Ysgard RP Discussion Thread

Einan and Troia are so cute! And they're pretty recognizable, which is cool. :)

Hey everyone, sorry I'm not keeping up the pace. Finals are in like two weeks, and I've got a ton of stuff due. Once that's all out of the way, I'll be more than happy to take up a more active part in Ysgard again.

Oh, wow, that's right. It's easy to forget when finals are when you're out of school, heh.

I take it you're okay with having Troia sort of bundled along by the bandits, then? I won't injure her or anything--if she's been restrained already, she's much less likely to get hurt right now than the feisty ones are.

I think there's a bit of distress going around at the moment, I wouldn't worry. ^^

This post is taking me longer to write than anticipated, so it looks like I'll have it up tomorrow instead. Sorry bout that, but I'd like to do it properly!

Really not sure why that took me so long, but anyhow. Please let me know if there's anything objectionable about the way I've moved your characters around...but yeah, shit's escalated.

A couple notes:

- Ireth, LS, & Tom, feel free to decide if your characters have sustained additional physical injuries besides the ones I gave Rikhard and Addy.

- Speaking of, Addison has been hit by a very common (ie. military-issue) Yvalhyn poison, which causes paralysis and spasming, followed by heart failure. I'm not going to be too specific about how long it takes to kill you just in case the character timing doesn't work out, but suffice to say that she has some time before complete unconsciousness, and a little more before her heart gives out.

Fun times! Let me know if you guys need more info.

Edit: Oh, and it might be a good time for Einan's elf hearing to give them at the campsite a little more information...?

Uh... wait... how in the heck is Addy supposed to survive that? Does anyone magically happen to have an antidote to Yvalhyn poison on their person? If not, I think that was going a bit far. :/

Well, I've conferred with AG about Chris being able to prepare an antidote, and use healing potions (and healing magic, if Farrun gets there soon) to keep her alive until that can happen. Depending on how this plays out, I'd be up for the idea that the party has the antidote, or the ingredients for it, among their healing supplies.

Okay, actually... I'm kind of rethinking this. Reading over that last post (which I've now deleted), it seems like I've taken this a bit far. I don't think it's really necessary for Troia and Rikhard to be taken away, or for Addison to be fatally poisoned instead of just badly wounded. Or not so badly, even.

The point of this plot was always to get the party indebted to Chris--hence the poisoning. But a particularly impressive dragon illusion is a good way to do it too.

You guys want to discuss it? Do you think it's best to have the bandits scatter without getting prisoners, or do you want to continue in a more dire vein?

(PS, Ireth, it might work best if you delete your post as well, until we decide on a plan?)

Okay, haha. Thanks for hanging with me. I was definitely a little overeager to raise the tension in this encounter, but the fact of the matter is that there are bigger, badder threats out there, and there are a few aspects of this that it might be good to save for later.

I'll work on a new post, and hopefully I can get that done tonight.

@Nimue, I'll just keep things going here rather than via PM...

My thought is: if the purpose is just to get Chris into the party, there's nothing wrong with a victory that came easy thanks to (1) underestimating a wyvernslayer and (2) scary illusions. I also think this battle accomplished two things: (1) Rikhard was brave and (2) Addison just killed a man, and two more.

If this were a novel, I'd say leave the get-their-butts-kicked for another day.

Another thing is this: it isn't a win if the bandits get away. Not to Addison, but maybe to the others. So when you think of it, it gives the characters a lot to think about. And they intended to sell our characters, so to who? I think there's a bit of mystery here.

Yeah, I was all for the bing injury, but maybe another time.

And I'd have to agree. Stop getting impatient, Nim, and think about the narrative arc!

I did want them to find out more about the bandit's motivations, through what Rikhard and Troia would overhear when they're captured, but we'll keep that somewhat in the dark as of now. At face value, they wanted that gold and them fine horses. ^^

I think if the bandits scatter, even a seasoned huntress on an adrenaline rush would get one or none. And come to think of it, Addy has no idea of the state of her friends, so she might not chase if she's unscathed and has the only healing potion.

So maybe the simplest way is, three dead, scary dragon, they run. GM call if we can try to make a shock trap victim talk. (Or the shock wore off and he ran if you'd rather not.)

I was thinking if the bandits were still unconscious and not dead we could tie them up and question them (maybe get some of that info captives were supposed to overhear back at bandit camp). Or stick them like pigs depending on the bloodthirstiness of the group.

Beep beep. Hope this works better. I'm up for leaving the lightning-strike victim unconscious in the clearing, just for the fun of getting the group to figure out what to do with him.

Well, I'll chalk this up to really needing to shake the rust off and get GMing again. Doesn't it say somewhere in the guidelines "Go with the flow even if you've thought up some stuff"? Who wrote that?!

@Akamaru: Ari is Troia's dog, and the one with the hurt leg. Rikhard is a man, who is injured in other ways.
