We could have additional effects for a critical failure of this type, but I feel like the magic system already has enough penalty associated with it without creating a new one.
The magic system is quite punishing. Just using simple magic can kill the caster directly(runaway magic, as Celexa, or indirectly with corruption) Magic can do massive destruction later on, but it can kill or severely injure the lesser mage.

They can be heavy artillery or self destruction device.

Yeah… next caster gets arrows rained upon him/her. Well… unless of course the next caster is also a giant creature that will fight hand-to-hand.

Poor, confused Bressel. Alin comes up with a sneaky idea, and Baldhart 'unwittingly' blows it in the next instant! (Yeah, I knew, but I already figured ahead of time how she'd [over]react to seeing a party member thought dead.)

Wait, wasn't Aliron knocking at the door of Baldhart's room? Did he just teleport back to the common room? Oh, well...

P.s.: Guys, you're at the common room. Be careful. :x

P.p.s.: I think Baldhart knows about Mauve's map, she was there when Mauve requested Gisla's assistance. I don't think Mauve ever talked to Gisla alone.

Oh… well, either way, Baldy's better off actually looking at the map and wants to wait for Mauve. What's taking her so long? She isn't stuck in fish-demon form for 20 minutes, is she?

Maybe that wasn't a knock, but the thump-thump of Aliron falling down the stairs, back to the common room. Being the stealthy guy that he is, he probably played it up like he was downstairs the whole time and, whatever that knock, thump, drumming you heard was… it wasn't.

Burnbright's response. :<
Mauve ignored her too much already lately, I don't want to rush this now.

(aaand she'll look for Branwen first and possibly when downstairs, request the little harpy's meal to be prepared herself, because she asked someone and this someone didn't do this. *cough* xD)

Oh… is this an edit?

Oh, meanwhile, can you ask to some serving girl prepare rare meat for Branwen? Maybe a little bread and some vegetables pieces.

I noticed you edited at 11:something, and I wasn't home so I likely read that post before your edit (even if I replied later). If that's the case, I'll have Baldy take care of that.

FYI: I've not warned before since my character isn't present, but...

You can discuss as much you want without Mauve, however, that doesn't mean she'll go along your plan of risking Branwen. From the way she freaked out earlier when she felt Branwen was at risk you should be able to infer she would never allow you to risk the little harpy.

^ Yeah, I figured as much. It's frustrating (from a character perspective) when other characters don't work with the plan, though. Might as well not plan at all, if there's going to be that many variables and wildcards!

Also, question -- this new NPC guy we've befriended. Is his name Masala or Masama? I've seen it spelled both ways, and nobody's bothered to correct people one way or the other.

Just getting Baldy's chores out of the way.

Regarding the rescue plan, yeah… Baldy's willing to hear it out, but it doesn't change her think-like-the-enemy mindset, which gives her reason to believe that one captured with a death sentence can't be rescued, since any armed guard can speed up the process.

Unless a GM-PM tells me differently, I'm going with the assumption that Nissa tells Baldy a purification ritual is superstitious BS. (Based on common knowledge of gods, Hel and Brynhild are the only goddesses who deal with dead humans/semi-humans, so I don't see Tyr really having a thing to do with this.) Even if the ritual isn't BS, it doesn't change Baldy's concern that Branwen would be put to the sword sooner than we could get to her, and that the attempt would put our party at war with the town.

It's Masama.

The best way to plan anything if to gather everyone in a single room, away from other people's ears... and plan. You just can't expect people will play along if they weren't even heard in first place.

Also, Mauve has a clear plan for their future, after they leave this town. She was hoping to tell them tonight and hear what they think. :x

Well, Cadell fully intends to tell everyone his plan over dinner, as I've said before both in and out of character. But even once they've heard it, and especially when they have, I expect to hear some protests. ._. And Cadell will likely be miffed. "Trying to plan something with you lot is like trying to herd cats!"
