Worth noting - Baldhart is carrying her cloak with many things bundled inside, including three bladed weapons. A handshake is impossible.

If a handshake is attempted, I need to roll a d10 to know how many toes Baldy still has.

Could she not hand her bundle off to someone else if she were inclined to shake? Granted, it's kind of a moot point now, but hey.

Did I miss something? From the Cadell-Baldhart exchange, I'm getting the feeling that Ankari is doomed. Did Cadell tell the gnolls of a trap?

Cadell did mention a trap, but he was vague about it, and was careful not to mention anyone specifically by name, whether they be of the company or Arendal. Except Catli, whose name was already known to the gnolls anyway. He never said what the trap itself was, either. What he said amounts to "hey, if you go down there, they're going to fake a parley and then kill you. How about you retreat, nice and peaceful-like, and nobody has to get hurt? Beware though, if you do come and fight, I'm not going to be on your side."

Steer: The gnolls sneer as best as their dog faces allow. Howls and snapping jaws close in behind you. The gnoll leader steps forward and lowers a jagged spear at your chest. "Ankari. We know of the trap. Your friend, the honorable Cadell, has warned us of your coming."

Ankari: "Here is a message from the leaders of Arendal. They want to meet you on a boat to negotiate."

Steer: The gnoll leader presses the spear into your chest. "Did you not hear me? We know of the trap. We'll skewer you and turn your screaming body over a blazing fire."

Ankari: "Don't be late. They set out some salted fish and tankards of the finest liquor. It's first come, first serve though."

Steer: The gnoll leader's tongue hangs loose in shock. He shakes his head. "You will die now."

Ankari: "Tell your gnolls to not follow me. I'm going west, to escape this madness. Have fun against the humans. I killed their priest, by the way."

Steer: The gnolls erupt into shouts and barking. Through the animal sounds, you hear calls for your blood. The gnoll leader narrows his eyes and leans against the spear. It pierces your chest, puncturing a lung.

Ankari: I turn around and weave my way through the crowd, surprised at the thin air.

Cadell just stole the "jerk" title from Ankari! >D

Isn't it nice that Mauve decided to keep tracking since she was already at the forest? She seriously wouldn't bother if she didn't fear that Cadell and Líadan would try to kick the ass she worked so hard to save. Now the ranger won't die alone!

The worst part is that Cadell had a feeling I was going to the gnolls and didn't WARN me. Wow. I'm smiling with shock!

Hahahah! Hey, Ankari is a murderer, why would he care? :x

Oh, that situation reminds me of something: Feline Overlord, how much time passed since the priest died? Time tracking is important to someone with exhausted MP. ^^'

I knew there was something missing from those posts...

No, seriously, I meant to have a warning in there somewhere. I guess Cadell was just too ticked off to remember to say it. Or maybe I mistakenly thought something else he'd said passed for a warning, and that's why I didn't make a more explicit one. Either way... oopsie. ^^;

Something just occurred to me. Cadell doesn't view Ankari as part of the company anymore due to his betrayal and the murder of Father Geralt, so it stands to reason he wouldn't warn him about the gnolls. He really doesn't care whether Ankari lives or dies -- honestly, in fact, he might even want Ankari to die, because that likely would've happened anyway within the justice system of Arendal if Ankari hadn't escaped.

That sounds kinda cruel when I put it that way. But hey, Cadell is technically True Neutral, at least according to his bio. I can finally really portray that side of him now that he's not bound by any knightly code. Hmmm.

I'm still in shock. If I manage to live, I can't wait to see Baldhart's reaction to the twist. She's sitting on the boat, thinking I may betray her, and looks up to see me running before an army of gnolls hollering at the top of my lungs.

"Ranger down!"

If he survives this traumatic experience we'll make sure to give him a hug, some hot chocolate milk and cookies. =P

I had a post written, and when I hit submit, it was erased.

I'll reply when I can.

Autosave didn't bring it back an hour ago, but now all I wrote is back. Yay!

Hey, Gisla, can you hold this?

*thump*

Nice. Drop all my crap.

…if she were inclined to shake?
She's not inclined.

He could be bluffing, but Baldhart suspects not. (The inner monologue seems to indicate it's a confession, not a bluff.)

Well… he does have a note. Yeah, getting the message to the gnolls should be interesting.
