@LS: Oops. FYI, I did recently recommend this RPG to a new online friend I made who expressed an interest when I mentioned it. I'm not sure how how serious her interest is as I've not yet gotten a response back from her about it, but I do want to at least mention to you that I made a plug.

No need to say "oops."

If anyone expresses interest before I start looking for players, I'll have them enter the game right away. Even here in the underworld—there's more than one way I could make that work.

If she's a Mythic Scribes member, she's free to PM me and create a character.

She isn't - but I told her about the site and told her she'd have to become a member to join us.

@LS: If my friend decides to join and needs to create a character, do remember you've hidden the Our Heroines and Classes threads.

Also, did Kell lose her charm animals spell? It just now occurred to me she could send a message to Zenobia in Scheria Bay and ask her to pack up Niobe's journals and send them to Hades (or to someplace where they can be delivered to Hades). But if she can't cast that spell anymore, I suppose some alternate way of sending a message might work. Thoughts?

I actually worked on all the attack cards (boring text table). One way or another, nymphs will have an ability to summon animals for multiple purposes. It'll probably be a starting level ability (giving nymphs two Lv.1 abilities to choose from).

You won't end up losing any abilities. I can't promise heaven's arrow will be the same, BUT I do like the idea of letting players basically invent spells. So the elements might just have different effects, and I only need 4 attack cards for elemental spells.

As for your friend...

You're welcome.

And if it's not obvious, just four heroines now instead of six. The Amazon and Iron Maiden are both strong. The Amazon and Fighting Nun both should be good at fighting. So... you really just need the Amazon.

In ch.5, I actually was using Amazon stats for the Iron Maidens. (except Penni)

Finally had time to draw at work. Here's a WIP for the nymph. She has a unicorn!

Awesome! I love the unicorn! Will the unicorns also have alternate forms they can shift into like Helix does?

Not on an official capacity. I'll probably make it more generic—the way a nymph can call upon beasts to have a mount or messenger bird or little animal servants like Cinderella had. So a nymph could have a unicorn, a dolphin, a panther... or Helix.

Speaking of Helix, maybe Blonde Sonja should really end up with the unicorn she's pictured with—a possible love interest for Helix? She actually looks like a snob.

I'll think of a description later. The nymph will start with a choice of "Natural Beauty" or "Beauty and the Beasts" at Lv.1

Kell currently has both. She can magically make clothing when casting earth/water magic, and for the card game, the "nymph effect" is somehow connected to that. (For the card game, that flower dress will come with the nymph effect—which will be called "allure" or "charm" or something.)

Sigrlinn has the ability to make animal skins that give her beast abilities, which is something a Lv.2 Huntress can opt to have. Basically, based on the card game you're both at Lv.2.

I know! Pink Girl Unicorn could show up and Helix could be smitten because she's kinda his level, but she could be a total snob and want nothing to do with him - not for a while, anyway. Maybe he could save her bacon or something to get her to come off off her high horse (ooh, ooh! Pun!)

^That's a possibility.

Regarding the text for the cards, I might be going back to my webcomic roots. I'll sit on the look before I commit, but readability is important so… maybe this works?

The black and white borders are NOT part of the card, but are guidelines for me. Black = bleed area (since the printer won't align perfectly, but should be well within 1/4"); inside white - safe zone, meaning text shouldn't go on the white part even though that's meant to be part of the actual card.

I haven't forgotten that I owe a GM reply. I'll get to that, more likely tomorrow than today. If we're pretty much done with Alala, we might get to the meeting with Apollo. After that, the River Styx will lead to Hesperides, which currently seems the preferred route.

The comic-booky text is working for me. I'll get a screenshot of the fairy's Lv.1 card--renamed "Actual Size", since the card displays her actual size. The ruler I drew really marks 3" from the 3 to the bottom line. The fairy is about 7cm tall, or 2.75", or 1/10000th the size (in volume) of a 5'0" woman.

Here's where I might go with the comic-bookish design. Colored boxes (Huntress/Amazon/Nymph/Fairy) that mention character and level somewhere near the ability name, and under the info, another colored box that mentions any correlating attack cards.

