That all makes sense. :) I assume Diana's Valkyrie status is the same as before, then.

Speaking of... *goes to edit her last post to have Diana explicitly say she's accepting the wings*

Yeah, her valkyrie wings will give her a bit of an advantage when the wings work, though mostly outside of battle. Example, you don't need to roll dice to climb a cliff when you can simply fly up.

Flying won't be a game-changer in battle unless I make some more tweaks... but my thought is to use the good/bad luck for that. For example, if luck favors Diana (when her wings are fully grown), there might be high winds that allow her to swoop quickly at enemies. For that round, any roll from 2-9 means the enemy misses her. So if Diana rolled a 7, which is normally exchange hits, she'd hit the enemy without getting hit herself.

The more I think on it, the more I LIKE the luck rolls being behind-the-scenes. I'll roll publicly on the GM post, just so players can see every player has an equal chance. (Maybe I'll roll for the player, then roll again for the character if Ireth/JRF wins the roll... or loses if the luck is bad.)

So, we still roll the dice as per normal?

I would find it helpful, for the role play, if everyone could write a few lines on here about their character. I'm still quite confused about who everyone is. If it's going to become a more literary game, we need to know each other's characteristics and motivations. We need to know the plot. IMO of course.

ROLLING: Yes, it's still one roll per turn. The difference is that you don't need a GM post to tell you if you succeeded or not.

CHARACTER: I'd like to see some sort of character bio as well. There are a few ways this can be done in-game…

PLOT: I think at this point, Beatrice knows the party won't back down from demons, so yeah… she needs to explain things when the party is gathered.

Here's a chart I made which shows EVERYTHING you can do with a given roll. If this works for you, I'll make pared down versions for each class.

I won't use the word "charge" for all classes, but essentially, every class has a charged state or something just as good. Also worth pointing out, with a neutral roll you can opt to "exchange hits," meaning both you and your enemy get hurt. If you decide that in your situation, your character throws caution to the wind, that's your call.

Normal Combat Rolls

I'm finalizing the rolls, so you should have that before we begin episode 3.

I'd like to have all the players gathered together so Bee can clue you into what's going on. My sister-in-law is visiting from Hong Kong, so there might be a little break in that time. She'll sleep in the room near my office, which will make uploading maps tricky. I'll try to commit to playing enough to RP, and if no one object to a small battle (that may or may not have a map) then we can try out the new rules.

On possibility, since I would like to test the new battle system. (I'm not worried about fairness so much as I'm hoping it makes sense if I throw in some class skills.)

I could pre-load some maps before my sister-in-law visits. (One map with images showing 10 enemies, 9, 8, 7...) That way, at least the visual would have the correct number of enemies. It just wouldn't reflect accurate positions, Shan Mai's weapons wouldn't be drawn even if he sheathed them to use an item, and there wouldn't be health displays (or KO'd positions in anyone runs out of health) on the map.

Thanks for letting me know. Also, I'm trying to work on my drawing skills. The first one (left) sucks, but I think aside from the arms and messy lines it was a good start. Baldhart with huge arms (middle) is hideous, but I like her with exaggerated thighs (right).

Artist Christopher Hart has some great tips, so I decided that's how I'll spend my summer vacation: draw every day. When it starts looking good, I'll scan and color.

I'm away from home, so my posts will be much more infrequent for at least a week. Hoping to get my laptop fixed when I get home, but I dunno how long that'll take or even if I can afford it right now. I've tried using the library computers in my home neighborhood for posts, but it won't let me access the site, so that's not an option. :(

As I said in the above post, it's been a crazy week, and there'll be a couple crazy weeks as my sister-in-law visits from Hong Kong. It sounds like other people are tied up, so I was thinking we could wrap up episode two for now. If you don't think it would kill the game to take a break, we begin episode 3 in July, players' schedules permitting.

I can do RP posts, but managing turn-based action with a house guest would be quite difficult (and rude to my guest).

Hi Legendary Sidekick,

Your daughters look so cute, and are obviously talented, too!

Yes, why don't we all have a break for a while.

Fenella says she'd like some time to relax and to just live the princess life, to which she's become unaccustomed.

Also, she needs to finish her quest to find Sir L, which I started in Phil's ABC fantasy fiction thread. (Where we 'met'.)

Besides, I'm doing Campnano in July so I'm getting ready for that!

I'm in the middle of writing three WIP's and have started a cartoon about a vampire pig on my blog.

I was actually thinking (especially if the changes result in shorter encounters) that targeted plot, such as rescuing Sir Lancy-pot or the Hawk couple reuniting with their daughter, could easily be worked into the game.

If you guys are up for a longer break than what I was thinking, I'm okay with that. I teach, and if any of you are in school… well, summer's the best time for WIPs to have a lot of progress. Actually, if I stay focused on my art project, hopefully I'll be a significantly better (and quicker) artist when we begin Episode 3.

Still taking a break, but trying to improve my art. Here's Addison in 3 different outfits:

(Weapons to be added later. I hate drawing weapons!)

Hi Legendary Sidekick,

Your drawings are very colourful. Addison looks like a force to be reckoned with, but stylish at the same time.

Like you, instead of writing my WIP for Campnano, I've been drawing cartoons. ( They're on my blog if you're interested!) Most people don't realise how long it takes to produce something like this!

Several weeks, counting procrastination*. A few hours with just the drawing. The right hand took the longest. I CAN'T draw a realistic gripping hand, and just to prove the point I drew several hands. I like the one that… well, the only one you see because I wasn't ashamed to upload it.

Adding new costumes is the easy part. The hard part will be making her allies (Hanako, Nissa, Baldhart) match in terms of artistic quality. Then comes the villains—so many villains!—with low-detail versions of Addy & Co. ready to takes on the horde.

*I liked that procrastination is a recurring theme in your blog! Funny 'cause it's true. Let's stop procrastinating and make that untrue… well after the holiday weekend. (American holiday. You need to come up with a British excuse.)
