I was curious as to Baldhart's ability to lunge and grab a downed enemy from five feet away in sudden darkness. It's actually not that hard. I tried from distances of 5-10 feet by closing my eyes and grabbing my intended target.

I think she has a decent chance of getting to her target. Hopefully, she has a good chance of not getting hit herself, since she'll be lying down, and she'll have the caster on top of her. Just speculating here—and assuming the drow are also blind.

Hey guys. Update coming before long. Was tied up all day yesterday because my dad is back in the hospital. Third time since December 1 :/

I had to run out while in the middle of Nissa's post, so I added a message to archers that I thought of as soon as I sat down in the car.

@Philster, since you don't know… you can fire an arrow as a "readied action." You post the condition for firing. Example: roll the hit/damage as you did before, then post that you only fire if the darkness goes away. Nissa's referring to the drow who raised his hand. She's pretty sure he didn't cast a spell, but used an item. (The spell was cast on the item earlier, she suspects.)

It's not to say the taunt did nothing. Noise is helping, since the drow are used to the darkness, yet they're not hitting anything or finding anyone.

Odds are, they expected us to shit our pants and run when darkness was cast. They certainly didn't expect that we know how (normal) darkness spells work, hence Nissa's bold attempt to tell the drow she knows exactly how the spell worked.

However, a taunt won't make anyone act out of character. Some enemies might be easily provoked, but my guess is that the drow are calm and think highly of themselves. Taunting might just make them think we're uncivilized.

Rolz hates my characters. >_< That's twice now Cadell has missed his target. (Technically the second arrow is still readied and hasn't been fired, but he still rolled waaay too low to hit.) Liadan may do better this time, possibly with help from a flank-attack bonus. That's up to Steerpike to clarify which way the drow is facing.

Well, if it stays dark, I think you get to re-roll the readied action… and maybe if you don't re-roll (Liadan's), you get a bonus for taking time (more than one turn) to aim.

Just speculation.

Glad to see the drow are blind!

Yes, it doesn't appear as though the drow see any better in this particular darkness than the rest of you. The drow are highly intelligent, though, and well-disciplined, so it isn't going to be easy to taunt them into foolish actions or, particularly, to disobey commands.

For people with readied actions, should I assume that if a drow becomes visible before the darkness fades, you fire?

Also if I use detect evil will it help me know where drows are even in darkness or, to put it simpler how does detect evil work?

According to what's posted on the class thread, it sounds like a line of sight skill that involves focusing on a person. But I don't have the full rule book. My guess is that the paladin wouldn't have a "spidey sense" that lets him locate all of the evils in the room. (Which might be a good thing. "Hey, guys! I sense one more evil to the west… look out, Aliron!!!")

I could see the paladin hearing movement coming toward the edge of the dark, and focusing on those footfalls so he knows if whoever's coming has evil alignment. (I'm not sure if that would be advantageous in any way. Since the readied action lets you shoot first, I believe, I suppose not.)

  • Detect Evil. The Paladin can detect evil as an innate ability. The Paladin simply concentrates on a person or creature within 60 feet.
  • Divine Aura. The Paladin receives a +2 bonus to AC and +2 bonus to all saves against evil creatures.

Bright side: I'm pretty sure enemies who eat child flesh are evil, so the AC bonus will protect the paladin.

What god does Zoran follow, anyway?
