Dark Lord
Ch.5 "Lost Souls" / Kell and Sigrlinn

Kell's eyes widen in shock at the two figures in the bed.

Raising a sardonic eyebrow to Aphrodite, she says, "That's a Hades of a rotten example to set for your youngest sister, don't you think?" Kell doesn't know if she herself is Aphrodite's youngest sister, or if someone else is, but she hopes to invoke a feeling of shame in whichever version of the goddess this is.

She then turns to Ares, "And you're a Hades of a rotten brother, giving massive insult by having your brother's wife in his own bed. You would totally deserve it if Heph built a device that blew up the thing you love most, whatever that may be. For the moment, I suggest you leave, because you're not welcome here." Kell's voice and manner are calm, but her jaw is square and her eyes shoot daggers.

Ares replies, "I can take a hint." He starts to laugh, and as he climbs out of bed his member looks exactly like a banana. Peel and all.

Heph says, "Brother?! What's wrong with your voice and—uh… and that?"

Sigrlinn knows exactly what's wrong with Ares' voice. She recognizes it. He may look like an anatomically incorrect muscle-man, but the voice—and the now-golden eyes—belong to Loki!

Sigrlinn's eyes widen even further, and she takes a step back. That voice, those eyes, they burn through her memory. Both hands move to clutch at her left side in remembered pain. "Loki!"

Loki grabs the bedsheet. He whips it off the bed, and when he does, Aphrodite vanishes. In the next instant, Loki is clad in serpentine back gold. His thin, yellow-fanged face is as Sigrlinn remembers.

"Not my best entrance," he admits. "Perhaps my exit will prove more entertaining."

With those words, he leaps over the balcony.

And nothing happens.

Fear roots Sigrlinn to the spot until Loki has vanished over the edge of the balcony. She turns to the window, then looks back at Heph and Kell, with not a clue as to what she should say or do.

Kell looks at Heph, then gives him a hug to help him calm down if he needs it. "Have you had dealings with him before, or do you think he came here just to rattle your chain?"

"Thanks," Heph says. "It seems this world has unearthed one of my darkest memories and made a mockery of it. Kell, that illusion wasn't far from the real event. But I have forgiven my wife. I hope you can. She thinks of you as her sister, and there's a reason for that..."

As Heph speaks, you can't help but notice a gentle swaying, as you once felt when you boarded the fairy-themed ferry boat. There is a gentle and salty breeze blowing in from the balcony.

Sigrlinn doesn't respond to Heph's words; he seems to be speaking to Kell more than her. She moves the the balcony and looks out over the sea, gripping the railing to stop her hands trembling. Anger and shame warm her neck and face. If she's this shaken up by a mere illusion, how can she ever stand against the real Loki?

Kell releases her embrace and smiles at Heph. "As long as that was an illusion based on an event from the past and not something Aphrodite is doing right now, there's nothing to forgive if you two have come to terms about what happened."

Kell then wanders out to the balcony to investigate the breeze. Why does it seem like she might be on a boat?

About this song: I always thought it was like video game boss music. But this is a 1977 album. Video games didn't have bosses back then!

Oh—and Arachne's not the villain. Don't let the song title mislead you!

As you lean over the balcony of the mansion, you can see that the mansion is indeed floating on a chunk of land—but the land is floating in the water like a ship at the mercy of a current. The current leads to the edge of the world! As you teeter over, you feel the floor beneath you slope forward!

You start to tumble forward! As you do, you get a real good look at the depths of space—the black sun far below the raging falls where water and broken pieces spill over the world's end…

Sigrlinn cries out in alarm as she topples forward off the balcony, trying not to flail in panic as the land and sea and sky swap places around her--

Both of you find yourselves hanging onto the railing of the balcony...!

With neither of you having fallen, you get a moment's peace that allows you to (1) climb onto either the balcony OR the roof and (2) assess the situation.

The mansion is going to sail over the edge. There isn't any doubt in your minds. But what is interesting is the black sun. It sucks the light surrounding it the way the knife did. Whether this is the way to exit the knife or a way deeper in, you can't be sure.

But there are things that you're sure of. You remember having learned some magic

Ch.5 "Lost Souls" / Kell and Sigrlinn

Concentrating from her precarious position, Kell makes the chant for Nature's Call, summoning a series of vines that go from the balcony's edge up to the roof. There are enough vines that Sigrlinn can use some to climb, too, if she has trouble climbing without aid.

The cast seems especially strong to Kell, and once she is satisfied the vines are firmly anchored, she begins making her way toward the roof of the mansion.

She calls, "Are you okay, Sigrlinn?"

((@tbgg, you're not finished with your casting round. You combo'd, so roll #2X3. The rolls will add up, meaning you'll be able to cast damaging vines for 6+ rounds.))

With the wind rushing into her face as the mansion moves ever closer to the edge of the world, Sigrlinn has a flash of insight. Maybe she can use the wind to her advantage and avoid being pulled over the edge -- and, if she's lucky, keep the others from the same fate.

...On second thought, maybe climbing the vines Kell just sent her way is a better idea.

"I'm okay," she calls in answer. "Be with you in a minute!"

Kell's connection to nature is surprisingly powerful in this strange metallic world. Ivy rises from the ground below and up the forward-tilting wall.

You both feel small vines wrap around your ankles, and some stick to the waist. Should you try movingto a new position, Sigrlinn will be able to move at a normal climbing speed while keeping her hands free to fight or shoot. Her weapon: a bow that Arachne weaves out of thin air. Heph has a sword appear in a scabbard that attaches itself to her hip.

As for Kell, she can move at normal walking speed and the vines will follow her--leaving a trail for Sigrlinn. Kell's only weapon for now are the vines.

((Fight 2x3 = grapple: use a vine whip to prevent the enemy from
moving, but not necessarily from attacking

Shoot 1x3 = trap: same as grapple, but the tendrils appear from the ground

Magic 4x3 = vines wrap around the throat (damage);
combo: vines slam the enemy (x2 damage)

Combo = can switch between damaging and non-damaging effects when combo'ing -- but the grapple/trap effect may have a lesser effect on a large monster))

And what would that larger monster be?

Webs begin to shoot up from over the world's edge. It's not clear what the webs are even clinging to--but eight strands fly into the distance and tighten. As they straighten out, there is a full net-like spider web. It's enormous, as is the spider man at the center. He is like Arachne, but three times your height--a nine-foot-tall Loki with a spider body from the waist down.

He has a cowboy hat and at his waist, two holsters with bananas in them.

"Draw!"

((Roll instinct to see who goes first!))

Sigrlinn flinches back from the webs that shoot up out of the dark, and freezes again at the sight of Loki, now transformed into a gigantic mockery of Arachne's spider-form, in the middle of an enormous web. At the word "Draw", she tries to summon the will to attack...

Round 0

Loki reaches for his bananas, but Kell is just quick enough on the draw to attack first.

((How I'll do initiative: whoever rolls the target or better gets to attack in "round zero." This means you attack first, or you can even get into a position of stealth, attempt to flee, etc. You can also cast, but since Kell already cast, she can attack with MAGIC or SHOOT.

Obviously, MAGIC is the better choice for Kell. If you combo with a spell you can switch between damage and effects. For Nature's Call, magic attacks damage and grapple/trap attacks slow or disable the enemy.))
