Olga leads the way into Brown's. Mr. Brown and two men lie in pools of blood. Flames make it impossible to search beyond the main dining area.

((Also, Jei has 28 Bloodberries, unless Ireth meant to have Diana give some to Jei before parting. You can do that retroactively if you want. I also forgot to copy-paste the arrow count, which will show up next map.))

I look around, seeing little more than empty chairs at empty tables, fire, and blood. I hurry to the two men who lie in dark, sticky pools, kneeling to check for signs of life. If they're alive and able to respond, I want to know what they know. If they can't speak for whatever reason, I'll read their minds instead.

Shan Mai:
I quickly check the table near the fallen. Then check the area around them, and finally check all the tables to see if anything of interest might be in the area.

Jeisera

Not liking the looks of this, grimacing at the dead, I try to find a better sniping position just in case whatever killed these folks finds us too.

As I kneel by Mr. Brown, his memories flash through my mind. Three-eyed men throw bottles of firewine as patrons run screaming, and cyclapes burst through the kitchen wall. Mr. Brown is badly beaten by a three-eyed waiter, while behind him a lone waitress escapes the fire and chaos. Last of all I see myself from Brown's perspective, upside-down and blurred -- and a shadow crossing the ceiling behind me. As Mr. Brown's thoughts fade to black, I turn away from him, looking up and all around. What was that shadow? Where is it now?

Shan Mai finds three warm rolls, which he can save for when needed.

((They're "Health Rolls," which will stay warm until the episode ends. They're potentially better healing items than the Blood Berries, but you need to roll for health. 1-9 = 1 heart, 10-15 = 2 hearts, 16-19 = 3 hearts, 20 = 5 hearts. If you eat, that's your action for that turn.))

((Targets: #1-6 = heroes, alphabetical; #7-12 = sidekicks))

Vincent soon sees what the shadow from Brown's last view was, only there are eight of these familiar dark creatures. Half of them attack with projectiles.

Ape feces bursts across Reaver's bald head giving him a shit-wig, and chef Shan Mai has a cling-on on his chin and a horrendous taste on his lips. A reeking trail passes over Mariya, proving her small size advantageous. The ape that tried to knock her off Fenella's shoulder bemoans his near miss from a table top. There's a spatter mark where Jeisera once stood, but she somehow slipped away from the group unnoticed. The flames bursting from the entryway—formerly the only exit—make it highly unlikely she abandoned the party.

The apes are positioned to attack, but none reach their targets quickly enough, giving our heroes the advantage…

As the cyclapes attack, I dive for the nearest object I can use as a weapon. Looks like my choices are mostly chairs. I can work with that. Picking one up, I swing it at the nearest ape. Even if I miss and hit a wall, breaking the chair will leave me more debris to work with. Win-win, in my opinion.

Not my best, I admit, but I'll have plenty of opportunity to get into the swing of things. As long as the beasts don't dispatch me first!

Sanpogiri (I think I can only hit two, instead of three)

[What should I expect, trying to attack while shit-faced}.:mask:
Blinded by feces, Shan Mai only smacks two cyclo-apes with the flat of his sword, did he even connect with the second one, or swing right behind it?

Shit? Really? Nothing is worth this. I turn and leave the burning building, headed for a room and a hot bath at the Leaky Quiver.

Noma Galway

Shadow Lord
I breathe deeply. That was a near miss! My voice is still shaking when I try to call the lightning, and I let the note go. I'll try again when I recover.

The Jackals each strike the two closest apes, while Emma takes on three at once. Pidge fires her cannon, blasting the ape on the table. "That's what you get for throwing your poo at a fellow pixie!"

((7 target rolls since the 4 misses no matter what))

Muziko uses her magic to keep Mariya safe, and Fenella as well. Olga grabs the two apes that JJ already struck and slams their heads together, but even her strength is not enough to finish such beasts. In fact, none of the apes fall, though only one remains unscathed.

The cyclapes retaliate. Emma is beaten by all three of the apes that she attacked. Vincent manages to weaken the attack of one as he whacks him over the head with a chair. Each of the Jackals gets bopped on the head, and PJ takes a kick to the face by the ape on the table. The unscathed ape gives the "golem" a whack, but neither of the pixies are harmed.

The Visual

map_14_browns_02_by_legendarysidekick-d7guupq.png

((For those wondering, I made targeting rolls because there are so many enemies on the map.
Fenella = 1, Mariya = 2, Jei = no number…yet, Shan Mai = 3, Vincent = 4,
Emma = 5, JJ = 6, Muziko = 7, Olga = 8, PJ = 9, Pidge = 10

Pidge's health is actually her machine's health, so any attack targeting Muziko or her hits the machine.

Once Jei is discovered, 3 will be her number. She and Mariya are difficult targets to hit, so don't be surprised if, say, a 14 hits one of them but a 19 misses.

PS- I think Vincent looks pretty awesome wielding a broken chair in this mess!))

I swing my makeshift weapon at the nearest cyclape again, hoping this attack will be stronger.

Okay, maybe not. Third time's the charm, perhaps?

((Emma, JJ, Muziko, Olga, PJ, Pidge))

Emma weakly kicks an ape in the shin. JJ pummels one of the apes, and Olga finishes him off. PJ tries to yank the tablecloth out from under the ape, but the ape maintains his footing while PJ holds torn fabric in his hands.

Muziko sings a very ugly note, and she looks proud as she holds it. Smoke billowing from Pidge's cannon does not instill pride in the sugarplum. "Awwww," she moans. "A dud."

((I'll give Noma and Ruby another day, then I'll roll for the bad guys tomorrow.))