Attack cards will likely have a higher text:art ratio. So rather than have GMs guess how fairy dust should work, I'll have two Fairy Dust cards (one for positive energy, the other for negative). The "Fairy Dust +" card would have the basic effects of positively-charged Bronze fairy dust, and the effects of Yellow, Orange, Pink and Purple dust would be listed, but with the "Mood Wings" ability as a requirement.

Anyway, here's the "Actual Size" card with the green text boxes.

Here's how the comic-bookish text is organized:

fairy_update_by_legendarysidekick-dazt4o7.png

amazon___nymph_update_by_legendarysidekick-dazt4u2.png

EDIT - In case you haven't yet guessed...

Fairy: tan background for Lv.1, yellow background for Lv.2-4; green text boxes
Amazon: red background; blue text boxes
Nymph: lt.blue background for Lv.1-4, dk.blue background for Lv.2-4; yellow text boxes
Huntress: green background; red text boxes

I want color themes to help people match the cards visually.

At Lv.1, the Nymph can choose from two abilities that both have the word "Beauty" in the name. The other will be "Natural Beauty," which I sketched today. (If I stick to the plan, it's a long flowing gown made of water.)

The Fairy can't not be tiny, so she has only one Lv.1 ability card, but she still gets to choose which fairy dust card she starts with. Basically, there's always a choice when you level.

Sorry for the slowness... it's a combination of things.

1) School vacation,
2) Behind-the-scenes stuff.

In the case of the latter, I'm working out a way to do attack cards so it won't take forever to make them all.

The attack cards will be...

6 Special Arrows (H/F --that's lazy for Huntress/Fairy)
5 Weapons (A/H/N) + "Uvula Punch" (A/F)
6 Magical Components
- Earth (N/H)
- Air (F/H)
- Water (N/A)
- Fire (F/A)
- Beast (H/A)
- Transformation (N/F)

Magic can be cast by certain heroines, or anyone can combine any component with a weapon or arrow.
(Hammer + Earth = Mile High Club)
Without magic, all weapons and arrows are the same.

Huntress-only x3 (basics, traps, knife)
Amazon-only x2 (basics, hurling/power)
Nymph-only x5 (basics, mount, pets, staff, dress)
Fairy-only x4 (basics, mount, dust: positive, negative emotions)

Vehicles x4 (land, sea, air, giant robot)

@tbgg: I don't see any mention of Daedalus being among the group. I assumed we'd meet up with him at some point on the way to see Apollo. Maybe double-check with LS?

This is LS' post from much earlier in the chapter. I don't recall Daedalus leaving, so I was assuming he'd still be with Icarus.

Hades replies, "I would think the weather would prove to be an interesting topic, and there is nothing trivial about it at all. But if you seek information on other matters, such as how the Departed ended up here--at a young age, in the cases of those around us--all I ask is that you strike up a conversation. Make them want to talk, not just interrogate them.

"But seeing how you have made it apparent you have no interest in these people, I suspect that when they tell you what plans death has taken from them, what loved ones were separated from them, their stories will matter to you as much as the weather you take for granted."

Hades then leads on as requested. A harpy swoops by and waves to Icarus. Behind her is a flying man. The harpy points down, and the man waves to her before landing. Icarus runs to him. "Dad!" And father and son embrace.

Kell recognizes this man--the same man who stabbed Heph, fought her, and was struck down by her blade.

Hades senses Kell recognizes the man, or perhaps he knows she killed him. In any case, he says to both of you (and Bob), "Given your history, and that Daedalus knows his son is not confined here, I will introduce the three of you as guests. I also ask for decorum. The man lost his battle and lost his life. He may have put himself in that position, but let him be the one to bring it up. Or his son... I cannot tell a child what topics are taboo in a conversation with his own father."

Hades steps aside, allowing you and Bob to speak to Daedalus.

Bob says, "To be honest, I was hoping to talk to those amazons and soldiers."

Hades nods, and it turns out you hadn't walked very far when the harpy led Icarus' father to him. Bob strikes up a conversation with the four unlikely (apparent) friends, leaving the two of you with Hades, who is, at the moment, dead-silent.

((He will introduce anyone who chooses to talk to Daedalus.))
