Aaaand that's why I don't usually promise times. xD Sorry, not only did this take longer to write than I thought it would, I was distracted by a shopping trip with friends after work... Did you know Starbucks has a birthday cake frappuccino out and it's delicious and I might have diabetes now?

It was worth the wait. I hope I didn't make Addison's trap too effective. Her plan was to take out the whole table (area of effect), but what fun would that be if it actually worked?

You can credit Deep Purple for the term.

One thing I love about this game is I can make sure Addison gets kicked around a little. Sorry, Addy. It's what makes you so fun to write.

Now I wonder whether Rikhard will come up with a badass nickname for himself... or maybe someone will give him one. Addy, perhaps. ^^ Though that might depend on what he accomplishes in this endeavor, if anything. The troubles of playing non-combative characters with low self-esteem. XD

I do love writing a good fight scene. All that aggression and hitting stuff!

*shifts eyes*

Uh, I didn't say anything.

Nothing.

I swear.

Well, it was said that Bendalitz would try not to kill anyone. And he did warn that guy he needed to get a bandage, so yeah...

Hey, the guy Loke dropped on his head has about a 50/50 chance of walking away without permanent crippling injury or death. These things happen in a brawl, which is part of the reason they're not so much fun in real life.

Uh, if this guys knows Bendalitz is the Queen's Hound, would he really be attacking him? I think the general setup for this is that these yokels think they're teaching some arrogant strangers the rules of the town, not that they would really want to go into this trying to maim the Queen's Heroes.

If the barmaid told those guys about Bendalitz, they would also know about Farrun, and I specifically didn't want that to happen, because I think that realistically that would end the fight. I don't think it's necessary for all adversaries to be crazy and unreasonably murderous for them to provide opposition. They're not in enemy territory.

I don't know if it needs to be edited, but it'd be good to run that sort of thing by me? Changing the opponents' motivation and level of information, basically. (Well, that and Bendalitz sharing their names after Farrun's talk not an hour earlier about traveling in secret...) It's hard to orchestrate scenes if the circumstances keep shifting.

You know what, I am so sorry, and I'm also a massive idiot who wasn't thinking entirely properly. I forgot that most people in the bar wouldn't know who they were. The barmaids would, but Bendlaitz didn't have an opportunity to let anyone else know (and yes, it was intentional that he completely disregarded Farrun's talk about travelling in secret).

To fix this all it would take would be some minor dialogue changes to my most recent post. A deletion of the whole Queen's hound losing his bite and being a poncy scholar bit, along with the deletion of Bendalitz's later line "lost my bite?" and a slight alteration of the following line to just "Probably a wise idea for you to get a bandage on that."

I made the edits as stated above.

Also, I figured Addison's display of lighting might make those who saw it hesitant to attack. The man with the fly in his drink is either backing down because he lost interest after the blatant display of magic, or he's simply dying not to get zapped and is bent on vengeance. I figure a GM post can go either way with that.

Addison's intent is to get the barmaid off the floor before she gets trampled. That's something she'd have wanted to do in the first place, but that would only have been possible if she was able to zap everyone in her shock trap. (And if it worked that well, what a boring brawl it would have been.)

Ah, it's no problem, as long as we're on the same page now! Thanks for making the edits, though.

You can do whatever you want with fly-drinking guy, LS, or perhaps we shall never know his motives... I'm planning on bringing an end to the fight (via the innkeeper) in my next post, so youse know.

OK. I was under the impression (using the GM post as an example) that we'd have one post to get our shots in, so I figured the guy with the fly in his drink would probably just stand and hold his drink.

Motives? He's one that Addison pegged as the "alpha" but—if she's right about that part—maybe he's all talk, or when he sees how half his boys were zapped and the other half beaten, he backs down. It would be pretty foolish to charge into the fray at this point.

Not sure if I should have Rikhard join in the fighting or not. It wouldn't quite be in character for him to be all up in the thick of things. I was expecting someone to maybe take a swing at him to get him involved at least in defense, but if that doesn't happen I'm okay with it too. I think Rikhard would prefer not to get his hands dirty in any case.

I think there's nothing wrong with him staying out of it, if that's his character. If it were a die-rolling game and the consequence of ducking under the table was potentially player-deaths… well, then I'd say something.

Since this is a game where we have characters at various levels of experience, and we're simply writing their story, it actually works better when the posts are considering the character's limits. Troia got her hit against a near KO'd guy, Einan hurt his hand. Loke and Farrun didn't get kicked around as much as Addy and Ben, who each resorted to cheap tricks. I felt like all the posts were believable regarding how each character could come out on top.

I could see Rikhard as having this potential that will come out when it's needed. It doesn't have to happen in the first battle (if you don't want it to). Nothing wrong with him—given his low self-esteem—feeling useless when he's the only one not to retaliate, and that could turn to something positive such as taking his training much more seriously.

I was mainly hoping for someone to engage Rikhard so he could go into his usual standby of dodging blows rather than striking back at an enemy, and wearing said enemy out while Rikhard just kinda weaves around them. It helps that the enemies are probably much drunker than Rikhard, who hasn't even finished his first ale yet.

Ohoho, I was thinking that the barmaid would have a sprained ankle, so, you know, a healer's touch and all. ;)

I just realized that Troia has an uncanny resemblance to Samantha Barks, who played Eponine in the Les Mis film. Right down to the widow's peak. How's that for a coincidence?
