I sing clearly this time, calling lightning to zap these blasted apes!

Jei's arrow buries itself deep into the cyclape near the pixies. Mariya's bolt of lightning is not her strongest spell, but it's enough to drop the ape on the table. The beast flops onto the floor.

The remaining apes swing wildly, but PJ, Emma and Fenella dodge the attacks with ease. Only Vincent is close to being hit, but his opponent only punches the chair. Shan Mai's opponent simply misses, his eye too focus on the dark glow of the wakizashi. The beasts whoop and holler, filling the room with strange noises.

Only one remains calm. He grabs PJ by the hair and lifts him with one arm.

PJ struggles, but his effort is futile.

The floor begins to shake. The tiles beneath begin to crack, the fire is closing in, and the apes make it impossible for most of the party to even move.

((Shan Mai can move enough to assist PJ. Everyone else is pretty much stuck with their nearest group of enemies. Jei can stay put, but if she wants to move, she can leap the flames [agility roll] to land either at Shan Mai's side or Emma's.))

As the fire closes in and the floor threatens to fall out from under me, I swing my chair once again.

The smoke makes my eyes water too much to get a decent swing in.

((Emma 13, JJ 4, Muziko [1…3], Olga 7, PJ 11, Pidge 3))

Emma leaps high in the air and jumps on a cyclape's head. PJ continues to struggle helplessly while the others miss their targets.

Muziko continues to sing, though her voice seems to be cracking from the smoky air.

It's hard to see much because of the flames. Rather than attacking, Mariya and I try to keep out of the range of our enemies.

Shan Mai:
"Tongues of flame converge around the blade. The fire is consumed by the dark aura"

Shan Mai strikes with the blade as the fire is drawn into the blade.

[Maybe just touching the sword to the target will release the energy that the sword has drawn into it? if not I just slapped the side of the cyclo-ape with my sword.]

{{Shan Mai, stop slapping your ape and finish it off! Wait what?}}

Vincent and Fenella find there attacks are fended easily. In fact, only Emma and Shan Mai are able to harm the enemy, unfortunately, only the katana is able to strike the enemy. As far as the samurai can tell, the flames absorbed by his wakizashi have not been released.

Jeisera and Mariya never get the opportunity to strike. The room begins to quake to the point that all anyone can do—ape, human or pixie—is struggle to maintain his or her footing. Flames shoot through the cracks in the floor, forcing everyone to remain where he or she stands until…

map_14_browns_04_by_legendarysidekick-d7heqzn.png

…a large section of the floor caves in, forcing several of our heroes and three apes (one dead) to slide down the sloped floor into the dust billowing in the darkness.

((All players and pixie sidekicks fall in.))

Our heroes are not on the burning floor for long. The humans feel the smack of wet, slimy bricks on their rumps. The pixies feel the force of wind, but each manages to cling to whatever shoulder or contraption she is riding on. There are sounds of shattering wood, panicking apes, and Muziko nervously holding the note to her spell song. The landing is wet, but surprisingly painless…

As the floor collapses under us, I'm treated to a dizzying view of the nearest cyclape's thoughts. Its fear, pain and nausea mingle with my own fright and uncertainty.

The landing is surprisingly soft -- slimy bricks covered by a few inches of water. My eyes take a few seconds to adjust to the darkness; as they do, I carefully shift where I sit, making sure I'm uninjured before attempting to stand. Dread churns in the pit of my stomach. What new peril will we face down here?

As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you see apes shrieking in terror as they are sucked into a whirling funnel in the sewer water. Some bricks fall around them, followed by a screaming woman. She lands on a drowning ape, then vaults gracefully, landing between Shan Mai and Vincent.

"Well, that sucked," says Emma. Looking at the apes, she adds, "Almost."

Muziko continues holding her note.

((Feel free to heal or cast defensives. I'll update Friday, or sooner if everyone who can heal or cast defensives posts. Muziko's roll is part of the current turn.

PS- Jei has berries and Shan Mai has health rolls. You need to roll the die if you eat a health roll.))

((Since Shan Mai is between those who need healing, I won't bother adjusting his position on the map. Only Emma needs healing. The only other character with hearts missing is Pidge. Olga and the Jackals are on their own, but you softened the apes enough that they should be alright. The ape near Olga is down to 1 HP after Shan Mai's last attack.))

