Liadan will have to heal him next round, since she took two attempts to get him this round. The spell doesn't take long to cast, but does take a few seconds. But his final HP doesn't tick off until the end of the round, so she will be able to act before he dies.

I guess Baldy will roll STR next turn then. (And Cadell, Keit, hang on for dear life when she does!)

Oh… and if SP's letting Cadell exalt again, he should sing THE TIMING SONG!

Ah, good. ^^

*hopes nothing happens before Liadan gets the chance to heal him... like, say, someone failing a STR check and dropping Batos and/or Liadan into the sea!*

EDIT: On that note... grabbing Batos with DEX is one thing, but lifting him with STR is another. If I try to lift him and fail, would that nullify my chance of healing him? Or should I heal first, lift second, just in case?

Or a fish demon rising up out of the water to grab them both.

Or Baldhart hitting Liadan's head on a rock in the middle of her spell, while trying to drag the rope back up :D

No check needed given the number of people holding onto the rope. You won't have any trouble holding Liadan there, or hauling her and Batos back up, for that matter.

What?! You mean I wasted my once-ever use of the million-sided die from Brynhild?

Um, okay... why is Mauve jumping off the cliff? Does she plan on turning into a fish-demon and eating the evil ones? I hope that won't cause trouble for the others, especially those in or near the water...

If Baldhart could go back in time and rewrite her prayer, she'd change "evil wizard" to "insane wizard." What is that silly Mauve up to now? Guess I'll know in six seconds (a.k.a. tomorrow).

On first read, I actually thought the "evil wizard" bit was referring to Aldar. ^^;

. . . So, I think Matthew will be returning soon ((I still haven't received a reply to the PM I sent to Steerpike days ago)) So I'll share some brief insights from how catching up on months of Dragon's Egg in about a week works.

-You realize how different time passes for us vs our characters. Seriously, I was gone half a year and the time that's passed is . . . less than two days! How is that possible?

-Because of the above we forget things we shouldn't have. Do you know how aggravating it is to see Baldhart hear about Tommen, Dalla, and letters and not immediately make the connection with the letters found in the tunnels? Come on! It was only a insignicat piece of knowledge, metioned in three posts, 200 pages back, but I remember it perfectly and so should Baldhart. You notice a lot of this when you read it all at about the same pace the characters experienced it at.

Anyway now that I have some knowledge most of you likely don't remember here's a quick "Did you know" list to refresh the Memory of some things. You may remember some but I doubt any of you remember all of them.

-Matthew recruited Aliron and Mauve originally joined because Matthew took her prisoner.
-Baldhart made a vow never to speak to a party member in anger . . . sorry Baldhart you blew it there.
-There was an agreement that Burnbright would receive religious training from Matthew.
-Mauves first act in the game was attacking the Party.
-Matthew was among the first one to attack during the “Wolf Tickler” incident and shared the last kill.
-When we rescued the Dwarves there were three dwarves, one of which died in battle, the other went home.
-Aliron was not part of the original group and did not fight fish demons in the first battle ((I’ve seen mentions of both in the main thread))
-Muave made most of the party agree to her conditions of joining.
"As some of you know, I intended to leave this group for reasons I do not need to point out. Do you want my aid? Fine. But I have conditions," I say in a tranquil voice.

"I am free to leave whenever I want and no one is entitled to take this decision for me. You will not attempt to hold me, imprison me, threat me, hurt me. You will not lay a single finger on me without my consent, if you dare I will fight back and I might not hold myself." I glance at the bloody ranger, gazing then at the others as I speak.

"You are not entitled to interrogate me, I have the right to withhold any personal information I wish. You will not try to intimidate, control or coerce me. You will not cause me harm in any way; You are bound to keep my magic a secret, you will not, under any circumstance, reveal I am a spellcaster to anyone," I smirk, adding, "If I get killed as result of your actions I swear I will return from the Death to haunt you and exact revenge."

I sit straighter, feeling the power running in my veins. I was so afraid and lost. Not anymore.

"You will not blame me if you get hurt by my magic. I will warn or seek distance before casting, but I will not be held responsible for your actions if you decide it is a good idea to get in the way. You will not force me to use my magic neither hold grudge when I refuse a request; I, and only I, will decide when it is sensible to use it or not. I have also the right to refuse to follow any battle strategy and formation I deem foolish."

