Wait... what... why is Keit drowning? I think the failed check effect remains unknown until there's a GM post. The 'aaaaah SPLASH' in my roll was only a guess. SP said Baldhart can climb by taking the escape route throu the broken rail, so it's possible that we're not forced to fall overboard.

I mean, if you want Keit in the water fro dramatic reasons, that's cool... but does anyone else have a rope? (Hopefully Nissa's bombing stops fish demons from noticing Keit. It's wading depth, so maybe they're not in a place to swim under the fire to get to her? Batos... his predicamant is another story.)

I wondered about that as well. Exactly how deep is the water? "Wading depth" doesn't tell me much, personally. That makes me think it's ankle- or knee-deep, which doesn't seem to be much good for hiding fish-demons in the not-really-existent depths.

I thought before the battle began, we were told we could wade in some of the water. I'm not sure how many squares from the cliff's edge... I guess there would be a deep part before the first "horizontal" dock.

I agree, however I think it's something we want to avoid at all costs. For many reasons.

If we are in the water we stand to get attacked by the fish creatures and god knows what else, hell if that sea creature that cracked the stairs hits us he would probably swallow us all in one. If we managed to get to the rocks to start climbing, we could be assaulted by the villagers or the gnolls from the cliffs above, or we may be pulled back into the water.

What level of stairs did the spider die on? I really want to grab some of the spider poison, It is very rare I hear :p

P.s. Dont forget about the rope it cost me 10 gold :D

Spider was basically on level 3. Really on the stairs in between 2 and 3, but closer to where Liadan was on level 3. Using the venom wouldn't be a problem with an evil god, and as far as honor goes, so long as you keep the use inconspicuous that wouldn't be an issue with NPCs. Might be harder to keep it from party members.

i thought that the Dex check was how high the requirement would be for us to make it to land or at least stay on the bridge. Keit didn't hit that number, but i can easilly use that scene for drama purposes.

I never thought wading in the water was a good idea. Baldhart's climbing up.

Rescuing Keit and Batos will not be easy. It's not impossible, but it needs to happen in a way that doesn't put more characters in distress. Climbing down to help basically means whoever climbed down also needs to be rescued. If we survive this, I think the party needs to discuss the difference between bravery and suicide. Even Baldhart "Gimme My Wings" Eisenberg wanted to avoid fighting on the stairs from the very beginning.

Words to live by. That's why I was so relieved about Liadan NOT getting bitten by that ginormous spider and possibly passing out from its venom.

Thanks Sp. Perhaps the party members may well see that it might save their loves at some point :)
Anyone think I could make it down to the spider to cut a fang out before the stairs collapse? Aww it's going to be close if I do risk it. And yes I would keep it on the down low from NPC's.

Plans anyone?

Liadan's plan is to get the heck off those stairs ASAP. Whether the dice will allow her to reach dry land or dump her in the sea remains to be seen.

actually.... Legendary can you edit out the part where keit fell off? I think it' sokay if she just hits the railing,b tu Steer can determine if she makes it off. As for batos, he can panic all he likes lol

I crossed out Batos' POV and banished it to a spoiler tag. Up to SP how to handle this, so I didn't delete the text. I don't know if Batos can make a move (as in AWAY from the many fish demons).

Yeah, I'm all for not having to rescue an unconscious character in the water. It's different if someone falls because that's the way the dice rolled. I wouldn't write yourself into distress. It can result in a cool rescue scene, or you might find seemingly brave characters abandoning yours.

Does that have to happen during battle? Couldn't Aldar go back for the spider's corpse later? And ask someone else to assist him? Someone really strong who can hold the rope while he extracts the venom, then pull him up with her brute strength? Someone whose good goddess cares more about smiting evil than manmade codes of honor? Someone who sleeps naked in front of everyone, and would do just about anything to earn back the little dignity she'd like to think she might still have?

I don't think he'll have time to extract the venom. Enough hints were given, the stairs will collapse on the next impacts. Either prevent them or fall with the stairs in the next rounds. It's a wild guess, but I suppose the venom won't seem so important when your character is falling to his death.

…I was getting at:

There are risks we must take in battle, and then there are suicidal things we do in the hope we might gain something. Extracting would require at least 3 or 4 turns, assuming SP is generous to allow a six-second extraction to be fruitful (plus two turns to move round trip, maybe a third move turn for the climb), while the stairs are seconds (1-2 turns?) from collapsing. If the spider is submerged, then there was never any hope of getting that venom. If the spider is buried in a pile of wood later, then yes, you can extract the venom without worry that the stairs will collapse (especially with a barbarian or two supporting you on a rope).

EDIT - Also, let's not forget WHY the stairs are collapsing. Huge monster. Could reach into stairs, grab and eat wizard who's busy extracting venom. The venom is chili sauce (mild) to the huge monster.

Stop with the hints. If you have someone in mind, say their name!