Emma says, "What a perfect gentleman." She eats the roll.

Pidge says, "Oh… I can't eat such a big hunk of bread, but my golem is hurt." She takes a golden hammer out of the tub and makes repairs.

Final Battle (of Episode Two)

map_14_sewer_by_legendarysidekick-d7hnhfz.png

Shadowy figures scatter underwater and across the walls. One by one, glowing spheres of amber appear. They emerge at once—yellow-eyed beings with squirming quilled bodies! All seem capable of wrapping themselves around a mighty hero like Shan Mai and filling him full of holes. Instead, they sway lazily.

Our heroes have the opportunity to attack…

embed

Muziko's long-held shaken voice becomes pitch perfect. As her voice echoes throughout the tunnel with unprecedented beauty, protective pink bubbles wrap around our heroes.

One creature passes his eye between Jeisera and Fenella. It blinks, as if surprised that the bubbles don't pop against the mere touch of its quills.

Through the translucent pink sheen of my bubble, I stare in awful dread at the yellow-eyed things floating around us. They stare back, but for beings who are mostly eye, it's nigh impossible to tell what they're feeling just by looking. I'm not sure I want to try poking into their minds. But a poke in the eye will do.

I launch myself at one of the creatures, my clenched fists wreathed in Angel Fire.

I wave my golden dancing sword around. I can't see eye to eye with these apparitions. Is this creepy or what?

Emma says to Vincent, "I see you are putting my training to good use." She looks back at the whirlpool, then looks around at the surrounding enemies. Vincent senses her trepidation, though her voice is completely calm.

"How about a little wager? If you can outperform your master in battle, the next lesson is free. If you lose, I choose the skill for your next lesson. A friendly wager might keep our minds off of the impending doom.

"In case you're curious, I rate your attack a 6 out of 10. As for mine…"

embed

Emma dashes straight up, striking the eye directly above her. A cloud of flame billows across the ceiling, but not close enough to ground level to burst the bubbles of her fellow heroes.

((Fire can hit friendly targets. Consider yourself warned.))

As she lands, Emma rates herself. "I'd give it a 9."

Pidge's cannon fires a bottle. Shards of glass burst as the projectile hits the bricks, but the wine does not ignite.
embed

Pidge crinkles her nose. "It smells of vinegar."

Muziko sings the Double Bubble song…
embed

"In case anyone needs another shield," she says.

I try to sing for lightning, but my voice cracks slightly. I don't want to risk it cracking any more than that, so I drop the spell. What did Mother mean, the eleventh eye?

JRFLynn

Mystagogue
Jeisera

Falling through the durned floor wasn't something I had anticipated. Likewise, landing into a river of mucky, murky water. So, when the eye stalks popped out I knew this would get messy. A tidge off guard, I shoot a jay at the nearest one behind me...

Some of our heroes miss, others hit, but when Shan Mai draws his blade he halves three barbed eyes with each strike of his Sanpogiri!

((Shan Mai can use his wakizashi with his next roll of 10+.))

When the eyes strike back, they only manage to pop the bubbles protecting each non-pixie. The eye that tries to swat Mariya from Fenella's shoulder misses the small target, bubble and all. Though Shan Mai's bubble is popped, another forms around him.

As our heroes prepare to strike back at the remaining seven eyes, a much larger one rolls around the corner. Vincent, Fenella, Mariya and Emma notice a shadowy force that seems to struggle to squeeze the large eye through the tunnel. The eye rolls too slowly to do any real damage, or at least that would be the case if not for the whirlpool…

Emma addresses me, and I smile at the thought of a wager. "That sounds fair enough." I watch in admiration as she strikes an eye right above her, engulfing it in an explosion.

The eyes retaliate, but only pop the bubbles around us. Most of them are red now, which makes them look angry as well as injured. But those are the least of our worries. Something else is coming -- something huge. Mariya's thoughts spoke of an eleventh eye, and that's exactly what appears. It moves slowly through the tunnel, and will force us back toward the whirlpool if we let it get close enough.

I don't intend to.

I fly toward the enormous eye of Holst, my Angel Fire more powerful than ever. This ought to do some damage!
