"Leave him," I admonish Baldhart. "To cover his escape I once performed a spell before an entire town, and with this act tarnished my reputation in the North. If the word of one who went to such lengths to protect him is worth anything, hear me: leave him.

I'm hurt....

I figured since the GM post had Skivver pointing and saying Ankari went in, anyone could react as if in turns (meaning Ankari has a six second lead as opposed to a minute or two). I sent Nissa in, figuring that by not having to crawl in a small space she can get to him before he engages the enemy or makes his presence known. I was going to have her whisper then leave (since she doesn't intend to say more than she has already), but by the same logic that she should have time to catch up, she shouldn't be able to get to him then take off before Ankari can even react.

I'm hurt....

You know, it's her nature. Look on the bright side: Her belief that he's wise enough to not attack a powerful enemy without support had a great weight there.

@LS ...but in any case we can't rule out ambushes. Ten upset dark elves. I'm relieved Nissa went after him, even if it's to let him know no one is following. I was secretly hoping they'd ignore Mauve and follow him, because I'd hate to see a character severely injured/killed this way as a result of her actions.

@SP, I'm not sure if Ankari has engaged the enemy. Nissa's attempt was to get to him before that. She's unarmed, and while normally willing to fight naked, she's of the mindset that Ankari's recklessness endangers the party… I'm not sure what risks she'll take for him right now with children's lives at stake.

Long story short, if she can get to Ankari without alerting the enemy, there's no question she'll do so. Otherwise, well… it depends on what's going on in that cave.

He's pointing out an alternate route and he said "elves might not know," which I guess answers the well-guarded part.
Skivver looks up at Mauve and says: "Skivver know holes. There holes take Skivver where dark elfs put Tarlack. Dark elfs busy, might not seeing him. Get Tarlack, get kobold yes."
Well… the alternate route is pointed out after Baldhart speaks to him:
Skivver nods his head at Baldhart. "Go Tarlack, then go children. Only way go dark elfs not know." He points down the slope of the hill toward the north. "Hole come out in Taint. Tarlack cover, tell kobolds no. But Skivver remember. Dark elfs not see."
But still, unless I missed something (which I'm not ruling out) it looked like he answered Mauve's question (from your most recent post).

Yeah, Skivver isn't the best informant in the world, but he was basically saying that the dark elves are pretty busy and might not be watching Tarlack. Skivver can't know for sure, but he seems to think the dark elves are pretty relaxed in terms of guarding Tarlack. They probably haven't had to worry much about him and have had better things to do.

Depending on how Ankari responds, Nissa may with she picked a bigger rock. Still, not a bad throw for a girl with short arms and no dex bonus.

My characters don't have torches. (I totally forgot to buy them for all the shopping I did!) So, Nissa has an oil spill which can be lit anytime. Baldy's getting all kinds of things to help feed the fire, but I'm not sure if the situation requires the fire to be started first, then sticks and dead things can be thrown in plus an extra oil bottle in case the fire on the oily rocks would get smothered or extinguished by snow melting off the branches.

I do have experience with brushfires/bonfires in snowy weather. The smoke will be thick and yellow. I don't know how well dead kobolds burn. I burned meatballs once. Not the same.

I hope no one objects, but I made a major edit after seeing the map:

SnowEntrance2-populated.png

There's no way she'd run way the hell down the hill to a snowy bush and dead bodies when there's a tree right next to her. She uses the evergreen nearest to the hole. (Bressel's post works as is. If someone had reacted to Baldy's foolishness, I'd've left it.)

Update coming this afternoon - gotta run right now. If you guys want to post more, you can assume the fires get built with the materials people have been using. Dalla helps Ankari. The lizards do not coming running out of the hole once the fire starts. It's up to the party whether you want to hang around and see if they ever do. Skivver is ready to take you guys to the 'hole' he knows about.

Hmm… could Roderick go on horse-sitting duty, or did he high-tail it into the woods?

(When players pop in and out of the game, I think their characters should be assigned a mundane task before they wander off. Maybe I only feel that strongly about it because I draw the avatars.)

You guys might be able to track him down, if you trust him. There are places to board a horse by the now-abandoned farm as well, though who knows how safe that will be.

I was actually about to post* Baldy suggesting the farmhouse before asking that. I wasn't completely serious about Rod, but I was curious as to whether he officially walked away from the group on his own or not.

*and it was auto-saved--yay!

Looks like people have been away this weekend. I want others to have an opportunity to post before the PCs are either split up or all go crawling into darkness. I'll update tomorrow morning, at the latest, whether others post or not :)

Hey cats...got to work early intending to post and then made the mistake of getting side tracked by voice mail and forgot about it. Looks like we've had others post, and I'll get an update up ASAP.

I'm sorry about my disappearance, I've got some intense work going on these two weeks, and I'm inspired enough to keep frantically studying and working on my own stuff in the rest of the time. I'll try to catch up later today, but no need to wait for me if it's the case, I don't want to disrupt the game.
