I've toyed with pronouncing it ta-liss, but the diminutive works less well (calling her "liss"), so the long e wins.

All of my characters have meaningful names, but in my books it's justified--nothing ever happens by chance, and everything is connected by fate lines. My current character just has a title instead of a name, really:
Chibi Tenshi [Japanese for little angel]
