26 regular gold coins - human-made, from the north
17 regular silver coins

68 drow gold coins - slightly smaller than a regular gold piece and carved with images of drow and their spider goddess

Baldhart's Proposed Division from the money she found:
Baldhart2g, 6 drow g
Nissa2g, 6 drow g
Cadell3g, 7 drow g
Liadan3g, 7 drow g
Aliron3g, 7 drow g
Bressel3g, 7 drow g
Keit3g, 7 drow g
Zoran3g, 7 drow g
Masama2g, 9s, 7 drow g
Dalla2g, 8s, 7 drow g

She's taking a bit less for herself. Of course, she's also keeping the gems on her, figuring she looks like a poor monk and anyone tries to snatch her purse is not long for this world. (If anyone objects, we should probably RP that when Brechtel & Co. are gone.)

For the anti-corruption ring, she'd prefer that go to a mage—preferably whoever intends to learn the lightning spell. I think it would be dangerous to cast that without the ring. (It's level 6, and we currently lack arcane magic users.)

EDIT - Re-distributed silver to pay NPCs almost as well as PCs.

I think Baldhart would've seen it that way. I did, too. SP never did put the huge sea creature on the map, but I picture it being larger and stronger than the six-legged creature the party faced just before meeting Keit and Batos.

I guess the idea was to leave the creature be and instead kill the creature controlling it, which is exactly what Batos did.

How much was found off the bodies again? Any chance it was al round numbers? 20g, 10, etc.? That would be a no-brainer split.

EDIT - Found it.
There was 20 gold and 38 silver among the drow.
How about 2g, 4s each? My characters will take 2g, 3s. (Baldhart's generosity has more to do with not needing to buy expensive things than being "good.")

When it comes time to share the gold, Masama won't take any of the drow coins. The rest of you can split his share of those.

Here's a near even split of human money, with a smarter distribution of silver. Baldy and Nissa will take less drow gold. (And they just spent their share of the non-drow coins!)

I thought Liadan was the one currently guarding the knife? I don't want to say so in character in case I'm wrong, but...

If anyone's curious, here's what I was able to recover from the Nissa-Brecht conversation (over chat and a PM exchange between chats).

Nissa in Brecht's Carriage

Me: "It does. I see that you and I have a lot in common. We both answer to a higher power for the good of the world.

"Which god do you follow?"

Steerpike: We revere many. Tyr. The All-Father. Even your Brynhild is favored the women of your order. We seek, most strongly, to emulate the ancient hero Sigmar, who is said to have driven evil from the world when it was still young. Not many know of him today, his stories lost to the world, or attributed to others of legend. I find that most gods have something to offer us. The goodly ones, at any rate."

Me: "Tyr. You spoke His name first. Might I assume you follow His ways, including the part of always begin truthful? I mean no offense by that. I mean, you would be truthful in any situation, even when confronting an enemy?"

Steerpike: He nods. "Tyr commands that we live up to our word. There are different interpretations of that, among the church and members of my own order. Oh, we all adhere to it, though some believe it permissible to violate this command if by doing so one prevents a great evil. Perhaps Tyr would approve, perhaps not. I cannot know the mind of a god, only what he has commanded of us. And so I try to live up to it. And what of you, Miss van Donk? Brynhild is not as common a choice as she once was. Well-known in the north, where stories of Veborg are still told to little girls at bed time, but not as commonly worshipped as in days past. What drew you to her?"

Me: "I died."

Steerpike: When Nissa mentions having died, the Inquisitor stops speaking for a moment, studying her. Then he nods slowly. "There was a similar case in Mittelstady when I was but an acolyte. A man was shot through with arrows during a bandit attack. By the time they got him to the temple he was not breathing. We could find no heartbeat. The man was dead. Still, we tended to him, not willing to give up on such a young life. As we worked, the man drew in a gasping breath. We listened to his chest, hearing his heart beat again. He had been dead, there on our table, but the gods saw fit to return him to us. That man became a priest, years later, tending to a small flock in one of the southern villages."

