When I said…

…I was getting at:

There are risks we must take in battle, and then there are suicidal things we do in the hope we might gain something. Extracting would require at least 3 or 4 turns, assuming SP is generous to allow a six-second extraction to be fruitful (plus two turns to move round trip, maybe a third move turn for the climb), while the stairs are seconds (1-2 turns?) from collapsing. If the spider is submerged, then there was never any hope of getting that venom. If the spider is buried in a pile of wood later, then yes, you can extract the venom without worry that the stairs will collapse (especially with a barbarian or two supporting you on a rope).

EDIT - Also, let's not forget WHY the stairs are collapsing. Huge monster. Could reach into stairs, grab and eat wizard who's busy extracting venom. The venom is chili sauce (mild) to the huge monster.

Yes I dont think there is anyway at all of getting the venom right now, especially with all that's going on. However I seem to remember that parts of the sea are shallow. So hopefully the stairs collapse and create some sort of platform of rubble as I seem to remember the spider was on level 3 so it may well be above sea level, if that is the case the I will definetily be asking Baldhart to be lowering me down to try to extract some.

Thanks Legendary.

Probably be this evening for update, unfortunately. I'm pretty much ready to go but haven't had time to make a map. Have a mandatory training session at lunch today and a Nanowrimo write-in right after work :)

You can always count on Baldhart (as long as she doesn't know you follow an evil deity).

For good reasons though! The ability to speak the language of ancient dragons may come in handy on some ancient runes, or in some caves on top of a mountain somewhere. (familiar? :p)

Or if we happen to come across some of them, then we you'll all be glad I learned

I thought the dragons were all gone?

They are, but there could be secret younglings left behind in a cave somewhere.
All KNOWN dragons are thought to be extinct. or we could come across some lair that has the language somewhere written or some magic artifact that "speaks". Who knows maybe im just dying to use this boon somehow, it cant be useless.

I can also read magic so that will come in handy im sure. I cant wait to get into some mountains or castles, keeps something adventurous. :D

Well, if they were left toward the start of the past millennium, they won't be so young anymore. XD

How fast do dragons mature? I think they live for thousands of years, however your probably right. Well, Looks like one day aldar will come across a mighty beast.

Hmm... not sure what to do in the main thread. If Liadan is able to pick up Keit, then she might not be able to move as dexterously toward safety. Or fight against any fishies who might attack, for that matter. Hard to wield a flail with her hands full.

Nissa's fire bomb slowed them, so I think none are on the stairs (yet). By the way, since Badly went from stairs to cliff, that means her sword is near her allies who can't climb?

Wow… awesome rolls from Severin's guys! Batos may just make it. (Curious… do rocks hurt more from 30 feet above?)

I think rock is 1d4+STR. Well, whatever it is, I know you add STR to throw damage (though the hit roll is DEX), so it's gonna hurt coming from Bressel!

Ok, a triple natural 20 on rolls.
I see bad rolls coming rapidly.

Aliron climbs like a spider and sneaks like a ninja, Brussel nailed a fishie with a rock.

Maybe +1 per 10'? I was thinking d6 for the rock. Of coourse, depends on the size.

Sling does 1d4 damage. Maybe bigger rocks thrown, do more damage.
