Ch.5 "Lost Souls" / Kell and Sigrlinn

tbgg

Dark Lord
Kell smiles at Sigrlinn and begins dancing with her, taking on the man's role and twirling her, then placing Sigrlinn's hand on Kell's shoulder and Kell's on Sigrlinn's shoulder. Then she shimmies around Sigrlinn while laughing a bit at how odd it feels to be the leader. Whenever she doubts what to do, she just leads Sigrlinn through another twirl.

"Tell me if you're starting to get dizzy," she tells Sigrlinn with a smile.

Sigrlinn smiles as she follows Kell's lead, and nods at the advice. "I'll let you know. You're good at this."

As the two of you dance, several maidens put their hands together, giving you a place to dance. Sir D.J. raises his shield flatwise and the lands lead you there. You don't really feel like your being placed. You simply dance, and the two of you find yourselves on a large checkered floor (the shield) lit by the eyes of onlooking metal knights and maidens.

Kell tells Sigrlinn, "I'm going to speak with Sir DJ for a moment. You go and get someone from the audience to dance with. Just move to the music with them - you don't need to know any steps. I'll do the same once I'm done with Sir DJ."

((Giving Ireth a chance to respond before I rp Kell's conversation with Sir DJ.))

Sigrlinn tilts her head. "From the audience? You mean the giant metal people who could step on me? It'd be a bit awkward to dance with them instead of on their hands, wouldn't it?"

Though everyone in the audience is twenty-or-so times taller than you both, Heph says to Sigrlinn, "Perhaps you could select a song meant for dance partners, then if someone asks you to dance, you can accept or decline based on how safe you feel at the time."

Sigrlinn nods, taking a moment to think. A snippet of a song flows through her head -- whether it's one Brynhild once sang or a returning piece of her distant past, she's not sure. But it seems right for the moment, anyway.

Looking at Sir DJ, she asks, "Do you know one called 'Come What May'?"

Sir D.J. shakes his head.

"No."

With a push of a button, the music plays anyway.

"But you do."

He hen turns to Kell, adding,

"And you know who you want to dance with. Picture him. He will be imagined, but you will feel and see him. The illusion will only last as long as the dance."

Heph approaches Sigrlinn and says, "Speaking of dance… I don't suppose I could ask you."

As he says that, you both notice tiny Arachne skittering across her web high above. She begins weaving a what appears to be the start of a human sized article of clothing high above your heads…

Sigrlinn looks up as Heph speaks to her, and gives him a smile and a curtsey. "I'd be honored." She's still not sure how it'll work, what with the size difference, but she can't refuse a request from a god.

She looks up toward Arachne for a moment, wondering what she's weaving up there.

Kell pictures Vin at Nude Beach when he came up and asked her to dance, determination in his eyes despite the trembling in his hands. She feels her own hands become slightly damp again and her heart starts pounding.

((LS, I'm not sure if I should wait for you to bring Vin in or just assume he appears and move forward. If what Arachne is spinning is related to Vin, obviously I need to wait.))

There is a blinding light. Again, you feel clothes tearing from your bodies and—within fractions of seconds—you feel yourselves being wrapped in comfortable fabric.

Both of you are now human-sized and wearing flowing gowns—Sigrlinn in white, gold and pink-bronze, Kelleia in metallic blue, cobalt blue and shimmering silver.

The music begins.

Heph takes Sigrlinn by the hand, and has his other hand at her waist. He does his best to lead, following Kell's example from the previous dance…

If Kell wills it, Vin appears before her and asks her to dance in the exact tone and phrasing she imagines…

Sigrlinn shuts her eyes tight as a blinding glow surrounds her, and instinctively moves to cover herself when her clothes tear away. But within seconds she is clothed again, and human-sized. She admires her gown for a moment, until Heph takes her hand and leads her in the dance.

This song is slower then Kell's, and might necessitate a slightly different dance. Still she does her best to follow his lead, hoping the lyrics will do as she plans -- to help sway Heph's mind back to Aphrodite and one of the many reasons he's needed in the mortal realm.