Me: Nissa has her hands on the straps of her backpack, but she simply adjusts it then settles down, enjoying the hospitality, particularly the snacks.

"I was hit hard by an orc. On the head. My father cared for me for a long time, feeding me and cleaning me while all I could do was dream of Brynhild and Her valkyries. I knew from the dreams my willingness to stand up to the orc raider was not in vain. I wounded him in a way that made running difficult, and he was left humiliated and disabled long enough that enough of my father's people—halflings, I mean—collected their crossbows, surrounded the raiders, and put up a fight no orc thought us capable of.

"I just wish what happened to me didn't darken my father so. The orc that took me down was spared so he could be kept alive, forced to look upon me, and he was tortured. Killed the day my father no longer had to feed and clean me."

Nissa decides to let more of the truth out, but not her wings. Not yet. Maybe not ever.

"You're a good man, Brecht. Like I said earlier, dark elves and humans alike can be evil. Even a man dressed as you are could be a demon in disguise, so to speak. Those I travel with heard news of some corruption in the Inquisition. If I had a suspicion that you were corrupt, I'd have kept that to myself. But I see kindness and justice in you, and a desire to rid the world of the greatest evils."

Or maybe she'd need to get her wings out, as well as herself—out that window. She sat calmly, watching for the Inquisitioner's expression.

Steerpike: Brecht nods solemnly as Nissa tells her tale. "Orcs. Terrible creatures. Sigmar drove them from the land in times past. Would that he had rid us of the creatures."

When she mentions corruption in the Inquisition, his eyes narrow. "Corruption within the order? It is an order of men and women, and as such human frailty plays a role. Still, the order has a noble goal. True, some of our membership has fallen to darkness over the years, tempted by the secrets we uncover in our work. But I would not make such claims publicly, Miss van Donk. It is one thing for us to speak privately, here in this carriage. But the Order is powerful, and once it moves in a certain direction its weight makes it hard to change course."

He shrugs. "But you are a lovely girl, and there is no need to speak of such dark things on a day like this. Tell me more of these orphans you found. Have they a place to go?"

Me: Nissa smiles at the man. "The orphans. We were planning to take them to Balarra and... well, we have options, though they're limited. There's a girl who joined us, but might have a change of heart. Perhaps she can help with the children.

"If you don't mind my asking, what is the destination of this caravan?"

Steerpike: "The caravan is bound for Alfoss," Brecht says. "Perhaps our temple there can take in the children. Ballara may be an option, but Alfoss is larger. Our resources there are greater."

Me: Nissa says, "Thank you for offering. I can't make that decision, as the others will have their say and, in truth, the children may wish to stay in Ballara with us for a night. They lost two brothers and a sister, and the kindly Miss Liv who cared for them when their own mothers could not.

"Anyway, I do appreciate your offer, and perhaps I could make arrangements through the temple in Ballara if the children are better off in Alfoss. In case that's what happens, would I be able to give your name as a contact?"

Nissa considers the thought in her mind. But what would be the point of it? Except that the news will get to the Inquisition anyway. Better to gamble that the man in front of me is the good man he says he is. Maybe he can dismiss rumors of a valkyrie. If not, then worst-case, I'm hastening the inevitable.

"In fact, if I am going to trust you to care for the children we risked our lives to rescue, that means I trust you completely. I believe you when you say our conversation is private. I believe you follow the good gods, steer clear of temptation, and use force only as necessary.

"I believe that someday, you will come to face your god for judgment, and on that day you will have nothing to fear. And if a valkyrie should guide you there, well... if I am no longer in this mortal form, I hope to have the honor."

She removed her shawl, and grips the straps of her backpack.

"I need you to let it sink in a moment, that I did refer to myself as a valkyrie. When you arrive in Alfoss, you will hear rumors of a valkyrie in Arendal. You will hear other rumors as well, and I will get into that. But first, I want to ask you..."

Nissa lets the backpack drop. She spreads her wings.

