First, look through the sticky thread on how to create a character, as well as the threads on character classes, races, gods, magic, etc. Once you have a character profile written up, PM it to Steerpike for approval.

Yeah, just make a character according to the rules posted in the sticky threads. If you have questions post them here, and then send me the character via PM.

If you're "stuck" with lawful good, that may not necessarily change how you RP your idea of a neutral good character.

To put that another way, if you're going to play the honorable type, that could work with almost any degree of lawful and good. As long as you don't treat innocents as if they're expendable (not good) and avoid dishonorable tactics such as feigning a truce to gain advantage (not lawful), in my opinion you're playing the LG alignment right.

I would think you could even question an existing law (like "witch burning") if you were convinced the law is, in fact, evil.

Ok, thanks also what are the differences between long and short bow? And is there a type of one and a half-handed sword for when I am wanting to use/not use a shield.

You can view all of the equipment here. Paladins are rich (240g), so you may as well buy the best.

I think longbow makes more sense. 1d8 damage > 1d6. The composite bow has slightly better reach than the regular longbow.

I believe the bastard sword is what you're looking for. Damage is d10, making it the strongest one-hander. Two-handed swords inflict 2d6 while other two-handed weapons inflict 1d12. Basically, it's a little more damaging to use a two-handed sword, or you go bastard-and-shield and trade some damage for armor.

For an elf, it's worth giving up damage for accuracy with a longsword. For a human, bastard-and-shield or two-handed sword are a fighter-type's best options. For shields, I'm not sure what the deal is. Large shield is +2 armor, but the buckler is +1 for twice the price. I THINK shields only add defense to the first hit while the buckler adds defense to all hits. Personally, I'd take the large shield for +2. It'll be very rare that you get hit more than once a turn AND the 1 AC is the difference between being hit and not.

MY SUGGESTION: longbow, bastard sword, large shield, scale mail… you still have 73 gold for supplies. 48 if you buy the composite longbow.

In addition, there's a barbarian player (Bressel) who has a two-handed axe. When my barbarian character (Baldhart) became a monk, she vowed to give up weapons, so now Bressel has her two-handed sword and the axe. If you ever decide you want a two-hander, there's a possibility you can borrow the axe from him… y'know, after earning the barbarian's trust in-game.

The Doc isn't urgent (I don't think). As long as SP knows what you're items are, you're one step closer to getting in-game.

But the Google Doc is definitely something you'll want for the long run.

Mine is actually nicely organized in columns so all that info fits on one page. Forum format kills my pretty columns. Anyway, you can use Baldhart's Doc as a possible way to organize stuff. She's a monk, so for her it makes sense to display movement and attack die (both of which progress as she levels). Your movement will always be 30', assuming you're not a halfling, and your attack die is based on your weapon of choice. (d10 sword / d8 bow?)

I think SP travels during the holidays, so I'm not surprised… though after looking at Act I, I can see why you would be. 22 posts on New Year's Eve two years ago! I guess none of us were invited to parties that year.

Hey, SP (or anyone else who knows C&C rules)…

Philster asked for some advice on character creation. One thing I'm unsure of: is a STR bonus required if the character wants to use a bastard sword and large shield?
