I kinda like the idea of splitting XP between two characters, if that's even allowed. But that's up to Steerpike. :)

with your last in character quote,
Did anyone get Burnbright's crossbow? You could use that. She obviously never wants to shoot it again.

Oh yeah... I meant to ask about that. Could Nod use a full-size crossbow? It might be big for him, but if Baldy is piggybacking him, she can wear the quiver fulla bolts and Nod doesn't have to walk around with it. Would be nice for him to have a higher-damage weapon if being a halfling doesn't stop him.

You guys do realize that as long as the battle is fought with arrows and shield walls, Baldhart is a STEED... right?

Phietadix

Shadow Lord
@Phietadix The girl has some magic in her. She's the daughter of a priestess who had magic in her — and who is was involved in the temples massacres and seems to be behind the Taint — and granddaughter of a woman who was killed by these same people, taken for a witch. It only takes an information leak.

Well as eveyone who knows this, will not say it. She should be fine.

@.Legendary Sidekick. Burnbright also had a light crossbow. Not a full sized one

@Phietadix As Mauve said... Naive. xD

@Everyone If Mauve got no response from Ankari, she'll go with Burnbright instead.

Well, don't forget Steerpike said you can handle that RP stuff retro. I'd rather we don't lose a party member because Ankari (the person) is at work and can't post.

Maybe PM him as a reminder that Mauve was waiting for his character to apologize (if he doesn't check in anyway and see for himself). Then based on his response, Mauve is on a horse or we know about the staff.

@Phietadix, light is good! I'm sure a halfling can handle it (if Sir Matthew permits) and the damage is d8. Nod's hand crossbow does d4 damage. (Average of 4.5 vs average of 2.5!)

Oh, sorry if I sounded grumpy (had to type quickly >.<), it was just a reminder, for I'm bound to abandon them and take the staff with her in this case, so you don't consider her traveling with them yet. You're right, I'll PM him soon.

Paying it forward...

So, Sparkie gave me 5 rep points for guessing a movie/book reference.

I'll do the same for whoever guesses the movie reference I stopped myself from using in game (aside from not having Baldhart reassure Burnbright with an "I'll be back.")...

When Steerpike posted,
Damn those lizards
here is the response that popped into my head:

"Yes, sir. I damn thee."

Oh wait, is it The Jerk?

I went through every Monty Python movie in my head, thinking it had to be them, but I kept thinking...glasses...glasses...oh, Navin, you're a genius!

$1.09

(Car drives off cliff.)

"Cut."

Yeah! Been a while since I've seen that. Not that I'm rushing life, but that's on my list of movies to show my daughters when they get older.

...I hope I can, come to think of it. It might be one of the DVDs I bought when I lived in Hong Kong. Bah... it is, and so is Blue Brothers. I hate regional codes! But then, streaming will likely be commonplace by the time they can watch movies like that. Well, I guess it is commonplace, so I should probably say that will be the way I watch movies by then.

@Phil, a bard can use any bow. If Sir Matthew lets you use his light crossbow, its damage is much higher than that of Nod's hand crossbow (1-8 damage vs. 1-4 damage), and I'm confident that there's no penalty for using one instead of the other. It would be like giving Bladhart a hammer. She doesn't own one, but if it puts on more hurt than the sword, she'll use it--and keep the sword on her back!

Also, your trusty steed will carry those additional bolts in case we are to assume the more damaging bow uses different bolts. Maybe due to Nod's size, he only uses that bigger crossbow when he doesn't have to walk around with it.

But up to you... if that charge from last battle wasn't stopped by a line-of-sight spell, I think the image of Baldhart lifting an impaled enemy with her sword while Nod shoots him in the face with his hand-crossbow is comically badass!

I'm interested to see whether any enemy will take advantage of Cadell's long, loose hair as something to grab onto to get an advantage over him. XDD Lesson learned -- keep it tied back! (Though he'll need help with that... Baldhart, care to lend a hand? [pun intended])

Noo, don't give him evil ideas! (Mauve have a long, quite unkept hair)

It's funny, it's one of the things been thinking about lately... while a long hair is a disadvantage in a fight, a long and tied hair may be even worse when it comes to grabbing. Unless you attempt to clutch it near the root you can't really grab a handful of floating hair — acquiring a tight control over someone —, but you can get a really firm grasp on a braid, for example.

That's true. But the alternative is cutting it short, and Cadell would freak if anyone tried. Not because he's vain, but because that was part of how he was once tortured by orcs. (It grew back, of course, but still.)

EDIT: I suppose a braid might not be such a problem if he could bind it up around his head before battle and let it down again later... maybe he should look into that.

I laughed out loud at this, now I want to see someone trying it!

Well, that's true. I'm focusing in long hair not only for DE, it's the kind of knowledge useful for other areas including writing. The other obvious disadvantages of a long hair would be having it getting in your eyes/mouth and setting it on fire with a bad timing if you're a spellcaster. I never had long hair, but I'm sure that short hair also get in the eyes and mouth during inconvenient situations, so unless it's a pixie haircut the advantage isn't so big as some authors would like us to believe.

Oh, and yes, I've thought exactly of binding the braid, using a chignon and such solutions. Unfortunately it doesn't look so stylish as a beautiful, floating braid.
