Update coming today. I'm on the road, but will be home. I'll resolve the crossing and answer some questions. Note, the challenge rating for the crossing isn't terribly high. Like I said, the river doesn't move that fast in the place the orcs chose to string their rope across.

@Severin... you should add +4. Of course, that still makes your weakest roll 11.

Good thing SP said the river's not insanely fast, or this would be like the Bridge of Death scene, where everyone's surviving the quest and suddenly: "blue--no, red--AAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

You do add your level to this roll, btw. The base roll is going to be d20+level+ability modifier (and indicate whether you're using a prime ability or not). If you have additional bonuses based on a class ability or magic item, etc., then those bonuses are added in as well.

Sorry guys - another question before we continue:

It doesn't appear anyone ever got out a separate rope, despite the talk of it, and that the party is just crossing using the orc rope. Correct? Or does someone have a separate rope they want to have lashed to certain people?

Bressel; level 2 Barbarian with str 18. d20+3(str)+2 level. Unless there is the Barbarian +4 Primal instincts.

The +4 will bring the fail to 11, the roll after fail to a Str-23, Dex to a 20. So I can see a Dex. save keeping him out of the water.

I forget that Primal instincts bonus.

I missed the rope comment. So unless someone tied a rope to Branwen, Bressel didn't do it. But Baldhart did say it.

I see, Liadan got the rope wet, so I slipped.

I'd like to think Nissa would be kind of a pain about it if Branwen got anywhere near shore without a rope securing her. Maybe Tumi and Branwen can go together (while secured with a rope) with Baldhart and other strong people making sure they get across okay?

I'd like to think Nissa could talk Tumi into protecting the harpy... at least if she uses words like "Branwen" and "child" to remind him she's not just a harpy. Or Callan.

I didn't look at the character sheets to look and see who actually had rope, though I suppose we can assume the party would send someone to Ballara if no one has a rope, since it isn't far and the risk of crossing without it wouldn't be acceptable as far as the kids go.

We have a harpy? Harpies fly, right? Can't the harpy fly across?

Also, any ruling on the climb skill and whether it applies here? Do rogues/assassins actually need to make a check or not? It doesnt provide any bonus to climbing, just makes it automatic when we normally need a check and allows a check when it normally would be impossible.

Bressel has a rope and grappling hook.

Well, no better time to learn than when being tossed across a raging river, right? :D
I thought that's how we teach kids to swim?

I'll go along with a Thief/Assassin not needing a check to cross. That's in line with the description of the class skill. The description doesn't mention this scenario exactly, of course, but it does give examples of where checks aren't needed while they would be for others.

Just a note:

Doesn't make a difference with Baldhart's rolls, but I'm not going to apply to Barbarian bonus here (at least not for the initial swim; it applies for jumping back in after Liadan). The idea behind that bonus gets to the almost half-wild idea of Barbarians. It's the idea that the launch into something without any real regard or consideration for anything other than the obstacle - they just launch themselves at the challenge almost like a force of nature and power through. I think it like the animal part of the mind taking over. Baldhart is giving the crossing plenty of consideration, strategizing, talking to the group as she crosses and so on, so she's not in that Barbarian mode that blocks out everything but her and the obstacle and her own survival.

Like I said, I doesn't matter much here, but the almost unconscious, fearless, non-deliberative aspect of the class skill is a balance for the substantial (+4) bonus. It's a trade off between the Barbarian considering things and trying to come up with a plan based on planning and logic versus throwing herself blindly at a challenge and powering through it.

Like I said, it doesn't matter here in any event, but for future reference it may be important. What I have posted in the Classes thread may be a paraphrase, so I can post full descriptions. Since you guys are leveling up I may post the full descriptions for each class anyway.

Yes, I was going to hold over Bressel's rolls until needed. I should have been more clear.

I figured with Burnbright and Branwen in the drink, he'd change his actions :)

Your post fits Bressel's actions perfectly. (I didn't read it until after I posted.)
I started to have him "plan" his crossing, but remembered it had to be basically without forethought, so he charged forward and called for assistance after the fact.

His thoughts; "We are wet, the rope is slippery, might as well just swim." and goes for it.

Aliron cold and calculating as always, ignoring Branwen and Bressel being in the water, he has to prepare for a possible fight. The world is an ambush waiting to happen, better to prepare for it while the others, better suited to help, saved the party members.

Oh... then I guess Baldy's rolls are 15 (dive after Burnbright w/ +4), 19, 24 (no bonus just swimming).

Looks like Nissa doesn't have the rope, so I'll post her doing what she can with a birdseye view.

Cadell rolled, and I think he did a good job of catching up to the orc. Not sure if I should do a separate roll for grabbing the orc or what.
