Ch.3: "Silver Tide" / Nyse Lagoon

Dark Lord
Kelleia

Kell blinks awake. "Wha-?" she asks, a bit groggily. "How long have I been asleep?"

Then she says, "Magic. You were going to talk to us about elemental magic so we don't pick the same spells, or the same element, or something."

Aglaia looks down at Kell as she awakens in her lap. Euphrosyne releases her hand, and Aglaia helps her up. She looks down at Leto. "Oh… poor dear. She must be dreaming something horrible."

Thalia says, "On the bright side, the meditation should work. The mind is always stronger after you faces your fear."

Euphrosyne says, "You mean usually."

"Yes. Almost always." Thalia strokes Leto's hair.

Algeria says to Kell, "Improving charm is probably wasted on you, since you won't use that power to its fullest. You were interested in water and earth, I believe? Maybe we should start with water. What would you do with water if you could control that element?"

Sigrlinn (formerly Leto)

Sigrlinn wakes up sobbing, curled on the floor of the room where she fell asleep. For a while she just lies there, tears falling to the floor as she struggles to catch her breath. It's a couple of minutes before she can even sit up or raise her head, looking at the Graces with her vision blurred. She doesn't speak, not yet.

Thinking for a moment, Kell says, "Well, I think it could be useful to do things like suck the liquid out of a living person, if only temporarily, if they were threatening us. It could also be useful to create a wave to help us travel if we were stuck on the sea, or to use that wave to send someone or something away from us. If the wave could be created on land, we could use it for similar reasons, or to put out a fire. It might be useful to use water to wear away stone if that could be done rapidly, or to heat water for cooking or to freeze it to cool something down, or even to create or stop a whirlpool. Oh, and if I could purify it, we could have clean drinking water whenever we needed it."

Seeing her friend crying, Kell reaches out and just rubs her back in a way similar to how Niobe did with her when she was younger and particularly upset. She doesn't say anything, trusting that her friend will speak when she's ready to.

Euphrosyne holds Leto close as she wakes up in. "It's okay," she tells the Huntress. "You were blocking too much. I didn't mean for this to happen." She dabs Leto's face with the hem of her toga. "Let it all out. We'll talk when you're ready."

Thalia ponders Kell's words for a moment. "Hmm… dehydration? No, you won't like that spell very much. It wouldn't be pretty, and you're much too kind to do that, even to an enemy. Now the wave… that would be nice. I think the same spell that pushes a ship could put out a fire or even wear away a stone. You would be able to start or stop a whirlpool, though that won't be easy and may take a bit of time. Creating enough water to drink might be quick and easy. Heating and cooling? Well… heating is fire. Cooling is ice, but oddly, that will work."

Aglaia says, "What about underwater breathing?"

Thalia shakes her head. "That takes time to master." She turns to Kell. "With a name like Silvertide, I almost expect water to be your choice. Of course, your fate is not sealed by a name that twas given to you. I'll ask anyway. How do you feel about breathing under the water? You would have to start with water now, then go on to master the element for that to be possible."

As Kell rubs Leto's back, Aglaia says to her, "There are benefits to choosing an element and sticking to it."

Euphrosyne leaves Leto in Kell's care for now. The Grace then stands and undoes her toga. She is naked underneath, yet she does not expose herself to our heroines. By the time the toga drops, the grace's body is covered in flowers—like an advanced version of the spell from Kell's staff. "This is what I can create in an instant. If I focus, I can make a complete outfit. You might not even realize it's made of flowers. That's just the fun side of mastering the earth element."

"Underwater breathing sounds awesome!" Kell exclaims. "Is there a fun part to mastering water?"

Sigrlinn

Sigrlinn leans into Euphrosyne's hold as she cries, and takes deep breaths to remaster her breathing. When she can speak, she quietly thanks those who helped her calm down. Her head and side both hurt as if Loki had really struck her again. Images of fire and fangs and golden eyes plague her every time she blinks. Maybe she should learn to master fire through magic... then she wouldn't have to be afraid of it.

Thalia says, "Every little girl knows you can make a dress out of ice and look like a princess thanks to that popular book about sisterly love."

She drops her toga, twirls, and within seconds is dressed similarly to Ansa and Ella, the Ice Princesses!

Aglaia says, "We should all go make some daughters so we can read it to them."

Thalia goes on, "There are ways you can change your body depending on the element. The mermaid form is the obvious choice for water. Fairies have a cute form known as the sea kentauride. It's a mermaid with a seahorse tail!"

Euphrosa says, "A kentauride is my chosen form." She changes her form to that of a kentauride (female centaur). Her clothing changes to accommodate her new shape.

Kell asks, "Is the kentauride a water element form, or a form for one of the other elements?"

Sigrlinn

Sigrlinn watches with interest as the nymphs change their outfits and forms. "What about air magic? Would I be able to grow wings to fly with?" Maybe she can be a sort of valkyrie after all. "Or fire... what would be the form for that?"

Euphrosa says, "Earth is my element."

Thalia says, "I can be a mermaid, but I'd rather do that in the water. I could flood this roof and keep the water contained. It's impolite though. Aphrodite doesn't want a pool on her roof."

Aglaia burns her clothes off. She remains nude and glows bright like a miniature sun. Phoenix wings spread from her back.

She tells Leto, "You could probably have an angelic form like mine with air, only you won't burn your clothes off."

Kell nods. "Being able to change into a mermaid sounds like fun. I could go swimming with Sonja if she were around. And with Helix in his dolphicorn form." She giggles.

Then she asks, "What happens to things you're carrying, like a backpack, when you change forms? For that matter, where are my things now? I took them off before I started practicing punching and kicking, but I'm not in that room anymore."

Sigrlinn

Sigrlinn nods, fascinated. "Both of those could be useful." She's not sure she'd willingly burn her clothes off too often, though. But flying might come in handy, especially for her planned visit with Artemis.

Thalia shrugs, "You would just… keep wearing the backpack?"

Euphrosyne says, "Oh! I get what you mean, Kell. Um… don't. Wear. Underwear."

Thalia nods. "Right, and no pants or tights or shoes. Wear magical clothing or just have a long wrap skirt. You will soooooooo hate yourself if you become a mermaid with underwear on. Not that I ever made that mistake."

Euphrosyne sighs. "I did. It's worst of all if you're a kentauride. The underwear doesn't just tear. It expands and emphasizes how big my horsey butt is!"

Aglaia says, "I would burn the backpack. I hear Vivi's Orange Phœnix purses don't burn. But clothing does tend to burn when I change. Honestly, I don't leave Nyse because it's socially acceptable to remain nude. Aphrodite told us you two would prefer us to be clothed, so we threw on some togas."

Thalia says, "They're actually our bedsheets."

Sigrlinn winces in sympathy. "I imagine a backpack would get in the way of wings that don't burn. I'll have to get my hands on some backless dresses before I try that."

She smiles at the mention of bedsheet togas. "I appreciate that."

((Fire actually gives you an alternate version of each form, but the fire is destructive and you would swim in lava instead of water.

Water = mermaid / Fire variation = lava maiden
Earth = kentauride / Fire variation = fire mare
Air = valkyrie / Fire variation = phœnix))

Kell says wryly, "While nudity might be socially acceptable here, it leaves me feeling like someone is assaulting my senses, so I appreciate you three wearing the togas. But for me, I suppose I can wear a wrap skirt or magical clothing."

Then she giggles. "Aqua Scrunchy to the rescue!"
