A Worldbuilding Propositon!

If the tiny island in the centre is, as I would think, the 'Central Island', and if it's still unclaimed, then I'll take that one I'm placing a temple named Say Taru right at the centre of it on the mountain top. A long winding path makes its way through the mountain to Say Taru's entrance. Within are the cosmic gazers, wisemen, fortune tellers and so-on. Say Taru is open on Tuesdays to knowledge-seekers, members of the public who have come to ask a question, one per person, providing a suitable donation to the temple beforehand. You may not take back your donation after recieving your unsatisfactory and vague answer...

The central island is actually the one just north of the tiny island. The tiny island has already been taken by Kaellpae.

Darn, that would've been perfect. I'll take the island NW of Central then. I'll put Say Taru on the small island there, (it comes with the NW island right?). The other, larger island can be composed of the suckers, ahem, knowledge-seekers, who all wish to one day make the journey to Say Taru, (but need to save up enough chickens first for the donation).

Should we put a list of the claimed islands and who is helping the EiC of each island onto the first page? That way anyone coming into the thread doesn't have to play Where's Waldo with some important info.

I'd like to join in on this exercise. If it's still up for grabs I'd like the center island. It screams trade/commerce center to me with a neutral free enterprize loving government. Trade taxes could easily fund everything but could be kept low due to the sheer volume of trade. It also could serve as neutral ground for waring islands to come to an agreement.

Yup the center island is still available, and a trader culture sounds interesting. I was actually planning for my island to be the neutral ground but maybe we can work something out.

@Kaellpae if by edit the first page you mean the first post, that is really up to JCFarnham as he is the only one able to edit. Also for me the map is on the first page about 3/4 the way down. Right now since there are relatively few people its just as easy for me to just answer there questions. Eventually when we are big enough for a sub-forum there will be a thread with just that information.

That's ok. You can have the switzerland approach. I can just take the as long as you've got the coin approach. Diplomacy is highly overrated and entirely unprofitable anyways.

I have always wanted to do a collaboration. I think it sounds like loads of fun, and also it would give me an opportunity to write a short story rather than a whole novel. I've had some great characters I'd love to write, but I don't think I'd like to carry them out through 3-400 pages, you know?

Can I write a character for someone's island? I don't want my own island, I just need the parameters within which I need to work.
I love controversial characters and ones with loads of conflict, so if you envision your island containing a religious fanatic, a madam with a brothel full of spies, a mobilized army that needs discord-causing camp followers..... HA or anything else that creates chaos and intrigue... let me know. I don't know all the rules of the world, but I'm willing to work with someone who has their island pretty well fleshed out and just needs some colorful characters. (Please don't mistake my conflict-causing characters for ruiners. I'd be happy to provide examples of some I've already written.)

I had already had the idea of having a secret fanatical religious sect on my island. The island is still in its preliminary stages but if you want to help flesh out this sect it would be a great help. If you have any other questions you can either post them here or send my a PM. Also, if you haven't already I would suggest reading through the rest of the thread, it might be one of the other islands is more attractive to you.

Is it easier for everyone if I edit the map to state which islands have been claimed and just re-post it? Obviously people aren't bothering to read prior posts, since they keep laying claim to the same islands

Please do, a couple have been claimed since I posted that list, and I doubt j.c will return and claim his island so I believe it is safe to reopen that one.

That might be best. Were you still wanting to add cities or other featurs EiC were adding to their island? I think that'd be a bit hard with my itty bitty island.

I think for that map only major cities/capitals should be added. Eventually I think each Island should have a "zoomed in" version that can have the rest.

Ok, I'm reposting the map with some enhancements. I've added in the scale, longitude lines as calculated by the suggestion of where to place the 45th paralell, and colored the ocean blue. I also replaced my awful handwriting in the key with some nice clean typing. For all those of you who wish to claim islands, or work with someone who has claimed one, you need to look at this map first.

For all those of you who wish me to add detail to your island, major cities, etc, please PM me with where you want the city. Be as specific as possible, and understand that I don't aspire to spend my evenings moving dots three pixels one way or the other to satisfy your inner perfectionist. This is a semi-global scale map. You're lucky cities show up at all at this magnification.

Myrddin suggested zoomed in versions of each island. I can do that, but it will take a while, and there is really no point until people start churning out some detail that requires it.
