@Sensei, three things…

1) Your roll is maybe a little low (or too high?). You need to add level (1d20+1) and also add your modifier unless WIS is in the 9-12 range.

2) If WIS is not a prime, Baldhart's roll is better than yours, so… g'nite, Hall!

3) Hall just got as close as any man ever will to 'sleeping with Baldhart.'

Hall's WIS is both average (9) and non-prime, so his roll looks good to me. I should know, since I helped him create his character stats. :)

Still, +1 for the level. When you have a non-prime, every point counts. It's the difference between a 10% chance of success vs. 15% (for level 1 challenges).

Yeah, now I remember why I was so sure you added difficulty to WIS checks. At Lv.1, Baldhart needed a natural 20 just to get a roll of 19. I remember finding it funny to roll against the holding spell, then thought, well… technically, I do have a chance.

Yeah I had to double check, but all of my info is on an excel file... which back at the house (at work you see). So it took me a while to remember the finer details.

And WIS isn't a prime for me...damn hindsight.

No one starts at level zero. We don't even have rules for that :)

Traveling today. Will post later, but I'm keeping track via phone. Also, I thought we established Batos found Ankari.

I did, he made it back to keit. Ankari can say what he likes about the exchange, but here's the letter again:

Dear Ankari,

As promised, I passed your message to our party without it being tainted by my opinion. In fact, Cadell thought I agreed with the message. However, I was not the only one in our party who cannot trust the gnolls' intentions.

Cadell and Liadan favored peace. Aliron and Bressel did not trust the gnolls to go into an abandoned town, and could only assume they meant to burn Arendal without the bother of resistance. They also suspected they remain loyal to Aslaug despite their words. Keitsumah, like myself, cannot forgive the murder of children. Aldar also favors battle, making the party's vote 5 to 3 in favor of defending Arendal against the gnolls. (Mauve's position is unclear, but her vote would not overturn the party's decision. Your vote is counted among the three in favor of peace with the gnolls.)

Only Grim and Gisla were present to speak on behalf of Srilkind and Arendal, but I believe the elders share their sentiment that the gnolls who attacked Srilkind have committed an atrocity that no peace treaty can amend.

Aliron and I discussed our options, and we both trust you to follow the majority of the party, as we cannot protect Catli if we are divided. I trust this message has reached you, and you will use your skills to let us know where the attack is coming from.

I suggest you find a way to help without making your presence apparent to either side. The battle may become complicated, and ultimately, this will endanger the children—those of Arendal as well as those with us.

There is one offer I can make to avoid unnecessary violence, that is, if the gnolls would not attack Arendal knowing they cannot capture Catli:

If Ghendra is willing to step ahead of his army, I will present him with evidence that Catli can no longer be tracked from afar by magic. He must be unarmed (with neither shield nor sheathed weapon) and more than 100 feet ahead of his army or any cover of trees if he wishes to meet before battle. It must be Ghendra for this evidence to be handed over. I know his face though he does not know mine. Since you will meet him, feel free to tell him that I will come to him unarmed, and 100 feet ahead of our army, bearing this evidence if he is interested. If wishes to hide behind his army like the baby-killing coward that he is, he may attempt to receive this evidence by prying it from my cold, dead fingers.

OXOX,
Baldhart

PS - Thank you for delivering the berries to Mauve. I don't actually have a means of knowing that you did this. It must be my blind faith.

I thought it was established that he made it to Ankari and back, which is why he's in town howling.

Whether the howl is effective as an 'Intimidate' or an alarm clock, whether it's necessary or possible to channel magic into the howl, whether the howl sounds like one voice or echoes as many—all that remains to be seen. But we hear him! (Some of us hear him in a dream.)

Intimidate. that's as close as i can imagine it actually being. plus the volume of the sound would aim to wake everyone up and warn the others in the village, hence the magic to make his voice stronger. Wolves can naturally make themselves sound as if there are more of them, so i just went off of that.

Plus, if the wargs/gnolls hear it and had sent the demons.... well they'll realize they pissed off the wrong half-blood!:D

So, let me get this straight, Baldy is partially dressed with the new guy, both sleeping on the stairs?
What are the neighbors going to say?
