Shan Mai
Goes up the ladder ((am I 1R?)

(not sure if Frogman has gun or Captain)
Cleaver for the captain.
I hurl a cleaver at the gun man, it felt weird when I released it as if something was going to happen...

(Tree chopper)

"A huge frog is waiting for us upstairs in a room full of bodies, alongside a man in a feathered hat who seems to be the captain. He has a gun pointed at the bulkhead

The pirate that Mariya described cannot be seen. There are three portside cannons facing the sea, a stack of cannon balls, and a huge frog with thick arms. (Quote from a PM LS sent me)

I make it up the ladder, but don't see the pirate Vincent described, only the huge frog and three charred corpses.

((PM sent to SeverinR; will post new map when I get home, since PJ and Finella can't reach the enemy just yet...))

"
The shot came from the stack of cannon balls."
Judging his ability and his resources, the meat clever, he hurls it at the visible target.
His jaw drops open as the clever is in flight.

As the two samurai ascend, both take in the scene. Mariya is trying her best to remain calm and sing her wind song, despite almost getting shot. Though the shooter's aim was true, he didn't know which corpse hid the source of the voice. The frog the the right of the ladder is missing a head, but Mariya is hidden by the corpse to the left.

Reaver wastes no time. He rushes the large frog, just as the big guy's eye is on the tiny muse. Shan Mai takes out his cleaver, ready to back up his fellow samurai. Only, Diana is too swift—she dashes from the ladder and takes a mighty swing!

As she strikes, Shan Mai whips his cleaver toward the only visible target and…

((The player turn isn't over yet. Still waiting for a reply from Reaver to confirm damage. In addition, PJ and Finella can choose their position, though they are limited to 2 squares from the ladder. Mariya can roll to cast her spell.))

As my comrades join the fray, so do I -- but from a safe distance. I pick up a cannonball with telekinesis, sending it flying toward the burly frog. Perhaps I'll be lucky enough to cave its skull in, if the others haven't already finished it off. Diana's blow is especially impressive!

Mine... doesn't seem as much.

…as he throws he sees Diana's mighty swing take the head off the large frog! What he hits instead are invisible targets—three of them. Each explodes into a bloody mass!

And, Vincent cracks the floor when he makes a cannon ball roll off of the stack with his mind.

As for Mariya…

((Player turn is still going.…))

I keep singing, hoping to affect the captain, who I can't see, but I know where he is. I'm definitely shaken by the gunshot, but he didn't hit me.

…though no one else gets a good look at him.

((No more players can attack this turn, but I'll wait a bit so people can react.

@Phil and Ruby, you can move onto the map, but only 2 spaces left of the ladder. If you're particular about where I place your characters, please let me know where you want them.))

Diana

There is far too much blood on the deck to have come from the single frog I beheaded. Shan Mai's cleaver revealed at least three hidden enemies, and who knows how many more are lurking? I move around the corpses toward the hole in the wall, trusting Vincent and the others to watch my back.

Vincent

I follow Diana and Reaver toward the hole, looking around as I cross the deck for what else might decide to show itself, or attack without showing itself.

((Half of them rolled 19s and 20s… sorry!))

Diana ♥♥ (enemy damage reduced) [6] [8]
Fenella ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ [20]
Mariya ♥♥
Pale Jackal ♥♥♥♥♥ [16]
Reaver ♥♥♥♥ (damage increased) [19] [14]
Shan Mai ♥♥♥♥ (grappling power increased) [19] [19]
Vincent ♥♥ (offense increased) [20] [8]

Chunks of dead frogs fall from the air as Shan Mai's cleaver whirls overboard. Blood sprays from Diana's decapitated foe. When Mariya's wind spell sends the captain through a wall, some drops of blood hang in mid air. It becomes clear that unseen enemies have been revealed.

Reaver dashes forward. Diana and Vincent follow. But just as they start to move, the moon turns red as blood. At first all the heroes see is several pairs of eyes. Then come the frenzied attacks.

Diana easily deflects the first attack, but the second attacker slashes her while her shield is occupied. Her armor is pierced, but for some reason, her skin is not cut. She feels as if she were struck by a blunt object. (Damage reduced.)

Fenella is stabbed in the back, while Reaver is struck by two spears at once. Shan Mai is hit by two of the red-eyes that were doused with blood. PJ feels a deep slash across his leaning arm.

Vincent is takes a direct hit from an enemy, but he is spared by his shield. Another frog attacks Vincent as well, but his attack is weak as he is forced to grab hold of the ladder to avoid dropping to the floor below.

Only tiny Mariya comes out of this attack unscathed. She sees four toads leap onto the side of the ship. Two are badly burned, most likely from lightning. One of the burnt toads shouts, "Light 'em up!" The other toadies hold torches and stand by cannons.

The Laughing Hyena dusts himself off then loads his Hand Cannon.

"Welcome aboard!" he says. He seems to find the chaos before him highly amusing…

Out of nowhere, we're surrounded. An enemy lunges at me, and if not for the green aura, I would have been grievously wounded. The aura deflects the blow, but flickers and dies. The next attack hits, but thankfully it's a weak one.

Luckily, even unarmed, I'm not completely defenseless. And I don't have to be unarmed for much longer. I reach out with my magic to pull Shan Mai's katana from its sheath.

((Then again, maybe not...))

Diana

Two red-eyed frogs attack me in unison. I deflect one blow with my shield, but the second slashes across my armor. I'm left winded, but not bleeding. Adrenaline courses through me as I raise my sword and strike back at the frog directly in front of me.

((Well, I'm glad *someone* is doing well!))

Fenella: I think I am injured but I am going to get my revenge! I lift my sword ready to fight.

Maybe my muse knows a cure for the wound, or I can drink some of the potion.

((@SeverinR, use whatever blade you want. Vincent's mentalist skill allows him to know which blade Shan Mai intends to draw. If Shan Mai goes for his katana, Vincent will unsheathe one of his cleavers instead.

@Ireth, an 8 will pick up something that light from that short distance, even with your roll of 8. The 8 also acts as your hit roll, and movement is a factor. Short version: Vincent can take a swing at the enemy as if rolling an 8 with a weapon.))

I am badly injured but by the grace of Lady Death and The Warrior, I will fight until my last breath! I slash at the bipedal hypnotoad standing directly in front of me.

Recovering from the shock of the tree chopper and the enemy it destroyed, spears sink into his side, enough to shock him back to reality. Summoning up strength, thought severely wounded, Shan Mai quick draws the katana and strikes the closest one that struck him.

As I strike I realize my other clever is being tugged at by unseen forces. I do a quick side kick at the invisible enemy, not expecting to do damage just checking to see if there is an invisible foe there.
[not sure if this is doable, since it isn't an attack, just a quick feeler I thought I'd try]
