I have to ask, who left the bait on the dock?
No you've attracked a mess of fishys.

everyone ignore Bressel talking to the wolf that isn't there. I forgot he had messinger duty after digging the holes.

New new rule. If we need to take a bath...we use an enclosed space. And especially not before we're awaiting a battle.

Just saying.

About moving in battle - you can only move six spaces at a time. That may be a level or two on stairs -- I think if you need to move 3 squares across the stairs, it means you can move 2 levels per turn? Best bet: just say you're going up/down and SP will likely have us move maximum distance or more.

For Aldar, he can go look for a torch, but unless he's 15 feet from a torch, he can't grab the torch and get back to his point of origin in a single turn.

I predict the chase will go all the way up the stairs, since other players off the map are God-knows-how-far. But it seems Hall and Baldhart are in agreement not to stupidly make a stand where no ally can help for a very long time. - So no worries! You won't miss out on action! (You won't see the naked barbarian either, since I'll dress her next turn now that I know I can without getting hurt. Win-win?)

I don't care if the militia helps. I just hope they see the battle. Might be good for morale. (Let's not get our butts kicked - that's NOT good for morale.)

EDIT - 8 levels? This is good. More time for other players to get in the fight! Since Baldy and Hall are going up (as fast as possible, I'd think), we'll find out how many levels we can go up per move.

5 levels of stairs total. You guys started the round on the second level.

@SomethingToPonder: In your previous post you wrote that you ran all the way down to the "beach," which would put you on level 1 (though it is actually just docks and some rocks, not so much a beach). Since Baldhart was already on her way up, I just had you stop at level 2 when you encountered her.

(What if I wanted to see the naked barbarian! Aldar is 1003, It's been a while since he has seen a naked person! XD)

I had a quick glance at the map a few pages back, and It looked as if the road or path leads directly to the stairs. Also houses dont look to far away although im not sure about the scale of the map.

I thought I could manage it, If not no worries.

so around 30 t per turn, ok no probs.

Ok ,no problem SP, level 2. should I edit my post?

The path and the buildings aren't far from the top of the stairs, but you guys are one level from the bottom, from the docks themselves, and three levels from the top. So that's a ways to run. You can edit if you want or I'll just include it in my post when I make a response later today. No big deal :)

Oh... I don't know why I thought Aldar was higher. Maybe it's the avatar with psychadelic shades of green and purple emitted from his pipe.

Anyway, the 1003 year old elf may want to go another century or two without seeing a naked person after seeing Baldhart. Between the height, muscle mass, and painted face and limbs... I don't know how he'll handle the sight. The 'you two could handle THAT' was funny stuff.

STEALTH EDIT - Ninja'd. I'm picturing my grandmother saying, "that damn cat!"

Remember if we burn the stairs we cant escape by boat, which I have a feeling was the idea.
It's good to have an "easy" battle, so new players can get a feel for the system.

One thing to get used to fast -- plans may change as events unfold. I'll have Baldy explain the use of the torch in-game, but she could do one of three things with it:

1) Get Nissa - though I believe Baldy's at 0 HP now, so that ain't happening
2) Light an oil bomb - which may be a last resort, since the people of Arendal may fail to see the genius of burning the stairwell at both ends - or just the bottom so fish-demons can't go back
3) A back up plan - see above

As for retreating to the sea... retreat is difficult in this combat system. You're likely to retreat when health is low, but you need to survive the free hit you get if running when engaged. Now that we know of levels from cliff to boats, there's also the rain of crossbow bolts that would come down as you cross the docks. Naked Baldhart could swim under the dock. But, as we can see, escaping by sea is not our best contingency plan!

I have to remember not to read the sub forum before DEIII.
I thought Baldy was hit and down. When no blows have been hit yet.

Is that a full moon?
Oh, no just Baldy bending over to dress.

Good news, its still dark/nighttime, Aliron gets all bonuses for archery.

Dang it, was planning to bless several of my arrows before the fight. (for the new people, when I have blessed my arrows, the roll has always been good.)

Watch Bravehart. A guy gets shot in the bare ass with an arrow. How interesting is that battle for him?

He should have stopped mooning the Brits and raised his shield like the others.

(Baldhart looks down at the docks, where her borrowed shield lays next to her kilt. Woulda, coulda, shoulda…)

((Here is the map. The stairs actually have five switchbacks. Level 1 is sea level, level 5 is Arendal level. Right now, the PCs are on level 2, the fish demons below on level 1. If people start getting too spread out, I'll put numbers next to the avatars of anyone on the stairs.

Let me get some text up before you guys post)).
Two possible ways that I think make it easy to follow.

Either - as you said, numbers near (or overlapping) avatars.
Or - just a list under the map.

Example:

Stairs
5 - Aldar
4 -
3 - Baldy, Hall
2 - fish x2
1 - fish x1

In this case, two of the fish are up to level 2. The other four fish are on the ground level, but only one is on the stairs. Aliron is also on the map, but he's on the cliff which we know is level 5. Only those on the stairs need to be listed.

The only reason I'd suggest a list is that some avatars may overlap if directly above/below each other. I have a feeling all six fish will be on the stairs at once for one of the turns!