I pause.

"You will never attempt to put me out of my misery if you think I am corrupted or mad. You have no rights over my life nor to end it unless I am really serious about killing you.

"You will respect me. You will hear my advices and truly consider it, putting aside your prejudices. Also, you will not use the corruption as an excuse to berate my input on any subject. As long you are not harming me I do not care if you are not treating me as a lady. You do not need to befriend me. But you will hear me. And consider my words. If you do not, I don't see any reason at all to be around.

"You will stop bickering at each other, just like now. You will not be excessively egoistical at the point of consciously endangering the others, you will be a group and act as one.

"And... I exchange I will aid you in your quest. I will fight our way out of harm. I will protect Burnbright as I have been doing so far. I will look for solutions. I will seek knowledge and share it—" I tap one of my fingers on the staff twice. "—starting by this. Does it sound reasonable?"
-Not long before this she was attacked by Ankari
-When Matthew didn't fight in the fourth battle he had been ordered to stay back with Burnbright.

That all for now. Perhaps some of you should consider rereading the whole game too. Note that this is very time consuming. Anyway hopefully I'll rejoin soon, and if my plans are approved by Steerpike ((I haven't even sent the idea to him yet)) then my character should meet with the party again in a few in-game hours, which should end up being a month or two for us. ;)

Edit: Wow, this post was ninja'd four times, that's the problem with long posts.

If you mean her shouting match with Mauve, Baldhart stopped considering Mauve an ally the moment she refused to help or even consider it. She was on the fence when Mauve used magic to sneak Ankari to safety when Baldy was about to charge him.

(I'm glad Mauve did that. Baldhart is not.)

Baldhart doesn't even see herself in a party, so much as traveling with a bunch of individuals with conflicting agendas. That said, the vow was not to speak in anger at an ally (that's what I intended—not sure what I typed). So party member or not doesn't matter. She needs to mind her manners with militia men as well, even if she knows about the warding sign one made at the site of Nissa.

I forgot about that first battle.

Mauves first action was to injure herself wasn't it? Or did she make the save? (failed magic)

Looking forward to your return:
"If we must fight in daylight, its best to have a knight to join in, and our knight has fallen into royal darkness."

I don't remember when Mathew Bladehawk left. Was it in the tunnels?

Of course Aliron feels similar to Baldhart, traveling with individuals with the same objectives but so many different beliefs on how to get there. Distrust for all, but only three does he even considers friends. Bressel, Baldhart and Mauve. Both saved his life.(Possibly all three, but Bressel was in a different story)

I don't know. Generally prayers don't have much of an in-game effect, unless it is something like a Cleric using a spell or a player using a class ability. In extraordinary situations I'll throw in a +2 modifier on behalf of a character that is particularly devout (and Baldhart has been a consistently devout advocate for Brynhild). Throwing another +2 on top of it isn't likely here, even with Liadan praying. If you like you could consider the +2 a cumulative bonus for the prayers. If Cadell were to use his ability again, that would stack.
Aliron doesn't need a bonus, consistantly when Aliron asks for blessing on his arrows, they usually hit afterwoods. I think the blessing failed once out of four times.
Maybe he should ask blessing on his blades?

Actually, she was trying to hide from them, but kept failing in her spells and the flash of light gave her away. She hurt herself in the process, indeed. In the end she was cornered in the cellar and tried to kick a barrel on Rydh. Naturally, the kick was good but she somehow failed and ended with her foot stuck. :D

I remember those events fairly well, and what came after. I also try to keep notes, so I don't need to dig through hundreds of pages in search of something. I didn't kept a note of Mauve's conditions, however, and didn't remember how well she covered all her bases.

He stayed behind at the temple with the children of Skilrind. I've planned to have a runner come to Matthew saying his presence was requested for a trial ((That being the one about whether to burn Branwen or not, there were several mentions of bringing Matthew for that)) and thus with my calculations, arriving back at the group sometime early morning. It is, of course, up to Steerpike to decide if that works.

@Legendary Sidekick: My mistake, it was "Ally". But even then it seems that Baldhart talks to a lot of her allies harshly, even if 'ally' was somewhat questionable at the time. Maybe I misread it though