"When you see me like this, do you believe that I am who I say I am? I am Nissa van Donk, slain by an orc 789 years ago at the age of nineteen, called into service by Brynhild Herself, and here now to guide Her only nun who has come to the north to crush the evil plaguing this land or die trying."

Steerpike: When Nissa mentions Miss Liv, Brecht frowns. "Liv, you say? A farm woman who takes in orphans from Alfoss? She is well known in the city. If that is who you are speaking of, this is sad news indeed. You may certainly give my name to those in Ballara. I have only been there twice, but they know me at the temple."

When Nissa exposes her wings, a look of pure shock crosses Brecht's face, and it takes him a long moment to recover. "Can this be true? Valkries, returned to earth? Such a thing has not happened since the time of legends." He stammers a moment, then mutters "I must speak to others of my order about this. If you are what you claim..." he looks Nissa over carefully. "This is almost beyond belief. Miss van Donk, just as you say corrupt men may walk in the clothes of my order, so too may demons take a pleasing form to lead the righteous astray. I have the power to sense whether any evil resides within you. With your permission, I would use it now for one piece of evidence that you are what you claim."

Me: Nissa smiles at the man. "By all means, Brecht. Please do not hesitate."

Steerpike: Brecht takes a small amulet with a ruby at its center from a around a chain on his neck. He recites a few words and the ruby glows. Then, he examiners Nissa carefully. When the glow fades her says "You have no evil in you, that much is certain. You are no demon or harpy. If what you say is true, then this only confirms my belief that a dark storm is headed for this world. That Brynhild sees fit to intervene tells me something of how serious things are."

Me: "Yes. It is quite grim, Brecht. I would only ask that whatever you say to those in your order, I don't want my wings to draw unwanted attention to the warriors I'm with. That is why I had the tailor make this false backpack to cover the wings."

Steerpike: Brecht nods thoughtfully. "It is smart to cover those wings, be you valkyrie or something else. The witch hunters would likely see them as the mark of a demon - that you are a harpy or some worse thing come to lead men to darkness. I will be careful in what I say. Some of my order would doubt your claim and view your wings as evidence of abomination. Others like myself...well, we understand that the world is not always as simple as it seems, and that the gods gave us the power of judgment intending that we use it wisely."

Me: Nissa's poker face reveals a hint of relief.

"Inquisitor Brecht, I must admit I took a chance with you. Brynhild has not given me the ability to see into your soul. I had to do it the way I always did as a mortal, by simply conversing with you.

"I feel comfortable having the children travel with you, or staying in Ballara and making arrangements for Alfoss in the near future. In return, please trust me and my nun friend to destroy any evil artifacts we may find in our battles.

"You said that corruption of those in your order starts with the temptation to use the powerful things found among the corpses of the dark elves. I will quote you should the warriors among me display such a temptation."

Steerpike: He gives Nissa yet another long gaze, then nods. "I trust you. And you should destroy such objects, not only because of the potential for corruption, but because it could be dangerous for you were they to be found on your person.
Steerpike: "Let us meet with your group. I will see the children to safety if everyone agrees."

Me: "Very well." Nissa decides to enjoy some more snacks. "For the sake of your guards and driver, and the boy, I will cover my wings before I get out. The children with me have already been told not to speak of my wings. If they travel with you, they may talk to you of wings all they want. I just hope seeing my wings is proof that, well... that they will see their loved ones again."

Ninja'd by the GM post. I'll post differently later. (Baldy got a bit confrontational in tone, but it makes no sense to now that the guard reacted positively to Cadell. Nissa's CHA check was awesome, of course.)

@Ireth, Cadell has Decipher as a skill now, too, right?

@SP, I forget… did Tarlack actually write a note (that goblins might be able to read)? Baldhart asked for one, but events wrapping up that quest are kind of a blur for me.

Oh. Well, there's always Aliron. Same skill for his class, and I think INT is a prime for him.

It seems odd that a WIS check would have a better result than a class skill called Decipher Script. My guess is that the WIS check, while more likely to succeed, has a lesser effect. Still, if WIS checks will do any good, Nissa can help out in addition to Liadan, Keit, Masama, and possibly others.
