Sigrlinn's one arrow is weak, and the nymphs' arrows don't seem much stronger. But all five are soaring toward their target. Will that be enough...?

The webbed nymph's body is losing more blood than a body should contain. The pale, wingless fairy is using her own life force to keep the nymph alive...

Helix is ready for another pass...

The five arrows are passing by Sapphire, whose hands are now emitting two blue flames...

((The turn isn't over until Kell's attack is posted...))

Sigrlinn's arrow is a streak of white light headed straight for the spider. The nymphs' arrows fly alongside, but spread until all five arrows form a ring.

As the five arrows pass Sapphire, a blue star-shaped flame bursts from her tiny body. The arrows are lit—all five burst on impact! Five spider legs are launched into space!

The spider can barely stand on the surface of the water. Its victim is still impaled on its fangs. The spider floods the webbed nymph's body with deadly poison. Phœbe appears too weak to continue healing the nymph.

Having lost confidence in her attack, Kell sends Helix solo and readies a spell. It seems her efforts will be too late, but Helix races toward his target. Once under the spider, he leaps from the water! His horn pushes against the solid underbelly as Helix, the spider, the webbed nymph and the wingless fairy all float into space.

Sigrlinn's magic allows Helix one more burst of air which he uses not to save himself, but to impale the spider on his horn. Yellow fluids pour all over Helix. Holy shit! This is nasty! And stingy! I can't feem mrm frrce. Rm thrnk rm grrng nrrmm!

Helix is going numb, and he's also floating into space with a spider impaled on his horn. The webbed nymph needs to be detached from the spider or there may be more dead than just the spider.

((I rolled a 7 for Helix—just enough to finish the spider. All of the arrows were weak, but the nymphs were using something similar to Heaven's Arrows so they wouldn't miss. Without Helix's attack, the spider would have survived.

Since he's dead, I'll post the result of Kell's spell. Sigrlinn can use her magic to prevent tragedy.))

Kell's wave dance sends a water from the bottom of the world to a place between the spider and its victim! The sudden blast of water separates the spider and nymph and washes away the web. Her flesh is a sickly pale color, and it's difficult to determine whether she and Phœbe are still alive!

Sapphire flies to Phœbe. The water moves in an arc, sending the hopefully-unconscious nymph to the bottom of the world. She will need help so she doesn't drown, assuming she's breathing at all.

As for Helix, he and the spider are falling past the moon boat, into the depths of space…

((Helix is thirty feet away from the boat.))

SITUATION:
* The spider is finally hit, and dead!
* KO'd nymph in danger of drowning.
* Helix's horn stuck in dead spider, falling into space.
* Sapphire has Phœbe in her arms.
* Kell is swimming.
* Sigrlinn and five nymphs are in the moon boat.

Sigrlinn trusts Kell to save the drowning nymph, and launches herself out toward Helix and the spider, hoping to save the unicorn as she saved the falling nymph.

Sigrlinn is able to save Helix. He chooses to go into the water at the bottom of the world. Sigrlinn has barely enough wind to get herself back into the moon boat.

'Helix! Help me save the nymph!' Kell calls as she begins swimming toward the webbed nymph. Will she be in time? If the nymph is not about to die, she begins pulling her toward the boat. If she is, Kell gets a bandage from the healing kit and applies it to her before pulling her toward the boat.

Kelleia doesn't feel a pulse, and wastes no time debate about wether the nymph is about to die or already did. She uses the healing kit, while Helix keeps the nymph afloat. (Strangely, "afloat" means hanging over a starry abyss, but it seems that as long as part of a body is submerged, one can float on the surface without falling out of the water. When doing so, it's difficult to say whether the stars are above or below.)

After a few seconds, Kell can see that the nymph is breathing. She is weak, but alive. There is some kind of healing magic within the bandage. As long as it is on her, the nymph seems to gradually regain her strength. At the very least, she is stable.

Kell tells the nymph, "OK, let's get you back to your boat," and holds onto Helix's dorsal fin with one hand and the nymph with the other.

OK, sidekick, Kell thinks to Helix, Let's get her to the boat!

Sigrlinn remains in the boat with the other nymphs, ready to help Kell and company climb aboard if need be. But where is Artemis during all this?

Helix leaps from the water--sort of--leaving his tail fin submerged just enough so only Kell and the nymph rise (or fall, rather) completely out of the water.

Kell clings to the unconscious nymph as the bursting air bubble propels her toward the moon boat. Sigrlinn can use her power over the wind to slow the fall ((no need to roll; a 2 would be enough)), but even without magic there are five nymphs ready to catch their two slow-falling sisters.

The apparent leader wears a rose in her hair. "Ivy is poisoned," she says with a sense of urgency. The poisoned nymph wears an ivy wreath on her head. Another nymph with a black-eyed susan in her hair applies an herbal remedy to Ivy's wounds. "Thank you, Susan."

Once the leader has spoken two of the names, our heroines can guess the rest. The leader wears a rose, and the other yet-to-be-named nymphs each wear a flower of a different color: a tiger lily, a violet, and some heather.

