I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty happy with that rain effect. I thought the most powerful lightning spell should start a storm, so that effect was done on a whim. I wasn't planning for rain.

There are calligraphy brushes that make diagonal lines. The max size is almost the full height of my map. There's a "grass" brush which is used to make all of the little splashes. I have that on a separate layer in case I missed some spots and want to correct that. The water is 33% opaque.

More FX to come before we bring this episode to an end.

I would hate to be a weather man in this world...probably any maical world.

"There is a 20% chance of rain today...ah &%$# someone just cast lightning storm, chance of rain 100 percent in a 3 mile area. Winds will be mostly calm for most of the afternoon...I hate wizards! Gail force winds expected in the area of Mage hollow!"

About the mermaid taking her sweet time…

I'd like to keep everything on the ship so Phil can have PJ react to his victory. In fact, he saw the rolls before hand and was pretty sure he had lost the battle. I told him it was close and I wasn't sure, and I really wasn't until I started playing it out turn-by-turn. The pirate had better rolls, but they were wasted trying to escape PJ's choke hold. Considering a 20 was needed, I was surprised he escaped at all.

Had the first roll been a 9 like I thought it was (the 17 wasn't visible when I logged onto Rolz, but the other rolls were), the pirate would've won.

I was going to keep the battle going until Wednesday, but I had a feeling Ireth and others might prefer to RP with the captain a bit. Let's just assume that PJ's a little winded, a little wounded, hence his lack of funny one-liners. I don't want to put words in Phil's character's mouth.

In case it's hard to keep track, after the tiny demoness sings, everyone gains 1 heart of health. The demoness is down 1 heart.

PS- If you compare her health to Mariya's, you can probably guess how much health the other bosses have.

In case I seem unusually active today, there's a snow storm. The RP'ing earned the party an unexpected ally. By 'unexpected' I mean I didn't expect her to join the party. Even when Muziko found out Vincent was a mind reader, her intent was to give him the spell so she could safely flee. Prior to the RP, she was just going to heal the enemies once, then flee upon discovering how the spell hurts her.

It was fortunate I had time to deal with this new 'sidekick' NPC, since she knows more plot stuff than the Hyena was able to reveal.

I'm glad I chose to have Vincent accept her offer! Looks like he's earned himself a sidekick, like Diana has Beatrice. Or would Muziko be co-sidekick with Reaver and Diana too, since they said they'd protect her as well? Then again, maybe she's the group mascot. A symbol of rebellion against darkness in spite of the consequences. I like that idea.

Well, she'll work with Vincent for this battle. She'll sing the healing song with him, so no HP is lost. Mariya can learn the spell later. If all three sing in the same turn, even the singers gain health.

It takes 5 turns for the note to turn black again.

You should be glad you spoke to her in the first place. I found myself asking how a tiny, harmless demon would react, and now here we are with our first healing spell. (The water song is a revival spell, the difference being that revival only works on someone with zero HP.)

One should never pass up the opportunity to find out more. :3 I feel like that should be Vincent's motto. He is a smart guy, after all. And he self-admittedly doesn't know everything, so there's always room to grow. ^^

Thanks to Mariya's high roll, no one got hit. I had already figured out how many hearts to take from PJ, Reaver and Diana (the PJ demon would have combo'd to hit two targets), but… nope. Thunder prevented those attacks!

They were rolled, so for fun, I mentioned them in the GM post to emphasize what Mariya's spell saved you from.

And the one demon(ess) her thunderbolt couldn't reach missed!

If everyone posts today, I'll update tonight. So far, the PJ demon's taking quite a beating.

Friday is a holiday, so I definitely want a GM turn to come up on that day (though I can always have my Valentine's Day post come up mid-turn so there's no pressure). The stun effect decreases defense considerably, so that will be factored in if you attack the captain or Evil PJ.

Demon Cap'n
8 to hit you (14 to get past Diana's shield or hit a pixie)
14 to hit him (11 for PJ or a samurai's katana)
8 to hit him while he's stunned (5 for PJ and the samurai)

Evil PJ
8 to hit you (14 to get past Diana's shield or hit a pixie)
11 to hit him (8 for PJ or a samurai's katana)
5 to hit him while he's stunned (2 for PJ and the samurai)

Evil Fenella
11 to hit you (17 to get past Diana's shield or hit a pixie)
11 to hit her (8 for PJ or a samurai's katana)
She's not stunned, but if she were, her defense is the same as Evil Pj's

NOTE: Diana's shield only works against the first opponent to strike her. If she's surrounded, I have the shield block the enemy in front of her. Otherwise, who attacked her first is based on proximity, or who rolled first if both enemies are just as close.

The Making of Flat Earth

If you're curious about how I keep track of enemy health, I'll give that away. I think you can click the image to zoom, but anyway, the number near the enemy's name is the enemy's HP. Every time you hurt an enemy, I reduce his HP and add an effect, if applicable. The brown, cat-shaped lasso tool that's highlighted on the left makes cracks, with the help of glow effects. I just found a glow effect that works for Vincent charging fireworks.

And it just hit me—it's fortunate that I changed the name of Muziko's layer. It used to say "Evil Mariya," and if it still did you might suspect insincerity on her part.

For those who care, the color pallet is called "NES and Skin" because the top four rows are the actual NES pallet. There are 64 swatches but only 54 colors since some swatches are identical: two whites, two medium grays, and nine blacks. That's right, I said nine blacks even though you may have counted ten. The blackish square directly above the gray square is 98% gray. Why Nintendo bothered to create such a color is beyond me. You'd think they'd have cut Indistinguishable Off-Black for a more common color, like Regular Yellow.

I'll hold off until others post, but I just thought I'd show what the current turn looks like while I'm updating the map on my end.

Unless those who posted don't mind waiting, my thought is that I'll update tonight and I'll roll attacks for Fenella and Shan Mai if Ruby and Severin are unable to post in the next six hours.

Just so this isn't taken the wrong way, I want this game to be all in good fun, and not about pressuring players to hurry up and post. Once a map is up, the challenge level is based on how many characters are in the party, so I feel like in order to run the game fairly I should roll for those who didn't attack.

That said, please try to roll for your own characters within 48 hours of the GM post if you can. I feel a bit funny making decisions for a player's character, but I also am in the middle of a writing project and I just started a new job... so I get that there are much higher priorities even when you're online.

Hi, sorry. I just entered the dice room and rolled the dice. I only scored a 7 but has Mariya given Fenella extra powers with the lightning force to her sword? Can she kill the evil princess demon?

She's tough (just like the real Fenella), but thanks to Mariya that 7 will still do some damage even though the sword itself won't hit the demoness.

Posting soon, but thanks for getting your own attack in!

Gaaah... *scowls at Vincent's latest roll* Not quite the grand finale I was hoping for! I wonder if it's safe to charge again... I really want Vincent to be able to take out the demon who now has his body. Could I roll again just to see if it would succeed, and save it for the next GM post whether it does or not?

As long as you understand the risk, yes you may.

The risk is that if you roll 5 or less, NUKE is cast. That's -16 HP to everyone onscreen. That drops both muses, Reaver, PJ, Vincent and anyone else with 4 hearts or less.

If you succeed, you can cast something less dangerous.

((For the record, I had anticipated this risk and planned NPC moves accordingly.))
