Here's the card design I'm considering. The idea is to have as few stats as possible. There's Health and three attributes: Power, Talent and Instinct.
Huntress_STATS.png

HEALTH: The Huntress has a medium sized health bar, which means she starts with 10hp and gains 3hp per level. (Lack of numbers on the card is basically intended to let GM's override my rules/numbers without having the contradiction displayed on the card.)

POWER: She rolls 3 dice when fighting. She inflicts 3 damage with most fight/shoot attacks.

TALENT: She rolls 2 dice when casting a spell or setting a trap. She can hold 2 ATTACK cards.

INSTICT: She rolls 3 dice when shooting. She can evade 3 hits. (More on that later.)

I have to rush out the door now and I can go into detail on this^ stuff later, but can you sort of figure out where I'm going with this?

"Unarmed" damage being half (rounded down) is self-explanatory, but the other smaller numbers might need a bit of explanation.

"Off-Guard" means mobbed or surprised, so you're more likely to get hit.

"Empty-Handed" means you're in battle with no attack cards, so rather than have your heroine get her butt kicked, she can spend a round attempting to hastily prep a spell.

I like the card backs! Is there going to be a board, and will the story in the board game involve the gods like ours does? If you use the locations from our game, it seems like it would lend itself to a board, though then, of course, you might need pieces for the players as well as a way to move them to each of the locations. I know I have a game that has both cards and pieces for the players, and they give each player card a dominant color to match the piece. And the player cards in that game list certain things and ways of moving that only the card possessor can do, which is very similar to how it is for your huntresses.

-3 hp per attack.

To explain that in more detail, let's give the Huntress an opponent. I've already drawn her shooting at someone, so…

addy_s_arrows_by_legendarysidekick-danai7s.png

…I'll give him some stats: Power 4 / Talent 1 / Instinct 2. And he's probably got a lot of hp, so you don't want to miss.

Screen_Shot_2017-01-16_at_2_24_07_PM.png

(Bottom roll is my first.)

So... I just got a REALLY good roll, which is perfect since I need an example. I rolled a 5 (2,2,1). And I didn't explain the combos yet, but I did trigger a combo by rolling pair of twos. My combo attack roll was 4 (2,2), so I got to roll again, and I rolled a 2 (1,1). Not a bad first turn. So let me run with that...

My first attack roll is 5. His defense is 2. 5 > 2, so I hit him. -3 hp to Octulus. And I get to roll again. My attack is 4, so I hit him yet again. (-3 hp again!) And I combo'd again too. Third roll: 2. But that also hits because defense is halved ("Off-Guard") during a combo. (It has to be, or the fairy ends up dodging everything.)

So during that one turn, I shot 3 arrows and inflicted -9 hp damage to Octulus.

…

But I didn't say what kind of arrows I was using. Let's say they were robin-feathers. Those allow you to hit the same enemy twice in a single roll, but you need to beat the defense by more than one point.

5 > 2 by more than one point, and 4 > 1 by more than one, but 2 > 1 by only one point. So with robin arrows (if I have the card, I have 12 of those in my quiver), I inflict -15 hp damage with 5 arrows. (Not six. I don't do the Robin Hood thing when I miss!)

…

In case you're wondering how the Huntress (with only 10hp at level 1) stands a chance against Octulus, I actually planned the encounter to work with the combo system. Octulus spend the first 8 rounds pulling the ship down, then he grabs any heroine who can't fly.

He can only attack players with combo dice, but…

See the lack of "6s: 2" in the first 8 rounds?

And get a load of round 9:

Four attack dice, and I rolled a zero! So if Octulus actually survives 10 rounds, he finally hits the Huntress by rolling a 4, with is greater than 3. That's -4 hp. A level 1 Huntress can't take 3 hits from this guy!

Thanks, tbgg. I don't intend on having a board, but then I'm just thinking about the cards (99 of which I haven't drawn yet). Maybe in 2018, I'll have tested this game at a friend's house (in addition to on-line), and I'll want a board or will get a comment: "This game should have a board." I won't rule it out.

So far, I've been cutting things. I had too many types of cards and I realized if I lump spells and weapons and arrows under one type called ATTACK, not only to the card backs spell out the name of the game, but I don't have armor now.

Armor is a pain in the butt! The Nymph still gets Ice Armor with her Blades of Ice spell. That's Blonde Sonja on the MONSTER card kicking the breel in the face with an ice skate.

Aaah, that makes sense. I'm not used to the 4X4 (or whatever) roll, but now that I've found it on rolz I can see how it works.

My goofing the combo rolls didn't help.

All of the rolls should be nX3. X is a code that means the highest roll counts as two successes, and the number 3 means anything 3 and up is successful. The physical die would have 2 blank sides, 3 ones (probably a sword) and 1 two (two crossed swords).

I'm still playing with the combo system a bit, but I THINK the simplest way is if you roll a pair of twos, you roll a combo attack using two dice. (Limited to two dice so combos can eventually get better.)

I know Kell can cast Pure Water - or if she didn't send all the water away from her Wave Dance spell, she could cast that again (or maybe have Pure Water replenish her Wave Dance spell?). At any rate, is there any chance she can summon enough water to put out the fire that just arrived? Or could she send a wave in a direction to give them a path out of the fire? She'd need one of the nymphs to tell her in which direction.

So if I want to have Sigrlinn make a dash for the lake, I'm guessing I'd roll 3X3 again for Instinct?

She probably plays most like what the typical guy would play. Here's the only ability card I've drawn for the Amazon so far.
Amazon_ABILITY_1.png

The Nymph also gets Shield Maiden, which is really a Norse term but still fits Athena's imagery. I've actually read the word Archeress when reading about Artemis, so I guess it's an actual word. Anyway, that's what the Fairy and Huntress get. These are level-up abilities you choose so you can hold more Attack cards.

And the rest of the fairy's abilities, which I'll later organize in a new thread once I have all of the Huntress deck completed:
Fairy_ABILITY_1.png

Officially, 2.75" (6.99 cm) / 0.01 lb. (4.54 g)

My daughter said six inches is too tall and suggested 6cm. So when I drew this, I drew what was meant to be a 6" fairy with the intent to reduce the drawing 50%, making her a 3" fairy. She ended up being short of the 3" mark, so I made her look disappointed by the measurement of her stature. I really think this is the most adorable thing I've drawn in my entire life. I can't top it.

That said, the card doesn't really give you a skill so much as it's a fact about being a fairy. The card doesn't say she can fly or can't fly, so if I were to make an official ruling (that GM's are free to override), it would be that she flutters like a butterfly until she gets the fast-flying ability…
Fairy_ABILITY_2.png

…which comes with unlimited use of the light spell. Emotions determine the color, though that's not verbally specified on the card. Same with the Sparrow Damage Doubler™, which merely implies you need a mount, but only specifies load time and load capacity.

I want to finish 9 more cards before I try to attract more players, but that doesn't mean we have to pause the game for a few weeks. I'll try to move forward sometime this week if I can.

LS, I'm guessing you'd prefer me to respond to that PM directly, rather than in the current game thread?

LS: do you even need a response from Kell? She doesn't exactly seem to be in a position to respond...
