Is it ever okay to lie?

Lying is sometimes a necessity.
Lying is sometimes unnecessary and can cause further conflict.
It depends on the person and the situation.

While I can certainly respect this opinion, I believe that no lie is acceptable, no matter how small. I believe in being completely open and honest with people, no matter how blunt they may see me as being, it's very important to me personally to maintain that level of integrity.

Hello Reaver!! I do not know what happened exactly between you and your girlfriend, but my wish is that by now you have talked about it and continued your relationship. I have very little experiences with relationships in my life, but I have seen my sister suffering in one relationship after another and I have learned that Trust is very important.

When there is no trust in a relationship, and then jealousy and lies appear, then something is definitely not working well between the two persons- Lies can sometimes be necessary, but when we are talking about hurtful lies like it happened to you, they are never a good thing and you need to talk about it with your girlfriend. Thanks for the advice and kind words, Sheila. Although my relationship has fallen apart because of lies, my recent business trip has truly put things into perspective. I'm at the point now that I can look back at it as a learning experience, pick it apart for a few good laughs and who knows...maybe I'll use it in a story some day.

Good for you! Someone very close to me told a very big lie that I knew to be false recently but after I while I decided not to stay angry or even sad about it. Life's way too short to waste on liars and fools.

I think that lying is often fine if there is a greater purpose behind your deceit. But making it a habit or lying over something that should have obviously been told as truth is unforgivable.
