Matthew finished arguing when Cadell was still heading out to the fields with Hiljikki, or just in them already. Oh well.

I now realize that in Matthew's inner thougts I responded to some of what Ankari (Character) said about Cadell, thinking he was still talking about Matthew.

I think Mauve just made a nice "BUMP!" on someone's armor. Rolz betrays me when it comes to DEX/STR rolls!

This is where you made your mistake. You should have tried casting a spell while you hugged him. Blow him up with the runaway. I mean, if it's gonna happen anyway, might as well develop it into a tactic.… :p

Which argument are you referring to?

…which I suspect is your problem. There are several. In fact, there seem to be almost as many as there are characters, possibly more.

Cliff notes on the ones which seem most important/prominent:

(1) Should Burnbright be considered a follower of Brynhild, or should that be an open verdict?
(2) What should Burnbright be trained to do?
(3) Should Burnbright have any exposure to magical training at all?
(4) Should Burnbright have any exposure to magic at all?
(5) Should Burnbright remain with the party if it goes back into the tunnels?
(6) If not, what do we do with her?
(7) Should Burnbright be told about her mother's past, and if so how much?
(8) How do you solve a problem like Maria?
(9) What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
(10) Did you expect the Spanish Inquisition?*
(11) Is Hiljikki right, and if so to what extent?

I may have missed a couple. I think the main deal is that everybody seems to want to "train" Burnbright in his or her own specialty. Which is fine, to the extent that any potential adventurer ought to be exposed to as much as possible: even if you aren't going to do it yourself, you'll want to know how it works when someone is trying it against you, or when you need to request assistance from your companions. It's less fine when eight people try to reveal all the secrets of their trades in the course of 48 hours.

The main griping right now seems to be between Baldhart, who is convinced the girl wants to be a follower of Brynhild and ought to be treated as if the matter were settled, and Sir Matthew, who is convinced that permanent religious commitments should not be the result of uninformed decisions made on the spur of the moment by impressionable twelve-year-olds.

Hiljikki would have her own take on the matter, but she's largely avoided the discussion (or in any case has been elsewhere while it took place). Also, there are some things she may not be aware of, but which the player is. I'm trying to keep those out of what she thinks/does until she's explicitly informed of them.

*You ought to have expected the Spanish Inquisition. You're expecting her to be burned at the stake, after all. But since nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.…

Hell, I'd go for it!

Nice Monty Python references.

A couple of thoughts, neither of which is meant to imply you guys have to play any certain way, I just want to make sure everyone feels things are fair later :)

1) things are going to become increasingly difficult in terms of the party's ability to succeed without cooperation amongst the group members; and

2) since the underlying story here is a sort of traditional good v. evil epic, evil characters will find they have additional challenged as the game progresses. The alignment you have written on your character sheet is not dispositive. Your true alignment is based on how the character is played.

Funny, those are almost exactly the warnings I was going to give for the setup of my own game.…* ;)

[Which, by the by, is—I think—ready to get posted. I'm making what I hope to be a final pass through the startup info right now. I'll be asking BD to create a subforum for it, so it will on the one hand be visible here and be clearly a sub-setting of Dragon's Egg, but on the other will not clutter up the current game with its own threads. Please be aware that in no way do I want it to "compete" with Steerpike's game: I'm hoping to see you all there, of course, but not at the expense of your participation here. My hope is that no one will feel the need to make a choice, and can play both.]

* Apart from using the word "dispositive," at least. Not that I don't think it's great—and exactly expresses what's intended; I just doubt it would have occurred to me. Bonus XP for the lawyer.

I consider this RPG as a tool to enhance my skill at character development. I also happen to enjoy our little game. Keep it simple. Write great characters and stick to them. Remember, at the end of the day, it's only a game.
Agree 100%^

Regarding the argument between characters, I enjoyed the exchange until the out-of-character comments became part of it.

I don't want hard feelings—that kills the fun, for starters—and I want to clarify that when I play up Baldhart's nightmares or her growing bond with Burnbright, those are RP opportunities I jumped at when Steerpike presented them to my character (both in Act I). I play some of this by PM for the reason I told Steerpike: I don't want my character's personal side-plots to monopolize the game. Mostly, I post what other characters might see or what I hope is interesting to write/read.

I don't RP them to rub in the fact that my character has special side-plots, and in fact, I hope that others besides Baldhart and Cadell will have developing side-plots as the game progresses. These things happen when you either find the right (or wrong?) item or build a relationship with an NPC.

EDIT - By the way… Happy Easter! Happy Game of Thrones Season 3!

(Everyone here celebrates at least one^…?)

1. Yeah, we only need to look at the last fight, we fell like ducks for their plan. Luckily the GM is kind enough and no one died. =P

2. The beginning was a little fuzzy, but now the characters know each other - and are already clashing - we're going to get the chance to truly act out our alignments. Well, I'm expecting some alignments changes, why not? Anyway, this one got me wondering: Your Good vs Evil is the classical polarized vision "I'm good/evil because I'm one of the good/evil guys" or is it more... personal?

E.g.: The paladin who doesn't flinch from torturing and killing people in name of the "good" and the laws? Sometimes you may even have some noble reasons and soft spots, but the way you do it makes you "evil". I'm also wondering what is considered evil enough to be... evil.
