@Ireth,

I would think checks would operate at the same level as your health calculation (which is currently level 3, your class levels added together minus one). That would be the simplest way for checks, while class skills would be determined by class level.

That's how Baldy was rolling last battle (she used A LOT of grapple checks and strength checks, and even a couple INT checks when searching for Burnbright).

Little sis is wonderful and lent me her laptop, but I'll still probably only be able to get online intermittently for a while. Replacing my hard disk is more than I can afford right now.

Hope you can stay connected, Ireth :)

I'll be updating the game this evening. And I'll do my best to reinforce the point that you don't want to use magic openly, so that once you guys get out of little villages to a populated area where the authorities have the power and desire to burn such people, the compulsion to keep trying it will be over! :D

Yeah, it might be good to stop screwing with townsfolk before we wander into a place where the militia men are level 6 rangers instead of middle-aged men.

If you guys ever get to the southland...well, the Inquisition and its witch hunters are a political and paramilitary force on par with some nations. They wield quite a bit of influence. Getting on their radar would be a good way to get the whole party burned at the stake, and let Tyr sort them out later.

Hmm… could we have an NPC who can give a friendly reminder of such dangers on a need-to-know basis?

I mean, uh… frequently?—since, in fact, you DID have Gisla give a friendly warning not to "joke" about magic publicly. But I mean if we head south, it might be cool to hear (or overhear) news of the latest witch hunt so every player has a clear idea of the political situation. Some wanted posters confirming whether Ankari's and Mauve's descriptions spread through the north would be cool, too!

I find the murdered priest and the now-freaked-out priest highly entertaining, and they're fun twists, but I'd hate for us to be 2+ years into the game and die in a town (which is supposed to be relatively safe) because people are RP'ing suicidally. I'm under the assumption that 35, 45, 55HP is nothing when the town has armed, trained guards at our level and triple our number. I'd rather we don't die against a monster either, of course, but at least then we could say, Well, we thought we needed to kill that monster, and thought we could… whoops! instead of What the ---- did you do that for?

Poor Cadell! The rest of the party is oblivious.

If you want to know the real sad part of Baldy's failure to notice... remember how Something to Ponder rolled a natural 20, then Ireth did, and how she said Rolz is good to us?

Well, I rolled next and was like YEAH 23! But I hadn't logged in. I just typed my name and password and rolled. I took a screenshot just to show it's not Rolz's fault the chain was broken. I broke the chain.

On the bright side, I was mentally prepared to fail anyway since INT is non-prime. I expected a better result for Nissa, but what would she say to a freaked-out priest of Tyr anyway? "He grew scales, I cheated death, another of us killed someone… meh. Heck, even my goddess is violating an agreement just by sending me here."

Hey folks,

Sorry it took me so long to get ready. I just got back from deployment and was catching up with the family. Steerpike has my character info (but I think I need to level him up one or two levels before I start). Character name is Hail' Smythe. Male half Elf bard. Looking forward to joining.

No need to level him up before starting, Joe. All of us started at level 1, even those who joined later in the game. (The sole exception is Liadan, my secondary character, but I got Steer's OK to start her at level 2.) I look forward to playing with you!

Welcome home, Joe!

The current party is a mix of Level 1-3 characters, so you're not too far behind. We'll try to keep Mr. Smyhte alive… er, assuming we can save our own butts given the current mess we're in. We could use a charming character—one who doesn't need to hide a pair of wings.

Yeah, my brother caught me over my time limit. Anyone know how to deal with a sibling who, despite being younger than you, thinks he's the boss because he's the same height and can beat you in feats of strength? I keep telling him that if our parents were gone I would be the one in charge but he had the nerve to say "no, I'd be in charge!"

I need to put that bugger back in line.... he may beat me in strength but that doesn't beat wits.

Do we have anyone who is still level 1 at this point? We can work the character in at any point, really. I'll PM you some ideas, Joe.

I think we're all at least level 2 now, even latecomers like Keit. Not sure what Batos would count as. On the other hand, what about Nissa?
