Just video tape the rolls. Be sure to have one of these things that says "Take 1" on it so I know it's the first roll.

Hi, Legendary Sidekick,

You are just joking, right? Is this really possible?

Anyway, I managed to go into the dice room and roll the dice. Fenella scored an amazing.......2. :(

I saw that you were in there with some other players and that you've all thrown high scores.

Maybe all the high scores had been taken by the time Fenella arrived.

Fenella weakly waves her golden dancing sword at you for you'll have to defeat the eyes for her!

unless we get some good rolls we are going down.

HAs been a while since we had so many bad rolls together. Usually someone nails a good one while others are guttering.

our rolls:
2,7,3,7,8,19,6,2,11, (Pidge was the only person with a good roll since the big eye appeared.)

Well, I still have Vincent's idea to put into action, once LS posts again. Here's hoping the dice let me do that!

((With the adrenaline and the charge, this is the bubble song at full power. Anyone who wants to cross the gap now can. If you attack AND cross, however, you'll be directly over the whirlpool on the next turn.))

Does "anyone" also include Vincent? I recall him being allowed to move while using telekinesis in previous battles. Obviously he won't attack this turn since he needs to concentrate on moving Jei.

Vincent won't be able to cross over himself on this turn. He can move to the edge of the whirlpool, however, to make it easier to cross over while moving someone next turn.

Yes, I'm kidding. I don't even know what you call that thing that says "Take 1" on it, so it wouldn't be fair for me to ask you to order one.

Fenella's roll last turn is twice as high as most NPC rolls this turn.

Quiet in here... where'd everybody go?
Hi Ireth,

It is quiet in here. Have we defeated the eye? Have we run out of 'eye dears'? Perhaps, everyone's busy elsewhere writing their literary masterpieces?

Fenella did score a high throw last turn, (an amazing 20!) but was it enough to save our little gang of warriors? Maybe, Legendary Sidekick can let us know what happens next...

I think we're waiting on more people to post before the game gets pushed forward. I hope more people post soon, I want the eye to die before it kills us!

Congrats on the 20, btw. Here's hoping for better luck for the rest of us!

I'm still giving time for Severin and JRF to roll. It's quiet in Dragon's Egg as well, so I figure it's the holiday weekend.

Oh… you two are not from the US, so maybe you didn't know it was Memorial Day weekend over here. Somehow, cookouts always end up being a part of any American holiday from May to September.

The 20 with Fenella's huge sword didn't finish the eye, but the damage was significant. Also, every player has an adrenaline surge, meaning a roll of 13 or better will be more powerful than it normally is.

I get the feeling a lot of people are in project mode too. That includes me. Here's a piece of what I'm doing...

Arty-Avatar.png
< Artemis

...and I wish I could say this is the best I drew today. Actually, it's not even close. The one I was working on for the past hour looked waaaaaaay better. It was complete, and I even painted her toenails. All I had to do was hit the save button. Instead, I started moving things around and.......CRASH! Curse you, PS Essentials. (That's the watered down PhotoShop that came with the tablet. It's like PS, except is crashes to punish you for not saving the moment you finish something you're proud of.)

Well... I can draw her again. Maybe I'll give her a better hairstyle so I can resent it slightly less.

I'm experimenting with a few artistic styles. This is Baldhart's head in a "paper-cutout" style. The hair takes up three different layers, making pseudo-animation possible.

She'll only be three heads tall! It looks cute when I draw it. How it looks digitally. Well… I'll find out later. I only finished the head today.

Hi Legendary Sidekick,

I can't believe I did it. I thought I was going to score a 2 again!

I felt really nervous in the dice room...like being the last player to try to score a penalty at a football (soccer to you) match!

For all the bad rolls you had, my rolls were considerably worse, and your rolls were good when they needed to be. All those multi-hit attacks when the barbed eyes were around helped A LOT. Holst actually did have a good chance of winning, but his chances dropped sharply once the barbed eyes were wiped out.

Holst had the ability to heal several barbed eyes at once, as they were effectively fingers on a giant hand. If his healing spell worked when there was one, he would have had five barbed eyes to deal damage and they'd be a healthy shade of yellow. Had there been at least one on each side, his healing spell would have revived all ten. He also had the ability to charge forward two spaces, and on this turn he was close enough to knock several party members into the drink (those who chose to fight rather than cross)… but he was stunned! And killed.

And I guess his next roll also would have sucked, so a demon's victory just wasn't meant to be!

Anyway, here's the eye up close (two moves from where he was killed).

Because losing was (supposedly) easy, winning/losing actually decided what episode three would be… I mean it was that, not the whole party drowns. You have the daughter of the sea goddess in your party AND you've been babysitting that goddess' sister. I could justify the party surviving the trip, though they'd be in bad shape.

That was actually a thought I had from the beginning… I want losing a battle to be easier than dying. By that I mean, I want losing to have a consequence, but your character is likely to live to experience the defeat since you the player experiences the defeat. NPCs are more likely to suffer grave consequences than your characters.

(If you have any thoughts/feelings/opinion on that^, let me know.)

Anyway, this was the first battle in which the odds were stacked against you, if you can believe that. Congrats on the victory! Thank Rolz for rendering your biggest enemy useless!

I like the idea of having consequences to losing other than just death. I'm glad we survived so far, though. :D Looking forward to seeing what you throw at us next... though I'm hoping you'll allow our characters some down-time in the interim. I have some ideas in mind for Vincent and Diana's interactions, either before the night is over or early the next morning. Mainly having to do with Diana's choice of whether or not to accept the wings.

I could use the downtime myself, and yeah, I think this game needs more pure RP.

I think at least until June 20, I'd like to stay out of combat. June 20 is the last day of school where I teach, so this isn't the best month for me to draw maps. (Not that I drew the last two, but still… those maps took effort.) Not that we're on any kind of schedule, but I'll try to start episode 3 around July. The start of the episode isn't necessarily straight to action, though I may randomize an encounter or two (as I did with the play-by-PM for Diana and Riff).

Feel free to PM me your goals, unless that's something you can just post as you play and I just run with it. (Vincent won Emma's wager, so next time I post, I'll keep that in mind.)

I think this works as a consequence as long as you care about the fates of NPCs and/or your characters being the heroes of the story. That's partly why I didn't allow evil characters. If you're playing an evil character right, you shouldn't care if an eleven-eyed demon wipes out half the shield maidens on Mount Neverest. A neutral character would at least take comfort knowing his heroic efforts earn him praise.

You guys are all playing heroic characters well, so I'm fairly confident that this kind of consequence works. Those who "died" from the Maiden Sacrifice spell also know that helping Beatrice essentially earned you a 1-UP. I figure if the gods can help someone cheat death, protecting the vulnerable form of a goddess might earn you such a privilege. There may be a "consequence" for cheating death this way (not for those who fell because of that spell though—I don't consider that a real death), but we'll worry about that if someone actually dies.
