Sounds like you had a better weekend than I did. Ugh, my friend's little brother was horrible. At one point in the evening, his younger sister dropped an ice cube down his back and he yelled "What the f***?!!" He proceeded to say it several more times, and his sister starting repeating it. I barely got him in check.

On the bright side, after the two younger ones went to bed, my friend and I watched Mazerunner, which I hadn't seen until then.

Yes, my Saturday was lovely. ^^ And I was THIS close to catching the bouquet, but the woman beside me got it. XD I had a fistful of flowers, which doesn't really count.

I haven't seen Mazerunner either. How is it?

It's very good. I had myself set up to dislike it, thinking "oh, it's just another dime-a-dozen dystopian story riding on the Hunger Games' fame", but I actually enjoyed it a lot.

It's a high-action film, with events happening at a frenetic pace, but it takes time to develop the relationships between characters and show the attitudes and thoughts of the protagonist. I enjoyed the aesthetic of the film--it's very visually striking, and contrast between the two main settings, the grungy, concrete, almost industrial-looking Maze and the idyllic green Glen, highlights just how different they are in both mood and safety.

Sounds cool! I'll have to catch it on Netflix, I guess. Don't have money to spend on DVDs right now, alas.

*looks eagerly at game thread* Woo, the quest begins! Well, almost.

My next post is going to move us along, I'm still hashing out exactly what we want to jump to--that evening, or further down the road?--but I gotta go to bed. Aiming for Monday!

Am I bothering you with PMs about worldbuilding stuff, Nim? I can stop if you want me to. Just let me know.

Ah, no! If I don't reply to a pm right away, don't worry--I have a tendency to read them early in the morning, when I really don't have the time to write something, and not actually reply until after work. I really like being able to sit down & think about responses like that rather than snapping off two sentences at work! But yes, I like that idea, I just have a couple of tweaks/suggestions that I will send to you.

I'm thinking about making an Additional/Player-Written Lore thread that people can submit stuff too, as soon as I'm caught up with everything I want to be caught up on! ...when that will happen, I'm not sure

Ah, okay! Sounds good. ^^

I hope none of the player-written lore ends up contradicting itself, though. That'd be awkward. Unless it's from the perspectives of the different cultures, I suppose... that could be cool.

Don't worry, I'd definitely be reviewing and approving player-written lore to find any non-culturally-explained inconsistencies! So it'd be a good idea to pm me before posting it, anyway.

Oh, an approval process. Well, just for that, I might as well scrap Addison's "raised by frogs" origin story. I suppose her gig hunting Metroids in space won't get approved either.

Sorry I was gone today! For some reason my internet was knocked out today. No storms, no downed power lines--just gone. Weird. Wi-fi's kinda spotty where I live, but it's never just gone like that.

Heh, I hope this isn't too clunky to play out? It may be brief, if it turns out to be difficult :p

What makes it a little easy to play out (in my opinion, at least) is the pairings. There's an apparent experienced vs. not, so I don't see this becoming a pissing contest over whose character is "awesomer." I see it more of an opportunity for experienced fighters to train the inexperienced.

Nimue

Dark Lord
Yes, that's definitely the idea--although at this point, of course, Farrun is making guesses based on what he knows of them. Also tried to pair on height, to the extent that we have that! If I ever do a group drawing I'm gonna make everyone give me measurements in feet & inches :p

I wouldn't have thought there'd be too much 'awesomer' wars, since the characters all have pretty different backgrounds and skillsets. Addison being mostly experienced against beasts, for instance, or Farrun having access to magic.

Also, I'm afraid I make it a policy to only ever provide OOC measurements in metric and vague similes.

Tom and I went back and forth via PM, since I wanted to make sure we could both agree on how Addy vs. Troia would play out before posting actions.

@DM, Addy's training scene makes me want to pick up my katana again.

@Tom, Addy's old boss from her wyvern-hunt story used a katana-like sword. What she's showing Troia may have more in common with the swordsmanship I've learned than the swordsmanship you've learned. (She favors the axe, but would know basics of sword, spear, and shield, and to a lesser extent, the hammer. She has a very good friend who's done well with the great sword, but that is not a weapon for Addison's arm.)

Pretty much all of my knowledge comes from HEMA youtube videos, some fechtbuch interpretations I've read, and a fascination with martial history. That said, much of it seems to boil down to applied physics and biology with some psychology thrown in.