Heph dances with Sigrlinn, trying his best to match his steps to the tempo and the mood of the music (and succeeding at the former more than the latter).

((I was going to post more, but will let tbgg post Kell before I have Heph speak.))

When the glow fades, Kell examines her gown - and not so incidentally her real size - squealing with delight. She knows blue and silver are striking on her with her silver hair and fair skin.

She goes back to focusing on Vin, imagining him in knightly attire of silver chain mail a with a surcoat of cobalt blue, appropriate to the Knight Club and in complement to her own attire. She further imagines him scanning the room when he appears, then locking eyes with her when he sees her and moving purposefully in her direction. When he nears her, he pulls out a handkerchief and holds it up by the corners. As the handkerchief unfolds, the embroidered words, 'Will You Dance With Me, Fair Nymph?' appear on it, although they are upside down. Blushing when he realizes his mistake, he gives her a goofy grin. "I knew I was going to mess that part up," he says apologetically.

Giggling, Kell holds out her hand and says simply, "Yes. It's great to see you."

She wants with every part of her to move in as close to Vin as she can, but a voice in the back of her head speaks to her, saying, That privilege is best reserved for husbands and wives. You're not there yet. Be the classy, principled woman you know you are. It won't be easy, but you won't regret it. And so she gives Vin her warmest smile and begins dancing with him, keeping her eyes locked on him and adding flourishes to complement their movement. She also passes a step or two closer to him than strictly necessary as they dance and lets her hand linger when she touches him a beat or two longer than necessary.

Her only worry is, Will he think I'm being too reserved? Then she laughs at herself. This is illusionary Vin, remember? It probably doesn't matter.

The maidens and knights give you space to dance. Within a minute, several knight-maiden couples have joined in, including Sir D.J. and Lady 64-64, and many maidens dance with each other.

At the end of the dance, Vin does not fade. Sir D.J. plays another song (as the device that activates the music seems to be part of his left forearm) and the illusion remains as long as there is music and Kell wishes it to remain.

Heph asks Sigrlinn, "Is there something on your mind?"

Seeing that Heph is given plenty of space on the dance floor (because, hey, he's Heph), dancing with Heph grants Sigrlinn an opportunity to talk to him without worry of interruption…

Sigrlinn takes a deep breath. "I've said it before, and I'll say it again: we need you back in the mortal realm. Not just to help us fight Zeus and his allies. Aphrodite needs you. You're her husband. Not her first, but you ought to be the one she's with for the rest of eternity. And your maidens... Kell-Pi and Penni and all the rest... they need their father. What these knights and maidens here feel... it's empty, I can tell. They hang on your every word because you want them to. You made them that way, you filled this world how you saw fit. The ones in the mortal world have souls and free will. They love you because they choose to. Like Aphrodite chose to."

She takes another deep breath. "I know I can't force you to do one thing or another. I'm an advisor, and you're a god. But you have a choice to make now, and I'm advising you. I think it's best for everyone -- gods, mortals, metal maidens and all -- if you come back to the mortal realm with us."

She watches his face intently, biting her lower lip as she waits for an answer.

"Yes. I am more godlike here than I ever was out there. But you have a point about my wife."

He thinks a moment and then says, "You truly are perfect for this position of advisor. Come now. Enough clubbing for one night."

Sir D.J. says, "There are forty-two knights here, my lord. And we can never have enough clubbing."

"Good one," says Heph humorlessly. "But I'm not in the mood for dancing or jokes. I'm in the mood for love."

The maidens cheer wildly.

"Sorry ladies. My Chief Executive Director of Goodness and Decency has reminded me I am a married man."

Looking at Kell, Heph says, "We leave when the song ends. Your friend deserves to finish her dance, even if the man is imaginary. There's nothing wrong with having a powerful imagination."

Sigrlinn relaxes as Heph concedes the point she made, and blushes a bit. "Thank you."

She smiles over at Kell. "True. I hope she and the real Vin can see each other soon."

Sigrlinn shakes her head. "No, it's Vin I'm concerned for. He and my old boss, Buck L'Orange, are off on an expedition, and I'm not sure when they'll be back."
