That's just Loke's horse racism, you can ignore that. He doesn't like big horses in general.

EDIT: Loke doesn't like expensive horses because he connects them to the elves or elven sympathisers. I'll likely clarify that at a later point.

Big horses are my favorite. I rode a half-Belgian at the stables I used to work at, and let me tell you--big horses are amazingly patient, gentle creatures. They don't know how big and strong they are--they'll never use their strength against you. Some are so friendly and loyal they seem more like dogs than horses.

Though their size can be a little problematic in tight spots, and it can be a little dizzying the first time you're up on their back, drafts are actually the most pleasant horses to ride. They have nice gaits, stand stock-still when you're mounting and dismounting, and aren't as ultra-sensitive to touch cues as breeds like Arabians, which makes them easier to control.

(I've worked with Arabians, and heavens above, are they flighty. I rode one once that spooked at a raincoat draped over a chair to dry.)

Heh, that works. Wouldn't mind a quick note in the OOC on occasions like this, though, the good old "Character's judgment may not be reliable, please check against other sources"

Yeah, I was going to put something in my original comment where I mentioned Loke's horse breed but it somehow slipped my mind.

Hey, just wanted to let you guys know that I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow, so I'll be out of commission for the whole day, in all likeliness. Whoop-di-do.

Rikhard's horse is an Arabian. Still not set on a name for him, though. :/
Well, I hope you come up with one soon. Addison has already referred to him as Handsome McStripey, and if she gets attached to that name, that will lead to confusion later. And confusion leads to horse-yellings. Addison's horse-yellings are funny the first time; tragic the fourteenth time.

NOTE: I started my sick day watching a couple videos on bareback riding to make sure that Addison isn't stupid for refusing a saddle. I think my one riding experience was also without a saddle. I was 6… or was I 9? Well, my age was definitely six-shaped, and I think my cousin the rider/owner was the nine-year-old in that memory. I was hanging onto her, so I wasn't riding so much as I was on a horse.

All four in one go? That's how I did it. Over a decade ago, but I still haven't forgotten the crack the hammer made!

Yep, all four at once. I'll be in what they call "twilight sedation", so I probably won't feel or hear anything. It's a different medication mix than the traditional laughing gas, so I'm hoping that means I won't be rambling like an idiot when I wake up. XD

I was given a local only, so I got to watch. Maybe most would agree that's not a privilege, but I tend to find operations and such fascinating. (This is where I don't go into detail of what medical procedures I've been awake through, but I will say I assisted with the births of all three of my daughters and had the same "job" every time.)

Had my wisdom teeth been taken out a few years earlier (my bad for putting it off—could've have been very bad had I procrastinated another year), I'd have been knocked out for the procedure. I'm not claiming to be a Manly Man so much as I'll take the recommended anesthesia and if I'm awake, I may as well watch and enjoy the show.

Ahh… I do hate rambling after waking up. Especially if I remember parts of how I acted. Crying, being an [rhymes with Masshole]… maybe this is another reason I prefer local anesthesia (and why I never got drunk more than once).

Hm. I have a name for Rikhard's horse -- Dushan, a possibly-Dunnish word I invented meaning "Brother" -- but no idea how to have it occur to Rikhard. :/ Any ideas?

(Also, if Tom's away all day, is someone going to take over his characters for the time being to keep everyone moving, or what?)

Unless Nimue says different, I think it's okay to assume they're tagging along. They did tell Addison they'd ride out with her and Rikhard. And as you said, we know Tom's going to be unconscious for a good chunk of the day.

Decided to change Rikhard's horse to a Belgian warmblood (same coloring as the Arabian in the picture I showed), after reading other's comments about Arabians spooking easily. Not really what I want for a first-time rider.

I typed "my" in italics. Not sure if that clarifies it's NOT a mistake. I consistently use "me" as "my" with her, but "me" doesn't work if the possessive is stressed. I also use "of" before a vowel sound instead of "o'," and I'm still trying to figure out "ye" vs. "you." Likely, "ye" is only used when Addison's temper is beginning to flare.

Typing her brogue is fun, but I can't tell if the alternate spellings—to you, the reader—successfully show her brogue, or just make my writing appear inconsistent (meaning I'm better off if I always use "me" and "you," and use "me own" where my would normally be stressed).

EDIT - I did change the "my" to "me own." It even threw ME to read "my" coming out of Addy's mouth, in a bad, immersion-breaking way.

I overthink this about her. My first Addison story had way too much brogue (and yet it won!), with apostrophes at the start of certain H-words and such, so I always hope I tone it down but manage to keep the character's voice (with brogue).

If you were reading without thinking about it, then that's a good thing.

It depends on what everyone else is planning on, but I'm thinking of doing a timeskip to the next day either tonight or tomorrow. I have a couple of private scenes with Farrun, one with his brother Samir and one with Hala, but aside from that the only remaining scene would be Farrun showing the young folks to their rooms in the castle. This way everyone can write their own posts for the intervening time, when they can do it--we'd definitely wait for everyone to catch up before skipping to the next day. What else do you guys want to get in? (Ireth, you're welcome to play through Rikhard picking a spear, but I can do that with Farrun as well if you want.)

LS and I were hoping to get in a few posts' worth of basic riding lessons for Addy to give to Rikhard, if nothing else. I'd like for Farrun to be there when Rikhard picks a spear; it might force Rikhard to interact more, and that's a good thing. He needs to come out of his shell a bit.

Yes, I should be able to reply to that over lunch!

Edit: Ninja'd, and ok, we'll plan on the timeskip after that stuff's been done! We can do the armory, and then the rooms just after, then they're all turned loose. We should probably wait for Tom a bit if you want Troia to talk with Addison at the inn, though. Might have made more sense for Rikhard to get a spear first...
