Ysgard RP Discussion Thread

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been neglecting Winds. I'm definitely up for a scene change, as I think we've seen and done all there is to see and do in the inn. Veni, vidi, vici...

Oh man... I've been taking a bit of a break from the forum to work on my novel, as I've found that me discussing writing does not always get writing done, but I'm afraid that's ended up with Winds getting neglected as well. Even when I'm not writing, I feel like my imaginative space is all taken up by the other story... At any rate, this is what I've managed so far, but I'll have the actual skip up tomorrow. Back to novel fever.

Ha, yeah, Camp NaNo is making me forget all about Ysgard. Once it's over I'll be kind of relieved. I haven't thought at all about what I want to do with upcoming posts...usually I'm plotting out narratives days in advance.

I've forgotten to even update my Camp NaNo count... It's just been writing (and a lot of thinking about writing), reading select books for inspiration, playing the Sims 4 Okay, a little bit of that too.

I figure Addison's night will be nothing more than hitting the pillow and losing consciousness. And she wakes up hungry. It's what she gets for using her magic to toy with insects.

I think she has less respect for life than other druids. Or at least, she has no qualms about using her magic fairly. I'm sure most druids would frown upon using beast-speak to make a deer feel safe before shooting it, whereas Addison would justify it as an act of mercy. (I figure she had unwittingly lured animals to their deaths, unaware of the magic in her. I suppose the sparks happened less often, and she blamed her lightning-based equipment for the sparks.)

Einan and Addy might be alike in that respect. Einan has a little bit of druid magic as well, which he uses when hunting. It would be interesting if they somehow stumbled upon a "real" druid who frowned upon Einan and Addy's unorthodox use of their magic.

I have an idea for a druid character to bring in later. Her power isn't focused on animals at all, so I don't know what her opinion would be of Addy's and Einan's uses, but it should be interesting to have them interact.

I've spent the past week commiserating the end of Justified by writing nothing but sarcastic gunslingers. On the bright side, I've gotten that and the urge to randomly give characters southern accents out of my system... mostly. I promise not to have Loke say 'y'all' or threaten to draw on anybody.

I know how you feel about the accent thing--I've been watching too much Supernatural. I have to be careful now not to let anybody slip into American slang and a midwestern accent.

Poor Farrun is perpetually behind because of me. :p I can't keep up with you guys! We'll do a skip after this convo is done, eh?

Allow Loke to exposit on fear, you say? Now that's an offer I just can't resist. Get's a bit rambly, of course, but if your grizzled veterans don't occasionally ramble than they're not grizzled enough.

This was a really busy weekend--my family was over, and then my sister's car acquired mechanical trouble as she was going to leave, and I had to help her find a hotel, a dealer, and a rental on short notice, so...I did not end up getting as much writing done as I was hoping for, rp or otherwise. I'll get a post up today, but first I gotta read everything

I think Einan and Troia had their first real fight...guess they both will need time to cool off before they settle their differences.

Before I check out Tom's in-game post, I gotta say that I really love Loke's harsh past: cannibalism! DM, I don't know if there's a pre-written history or you just keep adding to the guy's past as we go. Either way, it's working, and I look forward to more of it!

So after reading Tom's post, I thought Addy would attempt to give Troia a means to gracefully leave the table. There is something she wants to ask that has nothing to do with the couple spat, and could be asked publicly. Her intent is to give Troia a means to walk away and not feel compelled to sit and feel dumb at the table.

I had a recent experience that reminded me how much it sucks to be eating with a group, someone lashes out at you then makes it impossible to reply.

Without being vague, it was a coworker who didn't approve of me being a public school teacher sending my kids to private school. She called me a "hypocrite" for taking taxpayer money (meaning the money I earn for doing my job) and spending it on my kids' education. She said what I'm doing "would be like working for Pepsi and drinking something else." I told her I'd have no qualms about drinking Coke if I prefer the taste, so she ended the discussion with implications about my integrity as a teacher—implying I lack it because of what I do at my own expense for my own kids—and a table-pounding "IIII. SUPPORT. PUBLIC. SCHOOLS." She immediately started a conversation with the colleague I was talking to before she rudely hijacked my conversation, so if I had replied—though I'd have been civil—I'd look like a dick for interrupting.

So, yeah. My own experience helped guide how Addison should help Troia not have to sit there and silently blush. Which is awkward. And which sucks.

Yeah, I've had that happen to me before. It's no fun to have someone blow up on you and then have everyone else staring at you, wondering how you're going to respond.

Okay, so...clearly, I'm having a bit of difficulty making a post for this rp. The thing is, I've been making serious progress on my novel WIP, which is now at almost 30k of the second draft after being stuck at 20k for a million years, I've read six books in the last week, and in short, I'm in a great place with my writing...but I still feel guilty for leaving Winds of Ysgard in the mire. And I got nothing.

Where are you guys at? Are you okay with these intermittent hiatuses, or are you sick of this? I know we haven't been going for long, and everyone has other projects to work on, but that makes it harder to re-commit. Would you prefer that we get going as soon as I can rustle up something in my brain, or that we restart on a set date, or...that we leave this as she lies?

All I can do right now is be honest about where I'm coming from, so I hope you guys can tell me what you think, too.
