Whenever you feel ready, Nim! I'm working on some stuff myself right now, so I know how you feel. ASoIaF also sucked me in, so I'm reading like crazy.

I'm always ready to jump back in. I have plenty of free time up until the Witcher 3 is released, at which point I may end up camping next to my computer surrounded by packets of trail mix. Odds on that are about even. Still, I can always find time to write.

Aah, thanks for being so understanding, guys! And if anyone else needs a break for a while, I can oblige that too...

My absolute deadline for posting the new scene will be the Sunday after next...but I'll aim to get it up before then.

...I am so sorry, you guys. I have been busy and there’s been some stuff going on in my life, but mostly I just built up this massive mental block about posting. I must have sat down like five times and written a single sentence, then deleted it. But facing the choice between posting something crappy or running away and hiding under a rock forever… I really want to continue this rp, and I’m gonna do it. It’s happening. If you’re still with me, that’s awesome. If not, I totally understand!

In this next scene, the party’ll face a pack of gytrashes--the Black Dog of Welsh/English mythology--which will have the power to induce frightening hallucinations so they can pick off their prey. They’ll hit as the party is split between hunting and camp… and if somebody wanted to go off and chop firewood, they might be the first victim.

After they’ve handled that--and some campfire social time, of course--I was thinking that there would be a timeskip of a week or two, to get them farther north-west, and then they’ll run straight into rogue Yvalhyn raiders. The aftermath of that, I think, will get them to the end of Part One. Part Two will start up in the mountains.

Let me know what you guys think, if this is an okay time to start up again, and if you have any story ideas to add.

Sounds like an awesome plan. I'll post when I can tomorrow -- it's getting to be bedtime over here.

Great timing! I only just finished my playthrough of the Witcher 3 and I suddenly find myself with free time once again.

What's the nature of the gytrashes hallucinations? Are they simple scary projections, scary projections coupled with activating fear portions of the brain (thus guaranteeing a certain base level of panic), or do they magically act upon ingrained fears of the individual (and if so, to what extent)?

I'm glad my pacing works for SOMEone, because it sure doesn't work for me. :p

I think it'd be a little bit of both--think of it like triggering a waking nightmare. The hallucination will take cues from the environment, so it won't be a dissociated vision of the character's worst fear, but rather a terrible thing that could happen right here, right now. Maybe it's scary in general, maybe it's a character-specific fear. You guys can really have free reign with this, so whatever sounds best to you as a writer!

...I'm not sure if that actually answered your question.

Heh, I feel kind of bad for not posting in awhile...but hey, Black Dogs! An awesome bit of mythology that's often overlooked. This should be fun, although I don't really know yet what either of my characters would hallucinate. I have an idea for Einan...

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody's hallucinations, it's definitely a situation designed for fun rping. :) I'm sorry I haven't gotten a post up yet, but I honestly haven't had the time--I'm in the middle of a last-minute round of apartment tours and applications. The place I was sort of counting on fell through, but we've ended up with a comparable place for like $150 a month less, so... pays to shop around. I've started my post for the next bit, though, and I'll have it up tomorrow evening.

Addison planted the thought, but I'll let the GM post reveal whether the bucks lead the hunters anywhere or not. If they don't move, Addison shoots.

And of course, the party may not end up with venison at all if the Black Dogs interrupt while Addy's looking for bigger game!

Well, Bendalitz has begun his encounter with the gytrash. And by the way, I'm thinking he would, by pure chance, have ended up fleeing in the direction of the hunters.

Loke, having never seen a horror movie, has not only abandoned the camp but it is running away from everyone. Of course, if this was a horror movie he'd be doomed. The competent, experienced and athletic veteran always dies so that the monster looks more impressive by comparison. Bendalitz and Farrun can fight over being the Token Black Guy who dies first.

Of course, the gytrash played to Troia's emotions. Poor kid. Now what will Einan see? Bwahahaha....

Ahaha I love all of these! XD Having Bendalitz be mentally betrayed by Thoros himself is a great idea. And oh yes, I'm happy that everybody's scattering. Somebody's gonna end up in a bog...

I'll post tonight and have the rest of the gytrashes close in, and get to the hunters.

PS I'd think that Farrun, as both black guy and jock, would definitely get knocked off first...

The question does come up of how on earth our heroes are going to manage to prevail against the gytrashes. Would it be some kind of force of will scenario? Or would something else snap each of them out of it?