Rose says that she and the others live in Sardis, and are on Moon Duty tonight. "Artemis usually has us or another group take the boat. She likes to be out in the wild. Last night, she took the boat alone, which was unexpected."

Lily says, "She rowed by herself the whole night. I think even Olympians get tuckered out."

Kell can't help but notice these nymphs are nothing like those in Nyse. They might be considered pretty, but they don't seem to care about prettiness. Lily has streaks of paint on her face and limbs. She might have used some kind of mud.

When Ivy wakes up, she looks at our heroines. "Four of you, huh?"

Sapphire says, "Phoebe and I don't take up much space."

Violet offers her lap to the fairies. She removes some kind of ointment from her bag and instructs Sapphire. Violet is the smallest of the nymphs, but she seems to think the fairy in her hands is a fragile creature. She remains perfectly still while Sapphire works on her friend.

Ivy finally says, "Thanks for saving my life." She says nothing else, but simply grabs her oars. Lily and Heather do the same and the three start rowing.

Rose and Susan ready bows. It doesn't take long for our heroines to figure out why.

More spidery monsters skitter along the bottom of the world. Helix can easily swim over them, but so many creatures shooting webs might make it impossible to get by on the moon boat.

Susan says to Sigrlinn, "You have magic arrows, Huntress. Any more tricks besides Not Missing?"

SITUATION: More spiders than you can count approach from afar. You are out of their range at the moment. Those pesky spells that take a round or two to charge can be cast (multiple times) before the spiders get too close.

Kell casts the Wave Dance spell at the spiders, since she has the time to spare.

The water splashes a couple spiders. They are probably irritated, but they are too far away for Kell to be sure. She's sure that there are over a hundred spiders who were not affected.

Lily says, "We can squirt a few, fire arrows... it won't make much difference."

Heather says, "I've never seen this many at once."

Sapphire offers to combine fire with Sigrlinn's arrows.

"Not if you want your wingless friend to survive," Violet says. "She needs your little fairy hands. That spider poison's in her tiny body. If she needs to bathe in my ointment jar, fine. It'll contaminate the mix, but you do what you need to save your friend."

Ivy watches Sigrlinn to see what she'll attempt.

Rose and Susan fire arrows. They hit, but none of the spiders fall. It doesn't look like there's enough time to kill them all, even if every archer fires arrows an arrow at the same time.

Sigrlinn says, "I can also speed up a creature I'm riding, or make jets of air to levitate or fall slowly." She frowns. "I wonder if Ride of the Valkyrie would work on the boat..."

Kell tells Sigrlinn, "I wonder if I could cast Ice Blades, put the blades on the boat, turn the water to ice, and then you could put Ride of the Valkyrie on us to speed us up?"

Then she frowns. "Though I have no idea what Helix would do..."

Helix thinks to Kell, I can swim under—I mean—OVER the spiders. I think you got the right idea combining magic, but you might wanna stop those spiders before you speed toward them.

The spiders start to spread into a horseshoe formation. It looks like they're planning to form a circle, then converge. There must be hundreds of them. (Fortunately for Helix, they all seem interested in remaining on the surface.)

"They got organized," Heather says.

Lily says, "We usually just shoot a couple and the rest don't bother us. But we've never faced more than five at a time. There were ten before you saved our butts. We almost had 'em."

Ivy says, "Yeah, but the last one almost had me." She asks our heroines, "Who'd you piss off?"

"Our boss' brother," Susan replies.

"I thought he was nice," Violet moans. "And what's he got to do with giant spider crabs?"

"Nothing," says Rose. "But those spiders are our problem no matter who sent them." She tells Kell, "I like where you're going with that ice idea…"

Sapphire says to Sigrlinn, "And I think Ride of the Valkyrie can work on the boat just like you say it works on mounts. Anything you can ride, right? I mean, if you're wrong nothing happens and we try something else. But if you're right, I have a fire spell I can combine wi—"

"No…" Violet interrupts, "I reeeeeally need you to keep your dainty fairy hands on this tiny wingless friend of yours. How about the nymph and huntress try their ice-and-whatever thing first?"

Rose says, "Not the ice-and-boat thing, though. At least not yet. I'd feel more comfortable if you two can think of a way to fight or protect us from the webs before we pass those things."

Sigrlinn looks at Kell. "Could you freeze the water so the spiders can't move before I cast Ride to speed us up? Then maybe you can use your ice blades to cut the webs they sling at us, and I can use my carving knife and stay aloft with Ascension."

Kell nods. "Yeah, I can do that." And she thinks to Helix, 'Ice incoming!' before beginning the chant for Ice Blades, imagining icy blades in her hands and the water turning to ice over in the spiders' area and moving toward their boat.

Kell makes a pair of icy swords, but these won't affect a large volume of water. Sapphire suggests combining the spell with one from another magic user. "If you want, I could--"

"No," Violet says. "YOU are healing your friend. The huntress knows attack magic. SHE can attack with ice."

Sigrlinn has a flash of inspiration and looks at Kell. "What about that boomerang of yours? Doesn't it work best on crowds of enemies?"
