I really don't know how to respond to that, so I will just ignore it.

WARNING! The following contains an uninhibited stream of conciousness from myself, if you just want to know the point i'm making skip to the end.

I was thinking about how this information is going to be compiled. For now it makes sense to keep it confined to this thread but once the number of people contributing grows to a certain extent it would make sense to have a sub-forum dedicated to the project. Then again that could get pretty confusing to people trying to find information for stories. A Wiki would make it easier for them that information. Having a ton of people editing a wiki can get pretty messy though. If only there was some way to merge them together, any ways onto how I think it could work.

THE END
Once we get enough people, we should probably see if Black Dragon would be willing to bequeth unto us our own sub-forum for the building part of the world-building, and then the Editiors-in-Chief could get together and actually write the wiki. That way the building and world are kept distinct and neither impairs the usability of the other.

I was thinking of a Lost World type of island for mine. Or at least a volcanic island. I see the mountain symbol and I immediately thought of volcano. Just need to find out roughly how big the island is.

From my rough guesstimation using a folded up 3x5 note card (I couldn't find a ruler) your island north to south is about a quarter of an inch, so 50mi. This has led my to double check the distance of my island from the equator and have found that it is nowhere near where I thought it was. In March I had deduced that it was at the same latitude as Scotland, and I now have no idea how I did that. Its actually level with the southern edge of the Sahara desert, which means I have to change some of the ideas, unless we change the scale (*hint hint*, just kidding, or am I?...).

Anyways Kaellpae I would keep in mind that one mountain symbol doesn't equate to one mountain. I'm a little iffy on the Lost World thing but I think the volcano is a cool idea. I think it would be interesting to see how you use it, is it sleeping the people not knowing when it will blow or is it constantly spewing lava slowly expanding the island? Maybe the export products only found near the volcano like obsidian. Anyway I think I answered your question somewhere in here.

I'm still trying to figure out how I can do it. I wouldn't want a Jurassic Park rip-off, or a copy of The Land of the Lost. It will be a currently dormant volcano. It isn't very old and when it formed it pushed a lot of locals out.
I was curious as to the size because if it was really small it could be a one mountain island. But I'll include other mountains if it's 50 miles.

Instead of changing scale we could move it a little north? Maybe the middle islands can be about halfway between the Equator and the Pole.

What I have stated in previous threads about scale or the position of the equator was just for working purposes. I didn't actually draw any of that into the map precisely because of these kinds of issues. With probably a dozen people working on it, someone was sure to ask that it be changed. With that said; as long as there is a group consensus, I'm fine with the scale being modified and/or the equator being moved.

How would it sound to put the island to the north of my tiny island at the 45th Parallel? Maybe the southern coast? That way the Northern island could be worked into a colder island if that's what the aim is?

I agree with moving the central island to the 45 parallel, but I think a scale change would be good to. As of now from the southernmost tip of the Big Island to the northernmost point of my island is less than 1000 mi. To show how small that is, Great Britain (England and Scotland) is about 680 mi. Maybe the scale could be 1in could be three or four hundred miles.

Well if we have the scale at one inch for 400 miles that puts my island to 100 miles. I would be fine with that. With a scale change to that how would that put us for our world? I think it would be nice for the far north to be cold and southern islands be tropical. Seems like the new scale and placement would do that. Would make a varying climate and varying cultures.

I agree, climate has a lot to do with culture and before all of the islands had similar climates so there wouldn't have been as much of an effect. What does everyone else have to say?

Alrighty, here's the idea I have for the tiny island.
Most of the island is a flowing plain, gradually rising to the Northeast to drop off to cliffs on the coast.
Near the middle there used to be a large city with a temple at its center. The temple was used for worshipping gods and performing sacrfices. The sacrifices were dropped into a sulfur spewing pit. An earthquake wiped out the city and any survivors became a nomadic people, staying away from the sacred ground of the temple. Settlers came to the island via the southwest coast. A city was established and soon more settlers moved out to begin farming the land. When the ancient temple was found an expedition to explore it was soon underway. It now rested at the bottom of a hill, a spring flowing from the top of the hill and into the temple. The sulfur pit was flooded and became a retreat for the rich to soak in the hot mineral baths.
A bit more recent. Another earthquake centralized around the temple/retreat, while nowhere near as strong as the first earthquake it had a much bigger impact afterwards. There was a bit of shaking, but otherwise not even the weakest buildings fell. A few months and many mini-quakes later the settlers knew something was wrong. The hill the spring flows from was growing in height. By the same time a year later the hill was a mountain the likes have never been seen by any of them. The mountain pushed everyone out of the area. The temple/retreat was halfway to the top and nearly unrecognizable, except for the large stones scattered in the area.

Ugh. Anywho.. I'm tired and don't even know what I'M tryin to say. So I'll wrap up with some geography for how it looks now after that ranting history..

The north coast has a port town with workers building a pass to the highlands of the island. The nomads populate the North and to the East after being pushed out of the rest of the island. The settlers have a city on the southwest coast. The main export is sheep(or its equivalent).
The people of the island are a mix of all the different people of the surrounding islands.

I don't know what else to put right now. So if you have questions ask. Then I'll know what I need to explain better. The ideas are clouding my mind too much, and so is the sleepiness.

As of yet the entire project is contained in this thread, eventually I believe we are planning on making a wiki but that is a long way down the road. Right now you can become an Editor-in-Chief of one of the unclaimed islands and start creating a civilization for it or just donate ideas for the other participants.

Okay, I'll start now.

How about an island named Calastor. I won't go into too much detail, but how about in the summer and spring its like a regular island, but in the winter and fall its mostly under water. Just an idea.

May I join in and get my own island too? I think this could be fun. I could draw a map of my island and make a 3D model of it in blender :D I actually already have a possible ruler of my island modelled, he's quite chinese looking so I think my civilisation will all be somewhat chinese inspired, (that is if I'm allowed to participate).

If you check the first page of this thread there is a map of the archipelago, and earlier on this page is a list of claimed/unclaimed islands. You might want to start there first.
